Young People Furnish Evening Entertainment at Center Church

Four Carthage youths presented the program at the Center Christian Church Young People Meeting Sunday night. Pamela Hunt, Sharon Todd, and Jeannine Terhune performed two saxophone numbers with Jimmy Ellis trumpet solos accompanied by Hunt. Former Pastor Homer Biddlecum to Speak at Friends Meeting

Homer Biddlecum, a former pastor, will speak at the 10:30 a.m. worship service of the Charlottes ville Friends Meeting on Sunday March 31. A basket dinner follows at noon with informal visiting and greeting of old friends. Former friends and acquaintances are welcome.

Local minister and family suffer fatal crash

Rev Rex Krieg and his wife were returning from church when their car was struck by another near Warren. Mrs Carrie Foust died in the crash. Bert Krieg and Mrs Krieg were hospitalized with head injuries. Rev Krieg later moved to Parkview Hospital with a brain concussion. His father remained in critical condition while his mother was set for release. Three men in the other car were hospitalized with injuries.

Carthage High Enters Ninth Annual EC Volleyball and Table Tennis Tourney

Carthage High School enters both volleyball and table tennis at the Ninth Annual East Central Conference event to be held Friday night at Richmond on Earlham College campus. First round volleyball pits Carthage against Morton Memorial. table tennis also features Morton Memorial in the opening round. Other first round matches include Liberty versus Morristown, Milroy versus Spiceland, and Union City versus Centerville. Matches are best two of three games to 21 points and begin at 6 30 p m on Friday March 29.

Carthage Students to Attend Purdue High School Day

Four Carthage High School students Larry Little James Neal Charles Elmore and James Mosier will travel to Purdue University next Saturday March 30 for the High School Day. The University in cooperation with Indiana High School Principals and deans and counselors for boys and girls sponsors the event to aid upperclassmen in planning advanced education. Carthage Teen Guilty Of Reckless Driving In Greenfield

Gary D. Smith 18 of Carthage was found guilty in Greenfield city court on a reckless driving charge after a Friday hearing before Mayor James L. Allen. A $5 fine plus costs was imposed. Smith, arrested by State Trooper Carroll Mohr on April 1 of last year for a fast turn at North and Pennsylvania streets, faced a fourth traffic arrest in less than three years, triggering potential license suspension under Indiana points.

Rush County farmers bought most of 85 pure bred Hampshire hogs sold Monday at the Donald Gray Hog Sale at the Rush County Fairgrounds. Hogs from grand championship bloodlines at Indiana Illinois Ohio and Kentucky State Fairs did well with buyers from North and Ohio. Top boar brought 210 dollars and top gilt 185 dollars. average per hog was 85 dollars.

Carthage Pupils Place in Regional Latin Contest

Frank Clark and Ronald Tuttle of Carthage High School placed second and fourth respectively in Division I at the regional Latin contest in Rushville. Papers were sent to Indiana University to rank Rushville scores with other regions, determining who advances to the Bloomington state finals on April 27.

Rush County 4 H and FFA Poultry Judging Contest Results

The Rush County 4 H and FFA Poultry Judging Contest was held Saturday March 23 at Milroy. First place Rushville team coached by Harold Clifton Jr led with John Harvell scoring 749 points and teammates Darr ell Hawkins John Kirkpatrick and David Percer. Milroy placed second coached by Clyde Bond with Harold Hineman Tom Lanter Jack Willey and John Gasser. Arlington ranked third coached by Paul Potts with Richard James Philip Hester Max Maple and Jimmy Emmons. Lions Club Sponsors Carthage Circus and Calendar Project

The Carthage Lions Club approved two major projects at the Monday meeting. An anniversary calendar collecting birthdays and anniversaries will be published later in 1958. The club also signed a contract with the George W. Cole Circus to perform in Carthage on Monday May 6 1957 with advance ticket sales to follow. The nominating committee presented two officer slate and elections will be held next meeting.

A flurry of Sunday and weekend visits saw numerous families hosting relatives and friends from nearby towns. Guests traveled from Indianapolis Greenfield Noblesville Crawfordsville and Dayton for dinners and gatherings with Beck Graf McManus Parsons and other area residents.
