Arlington Student Wins 1964 Rush County Band Festival Scholarship

Dick Walke of Arlington High School won the 1964 scholarship at the Rush County Band Festival held Friday night in Rushville Memorial Gym. He attends Jordan College of Music at Butler University and aims to become a band director. He also earned Indiana All State Band honors and a four year Jordan College of Music scholarship. Last year’s winner was Sandra Benson of Arlington.

Town Council Approves Final Reading of Sewage Plan

A large crowd filled Town Hall as the Town Council approved the third reading and final adoption of the sewage works project. Ordinances 42 43 and 44 were unanimously adopted after open discussion. The $498000 project is funded by a federal grant and housing agency support, with $262000 bonds planned. Construction should begin after bond sale and wrap by March or April next year.

Grass Fire Engulfs Farm Area West of Carthage

Fire departments battled a grass fire that started behind Finley Smith’s farm buildings west of Carthage. Four trucks fought the blaze for two hours as flames spread across acres toward the east and north. The wind aided containment near the Lord home on the Carthage Charlottesville road, with help from Arlington and Knightstown units and volunteers.

The Rush Henry County joint DHIA tour last week explored maximizing dairy production efficiency.
