A small town column reports two junk men were arrested for reckless driving and fined by J. P. Rhodes. Flora McClain recovered at home after an April 19 operation at Methodist hospital. Mrs. Sam Addison, from south of town, returned home from Henry County hospital in New Castle and is improving. Rev. Charles Winslow had a major operation at Methodist on April 19 and is doing as well as can be expected. Mrs. Robert Blessinger underwent appendicitis surgery on April 20 at Henry County hospital and was driven home to Greenfield Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Blessinger formerly lived in Carthage.
Robert Earl White, son of Mr. and Mrs. John White, completed the eighth grade last Thursday night with a perfect attendance record.
A 1941 42 class note from Carthage thanks the community for making a Washington trip possible. The message praises the support and states everyone is in fine physical condition and having a great time. It ends with regards.

Clarence Thurston and Chas Adams of Shelbyville were arrested by Marshal Newby after a wild town drive. At a town hall hearing before Justice Harry Rhodes both pled guilty to reckless driving and DUI. Rhodes fined them a total of 26 90 and revoked their licenses.
Jesse H. Dyer, 64, died Saturday afternoon at Major hospital in Shelbyville after a four week illness. He was a member of the United Brethren church of Gwynneville. Survivors include two daughters Edith Schaeffer Morristown and Marlie Wooten Indianapolis, two sons Roy Indianapolis and Harold Gwynneville, three grandchildren, two brothers Alfred Dyer near Carthage and Thomas Dyer near Arlington, and one sister Mrs George Nigh Gwynneville. Funeral was Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at L V Hauk funeral home Morristown with Rev Roy Laswell officiating, burial Hanover cemetery.
Lifeguards will go on duty at state park pools and bathing beaches on May 30, announced by Charles A. DeTurk, director of the Division of State Parks. Pools at Brown County and McCormick's Creek. beaches at Indiana Dunes, Pokagon, Shakamak, and Spring Mill. This marks the first season of beach and bathhouse use at Spring Mill. Lifeguards must meet Red Cross qualifications.
Friends in Carthage heard Dr J R Furbay of Marion speak on WLW at 1 30 Sunday afternoon during the program Church by the Side of the Road. Dr Furbay was a former Friends minister in Carthage.
Mrs A J Carr and Ada Chappell visited Muncie on Wednesday as Ada Chappell enrolled at Ball State College.
Rev. Lawrence Maines, minister of Carthage East Street Christian church, will transfer to a new pastorate in Indiana Pennsylvania. He arrived July 15 1940 succeeding Rev. Wayne Newcum and leaves around June 1. Indiana Pa is about 55 miles northeast of Pittsburgh and a successor has not yet been appointed.
A large April crowd attended the Kappa Kappa Sigma spring charity dance in Carthage Auditorium. Norman Brown and his Richmond orchestra provided music while a floor show featured Kay Hadley Unit Show Vocal Trio Acrobatic acts and a Rainbow Ballet. Proceeds fund sorority charity work.
Miss Mabel DeMoss will enter Central Normal College at Danville on Monday May 5 and will graduate June 13 from a four year course. Miss Alta Carfield will also enter the mid spring term at Central Normal.
Boy Scout Troop 14 with Scoutmaster John DeSchipper announced plans to attend the annual circus at Richmond Indiana Civic Hall on Saturday May 3 at 730 pm. Sponsored by Whitewater Valley Council the show aims to display Scouting goals educate parents and highlight youth programs with events from Ellis' Boys' Band to First Aid and Cub activities featuring over 1200 Scouts Cubs and leaders.
Thousands of anglers greeted dawn as Indiana opens trout season with streams stocked in Porter, Lake, St. Joseph, Elkhart, and sixteen counties. Division of Fish and Game plants about a half million fingerling trout annually, creating a sport over several hundred miles of streams. The season runs until September 1 with licenses checked by conservation officers.
Carthage merchants announce free talking pictures for residents this summer. Shows run each Saturday at 8:00 p m with last year's big crowds hoped to return. Attendees are urged to visit town, enjoy the films, and shop locally at area stores.
Mrs John Walters of Muncie dies Tuesday morning at Randolph County hospital Winchester from complications after thyroid surgery. Funeral services set for Thursday at 9:30 am at Meek funeral home Muncie with burial in Niles Michigan. Survived by husband son and grandson.
Edward Welsh died in Richmond state hospital Saturday afternoon after an illness of several years. Born in Jonesboro Indiana on June 23 1911 he was the son of Raymond and Mae Welsh and had lived in Carthage since 1913. Funeral services were held at Thompson funeral home at 10 30 a m with Rev Lawrence Maines of the East Street Christian church in charge. Burial was in Town cemetery.
Juanita Winfield a Carthage sophomore at Butler University will be entertained at a spread hosted by Theta Sigma Phi the national honorary journalism sorority on Thursday in the Student Lounge of Arthur Jordan Memorial hall Miss Winfield a Kappa Kappa Gamma member is majoring in journalism and is the daughter of Mr and Mrs A W Winfield of Carthage Indiana
