War Department says Pfc Alva Jack Smith 21, of the Army is missing in action on the Italian front since January 22. He graduated from Anderson High in 1942 and enlisted in the Air Corps in 1943, going overseas in October. He is a nephew of Mr and Mrs A L Tuttle of this place and is survived by his parents Mr and Mrs Charles F Smith of 1131 E 27th Street.

Dr Clement T Malan of Terre Haute announces he will seek re nomination for state superintendent of public instruction at the Republican state convention in June. A nationally known educator author and lecturer he left Indiana State Teachers College after 16 years to become state superintendent in March 1941. He is a member of the legal profession licensed to practice before the U S Supreme Court and author of textbooks used by Indiana University Law School.

Arthur Rogers Dies After Ill Health Near Knightstown
Arthur Rogers expired Tuesday evening at his home northeast of Knightstown after a period of ill health and complications. He lived in Jennings county most of his life and was a former school teacher. Survivors include his widow, a daughter Mrs. Ercel Beaver, two sons Loren and John Rogers, a sister Mrs. Leona Wells, a brother Lester Rogers, and several grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home Knightstown with Dr J G Moore and Rev Samuel M Riggle officiating. Burial will be in Glen Cove cemetery Knightstown.

Mrs Minnie Longerbone Earnest of Indianapolis died Wednesday night in a Bluffton hospital from mastoid complications. She married Elmer Earnest of Carthage on May 13, 1912. She is survived by her husband, one sister, and four brothers. Funeral services were in Portland at 110 o clock Friday morning with burial in Masonic cemetery, Indianapolis.

False affidavits lead to arrests under safety act
Perjury charges will be pressed against those making false affidavits to secure driver's licenses after suspensions. Perry Larimore and John W. Greenwell, both of Indianapolis, will be tried in Marion county. they had licenses suspended for drunken driving and sought new permits.
