Local Ministers Meet in Carthage for Holy Week Union Services

Three Carthage pastors Rev Leonard Bucy host at Fletcher Methodist parsonage met Monday afternoon to plan Union Services during Holy Week. Williams Nazarene Church and Paul Boulton Christian Church will help hold services at various churches with appointments to be announced. All Carthage pastors are recently arrived and foster fellowship and Christian regard.

Robert C. Perisho of Mankato Minnesota and grandson of R. J. Carthage Iowa is named a Woodrow Wilson National Scholarship recipient. The grant funds tuition and fees plus 1800 dollars for living costs at graduate schools. Perisho excels in physics and Quaker activities at Haverford College.

Funeral services were held Friday at Todd Funeral Home Rushville for Alice Hinners 57 of Sexton who died at Rush Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Linda McShurley daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert McShurley of Knightstown won the State Betty Crocker Contest announced by General Mills. She previously won the Knightstown High School event and will travel to Washington to contest nationally, earning a $1500 scholarship and a Ball State College admission in September to study home economics teaching.

Public Service Indiana cuts annual billings by 650000 benefiting about 32000 customers in 69 counties. About 20000 businesses plus 12000 high use residences see the 1 000 kwh monthly threshold drop to 1.2 cents per kwh, with heating costs falling 1.5 to 1.2 cents. Heat with light provision targets electrically heated schools and churches and many commercial customers gain for air conditioning and water heating. Rate plans filed with Indiana Public Service Commission for approval.

Death Comes To Lowell Geise

Funeral services were held for Lowell Geise 55 of Posey Township who died Tuesday morning. The service at Hampton Mortuary Carthage was led by Revs Basil Stultz and Paul Boulton with burial in Arlington East Hill Cemetery. He was a Rush County native born April 4 1909 married Gladys Reddick on March 23 1935. Surviving are his widow a son Phillip Geise his father Cleve Geise step mother Mattie Geise and two brothers Loren and James Geise.
