Mesdames Loyal Hunt Albert Ray Wilbur McCorkle Forrest Beck Thomas Bush and Forrest Moore attended a Flower Arranging Show at Block's Department Store Auditorium last Friday.
The Carthage Community Association will meet on Friday March 27 1964 at 7 30 p m at the Community Center. Residents interested in joining are invited to attend.
Mr and Mrs Ross Tweedy of here and her sister and husband Mr and Mrs Pearl Lykins of Kokomo returned last week from a four week vacation in Hollywood Florida They also visited Mr and Mrs Orrin Miller in Fort Lauderdale during their stay.
The Walnut Ridge Missionary Society hosts Family and Guest night at the Community Center with a 6 30 p m cooperative supper. Rev Frank Guyatt will display color photos from the Holy Land. Invited guests join the Society members in the event. Cyrus W Coffin 84 of San Diego died January 24 1964 in Las Vegas Nevada after surgery. He gifted hundreds of books to Henry Henley Library. Maurice Lukens Mrs Lukens and daughter Candi leave Friday for a two week Florida vacation visiting Arlis Lukens and Mrs Lukens in West Palm Beach.
Miss Julie Ewing daughter of Mr and Mrs Merrill Ewing was elected Girls State representative at a Carthage Legion Auxiliary meeting held Monday evening at the home of Mrs Forrest Beck. Miss Arlene Ruby is the alternate.
Mrs. Charles Whitfield visits New Castle Clinic for tests and will return home Saturday. Marcus Pingleton of Kokomo, formerly from Carthage, in serious condition at Howard Community Hospital. married to Betty Wells. Grace Gurley convalescing at Jackson Nursing Home Rushville. Bearl Addison of Homer suffered a stroke and is at Rush Memorial Hospital. twin brother of Earl Addison. Fred McManus admitted to Rush Memorial Hospital. Orville Porter of Rushville had a heart attack and is at Rush Memorial Hospital. Henry Nelson, in an auto crash, underwent major surgery at Hancock County Hospital. condition serious. Robert Moore returned home from Rush Memorial Hospital.
Marine Private Edward A. McMahan son of Mr and Mrs Kinley McMahan of Carthage Indiana completed four weeks of individual combat training February 21 at the Second Infantry Training Regiment Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton California. Training focused on tactical and combat skills emphasizing small unit tactics including the four man fire team and the 13 man squad.
Miss Irene Bray of Monrovia visited Miss Janice Riley and Mr and Mrs To ney Riley on Sunday.
The Ripley Township Farm Bureau held a March 16 fish fry at the Community Center. Carthage Lions Club prepared the fish and REMC manager Forkner showed a 20 minute color film on electricity narrated by Chet Huntley. Sixty members attended including Mr and Mrs Howard Linville and Mr Alton Gordon. Mrs Linville leads the county Women’s Leaders and spoke on February Farm Bureau conference at Murat Temple. President Kenneth Land adjourned the meeting.

The Safety Awards dinner for Production Group No. 3 at Container Corp of America Carthage Mill occurred Friday night at the Durbin Hotel Rushville. Caleb Marsh led the group which completed its 5th year without a lost time accident. Wilbur McCorkle presided and Hans Buehler praised the group while presenting accident free pins to members.
Miss Sarah Hill 94 native of Rush County died Saturday at Boxwood Nursing Home New Castle where she had lived. Born May 11 1869 she was the oldest living graduate of Carthage High School class of 1888 and taught music in youth. She belonged to Friends Church Knightstown with funeral Monday at 1 30 p m Butcher Funeral Home Knightstown and burial Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
William H. Nelson, 71, of Carthage, was injured when his 1953 Chevrolet southbound on U.S. 40 pulled in front of a lumber truck in Charlottesville. Nelson and James Stalling, 29, of Wilson, N.C., were examined at Memorial Hospital with possible internal injuries, ribs fractured and lacerations. Nelson to be cited for failure to grant right of way. his car totaled.
Wal ker Elliott 48 of Rushville died Saturday afternoon at the Butler Fieldhouse during a Columbus Howe game. Elliott, plant manager for Norris Fertilizer Co., was stricken at 12 45 p.m. He was rushed to a first aid room but could not be revived. He was born March 22 1915 and survived by his widow Dorothy, a daughter Manya Gail, his mother Carrie Elliott, four brothers Ray Gus William Frank and two sisters Elizabeth Williamson and Mary Frances Gatewood.
Indiana University hosting the Little 500 festival May 8-9 with a 50 mile four man bike race plus Mini tricycle, Golf Jamboree, and Bob Hope shows. Fundraising supports scholarships, 1,482 awarded totaling $140,000 since 1951. Committees include Arlington Diane Thorsen promoting the event, Carthage Dave Ruby overseeing promotions, and Rushville Joel Montgomery handling movie duties.
Lafayette Indiana hosts the 12th annual Purdue University Egg Day on April 2 starting at 10 a.m. in Memorial Center. Town Council schedules final readings and adoption of sewer and sewage treatment plans at a public session next Wednesday night March 25 at Town Hall. Residents may attend and voice objections during the final hearings.
The proposed sanitary sewer system for New Palestine failed after only about 60 of ~300 residents signed up. Property owners would have paid $100 and at least $5.90 monthly. funding via a federal grant and bonds will not be used, per town attorney Glenn T. Williams.

Miss Ruth White hosted a birthday dinner Sunday for Hazel Cooper of near New Castle and Kevin Eakins of near Greenfield. Guests included Basil and Ruth Eakins and family from near Greenfield, Hazel Cooper from near New Castle, and Ruth Musgrove from near Carthage.
Hollis Ewing 64 a former Carthage resident and Rush County native died suddenly at his New Castle home Tuesday morning. He farmed most of his life in the Carthage area and later worked at the State Hospital in New Castle. Survived by one son James Ewing Rushville the Church of God New Castle will conduct a 2:00 p.m. Friday service with burial in Glen Cove Cemetery Knightstown.

A daughter was born Wednesday at Rush Memorial Hospital to Mr and Mrs Phillip Lukens of Mt Summit.

Farmers along the highway report widespread beer can litter from passing cars. A west Carthage farmer says a truck would be needed to haul away the cans from his fences, illustrating a growing nuisance caused by nighttime drinkers.

Donald E. Hedrick, Arlington High School principal for three years, resigns to become head principal at North Vermillion High School in Vermillion County. The new consolidated school, formed from Cayuga Perrysville and Newport, opens this fall with about 400 students. Hedrick will assist in summer planning and budgeting operations for the move. Charles Morris will head the North Vermillion district, formerly Carthage High School principal.
