Jesse Henley, now living with his daughter Mrs Frances Robinson in Richmond, recently marked another anniversary. He noted that he was celebrating the 41st anniversary of his 50th birthday.
Tellico Plains Tennessee mission worker Howard Yates will be guest speaker at Carthage Friends this Sunday morning March 31. All are invited to hear Mr. Yates and share fellowship in the worship service.
The Federated Clubs of Rush County will hold an all day county convention at the Carthage Christian Church on Friday. The Carthage Women's Literary Circle will be hostesses for the event.
Mr and Mrs Howard Henley arrived home Sunday after a five week vacation in Florida and the Caribbean. They visited St Petersburg Ft Myers and Miami with a ten day Caribbean cruise including stops at Haiti the Dominican Republic Curaçao and Jamaica.
Mrs. Rachel King of Carthage and Katherine Hahn district president of VFW and Shirley Jackson of Knightstown attended the VFW district meeting in Muncie Sunday.
Mrs Harley Dobson, who has resided with Mrs Anna Miller for weeks following an accident, will return to her Carthage home and property at the Carthage Hotel today Thursday.
A public installation for the new officers of the Order of the Eastern Star will be held this Friday March 29 at the Masonic Hall in Carthage Edna Nell Kennedy will be installed as Worthy Matron and Roy Stanley as Worthy Patron.
Pvt Max Robertson of the U S Marines reports his participation in the Luzon Beach tests at Dingalan Bay Philippines. Thousands of Marines in full battle gear conducted a major amphibious training exercise, testing American mobility in wartime conditions.
Four Carthage youths presented the program at the Center Christian Church Young People Meeting Sunday night. Pamela Hunt, Sharon Todd, and Jeannine Terhune performed two saxophone numbers with Jimmy Ellis trumpet solos accompanied by Hunt. Mrs. Frances Terhune Ruth Hunt and Katherine Ellis also attended with the group.
Homer Biddlecum, a former pastor, will speak at the 10:30 a.m. worship service of the Charlottes ville Friends Meeting on Sunday March 31. A basket dinner follows at noon with informal visiting and greeting of old friends. Former friends and acquaintances are welcome.
Rev Rex Krieg and his wife were returning from church when their car was struck by another near Warren. Mrs Carrie Foust died in the crash. Bert Krieg and Mrs Krieg were hospitalized with head injuries. Rev Krieg later moved to Parkview Hospital with a brain concussion. His father remained in critical condition while his mother was set for release. Three men in the other car were hospitalized with injuries.
Carthage High School enters both volleyball and table tennis at the Ninth Annual East Central Conference event to be held Friday night at Richmond on Earlham College campus. First round volleyball pits Carthage against Morton Memorial. table tennis also features Morton Memorial in the opening round. Other first round matches include Liberty versus Morristown, Milroy versus Spiceland, and Union City versus Centerville. Matches are best two of three games to 21 points and begin at 6 30 p m on Friday March 29.
Mrs. Bertha Beck and Mrs. Norma McKain made official visits to Eaton and Richmond units. Several Circle meetings, entertainments, and dinners hosted by local families are listed, including Fidelity Class at Markleville R. R. and a turkey dinner for OES officers. Various Sunday visits and kinship gatherings are noted across Rush County communities.
Carthage High School juniors and seniors toured Bakulah Air Force Base in Columbus Indiana on March 13. Cadet demonstrations covered the C-119 Flying Boxcar aircraft, parachute packing, firefighting equipment, and pilot training.
Indianapolis Indiana May 1 2 Methodist laymen and ministers 200 leaders will meet at Roberts Park Methodist Church to discuss church strategy and responsibilities amid desegregation. Bishops Richard C Raimes and Matthew W Clair have invited delegates to foster understanding between Negro and white branches of the denomination.
The Indiana Department of Conservation reports ongoing shipments from Jasper-Pulaski Nursery with Red Pine White Pine Virginia Pine Jack Pine and Black Locust still in stock for spring planting. Free seedlings are available to farms five acres or larger while supplies last and orders must be placed by April 1.

Rush County Share-The-Fun Festival at Gra ham Annex Auditorium Rushville saw Miss Pamela Hunt of Ripley Township Needletwisters 4-H Club win first place in Curtain Acts. Second went to Philip Hester Po sey Township. Group Acts saw Anderson Township win and Clover Club Rushville add second. District festival April 3 at Parkway School Cambridge City.
Four Carthage High School students Larry Little James Neal Charles Elmore and James Mosier will travel to Purdue University next Saturday March 30 for the High School Day. The University in cooperation with Indiana High School Principals and deans and counselors for boys and girls sponsors the event to aid upperclassmen in planning advanced education. The program supports the high school counseling initiative.
Gary D. Smith 18 of Carthage was found guilty in Greenfield city court on a reckless driving charge after a Friday hearing before Mayor James L. Allen. A $5 fine plus costs was imposed. Smith, arrested by State Trooper Carroll Mohr on April 1 of last year for a fast turn at North and Pennsylvania streets, faced a fourth traffic arrest in less than three years, triggering potential license suspension under Indiana points.
Russell Leisure and five other Indiana Tractor Pulling Association members met with the State Fair Executive Board in the Administration Building at the Indianapolis State Fair on Monday to discuss plans for the upcoming Third Annual State Fair Tractor Pulling Contest.

The Eleventh Annual Achievement Program at Mays School Auditorium honored 4-H and Home Demonstration winners from Rush County and state and international winners. Music by the Mays School under Frances Sims and Alta Carr, with Mrs. Lowell Innis Sr. named outstanding Rush County leader and the achievement booklet dedicated to her.
Rush County farmers bought most of 85 pure bred Hampshire hogs sold Monday at the Donald Gray Hog Sale at the Rush County Fairgrounds. Hogs from grand championship bloodlines at Indiana Illinois Ohio and Kentucky State Fairs did well with buyers from North and Ohio. Top boar brought 210 dollars and top gilt 185 dollars. average per hog was 85 dollars.

T Sgt Wayne Denney says veterans from any service who reenlist in the Air Force may choose their base. Those returning from overseas within two years may select any US base. longer returns have options in 20 states. Eligible enlistees may keep or adjust grade under certain conditions. Information available at Rushville and Carthage post offices Mondays.
Frank Clark and Ronald Tuttle of Carthage High School placed second and fourth respectively in Division I at the regional Latin contest in Rushville. Papers were sent to Indiana University to rank Rushville scores with other regions, determining who advances to the Bloomington state finals on April 27.
The Rush County 4 H and FFA Poultry Judging Contest was held Saturday March 23 at Milroy. First place Rushville team coached by Harold Clifton Jr led with John Harvell scoring 749 points and teammates Darr ell Hawkins John Kirkpatrick and David Percer. Milroy placed second coached by Clyde Bond with Harold Hineman Tom Lanter Jack Willey and John Gasser. Arlington ranked third coached by Paul Potts with Richard James Philip Hester Max Maple and Jimmy Emmons. Carthage finished fourth with Richard Jackson Joe Foust Clyde Mahan and Walter Mahan totaling 2030 points.
Mrs Forrest Moore entertained guests at a dessert bridge gathering hosted by Mrs Irl Ward in Rusfiville on Tuesday. The social group included Mrs Guy Ewing and Bill Ewing with their children and friends.
The Carthage Lions Club approved two major projects at the Monday meeting. An anniversary calendar collecting birthdays and anniversaries will be published later in 1958. The club also signed a contract with the George W. Cole Circus to perform in Carthage on Monday May 6 1957 with advance ticket sales to follow. The nominating committee presented two officer slate and elections will be held next meeting.
A flurry of Sunday and weekend visits saw numerous families hosting relatives and friends from nearby towns. Guests traveled from Indianapolis Greenfield Noblesville Crawfordsville and Dayton for dinners and gatherings with Beck Graf McManus Parsons and other area residents.
