Bill Robertson son of Mr and Mrs Roy Robertson earned a letter sweater for four years as a Carthage Raiders senior and student manager. The award was presented by Mr Hardin at the P T A banquet last Wednesday night after an earlier oversight.
Mrs. Hubert Hill suffered a stroke Tuesday morning at her home and had not regained consciousness as of Thursday.
Miss Shelby Logan and Miss Karen Magee had tonsillectomy operations Tuesday at Rush Memorial Hospital.
James W. Miller 86 of Knights Town died Tuesday night in the Veterans Hospital Indianapolis. He was father of James J. Miller of Carthage. The obituary notes his prior residence and family ties.
Justice of the Peace Lon Mc Corkle united Nancy Brumfield age 20 of Falmouth and Benjamin Sanders age 29 of Carthage in a Saturday night ceremony at 8 p m Jessie Thompson and her daughter Donna Jean of Knightstown accompanied the couple
Miss Patty Bailey sister of Mrs. Maurice Brooks of Carthage entered St Johns Hospital in Anderson Indiana on Sunday and underwent an operation Monday Her condition is reported as satisfactory and she is expected to return home later this week Her room number is 323 at St Johns Hospital Anderson Indiana
Mr and Mrs John Stevens and their children reside at the Frieda Chappell home on Carthage R R 1. Mrs Lettie Sparks purchased the Stevens home and plans to move there soon with her sons.
A roving group of dogs knocked down Miss Berniece Branson last Monday and caused minor injuries. The incident involved several dogs wandering in the area. local responders arrived but no severe harm was reported.
The Carthage School Band joined with four other bands Arlington New Salem Morton and Milroy in a county wide musical gram last Friday night at Memorial gymnasium in Rushville. About 230 musicians performed under the direction of Nile Hovey from Butler University to a large crowd with generous applause and praise.
The Camera Club gathered at the Community Center for an enjoyable evening. Members shared old photos including one by Oran Henley showing East Main Street before the 1921 fire and Henley corner remodeling. a brief business session was led by President Hubert Hunt. hostesses were Miss Berniece Branson and Mesdames Iva Cook and Jessie McGeorge.
The Ripley Township Conservation Club held its regular meeting last Thursday and scheduled a Ham Shoot for Sunday April 14 1957.
Tenth District Rep Ralph Harvey said the Cincinnati government real estate office will award a contract to Don Klein of Greenfield for building a Fortville post office. Klein is also building a post office in New Palestine. Fortville long lobbied since 1950 or earlier, holding top district priority though delays occurred before this outcome.
Exiled Russian minister Rev. Peter Voronof will speak at the Carthage Church of the Nazarene Friday March 22 at 7 30 p.m. He warns Communists plan world conquest by 1978 and will claim North America faces invasion from the north with 32 divisions near Alaska. He argues Communism is a godless religion seeking to dominate Asia and the world and cites a 50 million death list.
Lafayette Ind March 20 two Rush County students earned the Distinguished Rating at Purdue University for the first semester 1956 57 under a new higher minimum index. Ninety students hit the perfect six while 588 reached 5.5 to 5.9. 678 total won honors. Robert Spuller Rushville R1 and James Dyer Carthage R2 are named among recipients.

Rush County Red Cross fund campaign shows strong progress with Union Township at 252 of 220 goal and Walker Township at 552 of 550. Industrial Division exceeds with 462.59 of 300. Other divisions list varied totals through March 15, totaling 3260.15. Donation of 15 wool blankets from Container Corporation aids disaster relief nationwide.

Indiana Department of Conservation issues Discretionary Order No 68 banning minnow taking by traps dip nets or minnow seines from designated trout streams effective March 31 1957 to March 31 1962. Director Kenneth Marlin says the rule protects and propagates fish species.
Indiana declares open season on all Bass and Panfish from May 1 to June 16 this year by Discretionary Orders 69 and 70. The change, announced after an February hearing, does not alter bag limits or methods of catching.
Mr and Mrs Fred McManus returned to their Carthage home Wednesday after spending the winter in Florida. On Friday guests included Mr and Mrs M L Edwards of Athens Alabama and Mr and Mrs Louis Humes and Mr and Mrs Richard Stumpf of Indianapolis. Edwards and Humes stayed as house guests until Sunday.
