Local Students Enter Music Meet at State Contests
Thirteen Carthage high school musicians join 1,550 entries for the state solo and ensemble contests on Saturday April 1 at Indiana State Teachers College. Seventeen judges will hear about sixty events each, with early starts as war time condensed into the largest one day public school music contest. Carthage entries span trumpet clarinet baritone trombone piano voice and ensemble events, with seniors in Class 3 and juniors in Class 4. The instructor A J Carr wishes the group good luck.

Alton Henley Former Resident Dies After Heart Attack
Alton Henley aged 68 died suddenly at his home near Jonesboro from a heart attack. He was born near Carthage to Enos and Elizabeth Newby Henley and wed Daisy Rhodes in 1899. Survivors include his widow two daughters a half sister a half brother and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held at his residence and burial followed in Marion.
