Mr. and Mrs. Benny Kelly of Anchorage Alaska reported by letter that they were unharmed after a recent earthquake. They felt tremors and were shaken but their home location had shifted to another area of Anchorage. The couple has lived in Alaska four years.
The Carthage OES will hold an obligation night meeting on Wednesday April 8 with expected strong attendance. The WCTU groups of Carthage and Charlottesville plan a convention on Thursday April 9 at 10 30 a m at Mrs. Fred B White’s home with a cooperative lunch and speaker Mrs. C O Douglas of Carthage.
The Carthage Band Booster announces a Tuesday meeting on April 7 at 7 00 p m in the school gym The group will present a special program kept secret Seniors and parents are urged to attend Each family should bring cookies Refreshments will be served
Pvt. Richard L. DeWitt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer DeWitt of Carthage, has completed basic training and earned jump wings. He is assigned to Co. B, 8th Special Forces Group at Ft. Gulick, Canal Zone, Panama, with a 30 month service.
Thurman Porter comes home Saturday after a three month stay with his son Captain Thurman Porter Jr and family in Colorado Springs Colorado.
A petition in Rushville probate court for letters of administration in the estate of William H. Nelson who died intestate lists heirs Charles W Nelson Wilkinson Thomas B Nelson Sr Route 1 Carthage Robert H Nelson Baldwinsville N Y all brothers and Phoebe Hunt Route 3 Pendleton a sister. The petition asks that letters be granted to Charles W Nelson. Estate valued at 2000 in personal property and 11000 in real estate.
The Legion birthday supper planned by the Legion Auxiliary for this Saturday night is not held due to other engagements of many members.

The 125th Annual State Convention of the Christian Churches of Indiana (Disciples of Christ) opens April 2 at Clowes Hall Indianapolis. Delegates from across the state attend as dramatic history presentations run five periods and a new Christian Theological Seminary site dedication occurs.

Pre school round-up for Ripley Township is set for April 28 29 at Carthage School with age and immunization proof required. Senior trip runs May 2 9 to Washington DC and New York City with multiple hotel stays and tours. An all day Indiana University Medical Center visit occurs for about 15 students. ECC Volleyball champion Morristown defeats Carthage in semis. yearbooks delivered with dedication to Mr Bayard Baker.
Band Boosters meet in the gym on Tuesday April 7 at 7 00 PM for a special program to be kept secret. Seniors and parents are urged to attend with refreshments and cookies requested from every family.
The notice lists daily meal offerings from Monday April 6 to Thursday April 9. Meals include chili and peanut butter sandwiches on Monday, pork and gravy on whipped potatoes Tuesday, spaghetti with Harvard beets Wednesday, and Bar B Q chicken Thursday with assorted sides and milk.
The Carthage Better Business Association sponsored an Easter egg hunt Saturday at 2:30 pm with prizes from five downtown merchants. An adults draw at 7:30 pm offered three hams and three picnic hams. Prizes were won by numerous children and shoppers at Joyce's Fashion Shop, Carthage Radio, Manuel's Market, J & E Cafe, and Ruby's Market. The Fletcher Methodist Church Egg Hunt followed at 10 am with awards for each class and about 60 children served.

At 7 40 p m Friday Judith Ann Marsh 16 Route 2 Carthage drove into a fence on a county road a mile east of Carthage after losing control in loose gravel. Car damage listed at 250 and fence damage at 25 at Carl Hogle farm.

Gurney T Earnest 70 a Posey Township farmer and trucker died at 4 a.m. Wednesday in Rush Memorial Hospital after nearly four weeks ill He was born April 2 1893 in Ripley Township and lived in Ripley and Posey Townships all his life Surviving are his wife Bessie two children Kenneth and Steve a brother Dale two sisters Flora Widvey Elvira Gilson and Rosa Earnest and a grandson Funeral services will be at Wyatt Moore Memorial at 2 p.m. Friday with Reverend Williams and Reverend Smith officiating burial in Glen Cove Cemetery Knightstown
