The Citizen publishes an interesting letter from O S Henley and an excellent article by T T Newby on the inner pages. Both pieces have been delayed for two weeks.
J L Hubbard announces public reopening of his Harness Store with invitation to all customers. New patronage welcomed as store welcomes back shoppers and highlights refreshed offerings.
Mrs Emily J. Newlin widow of Jonathan Newlin died at dawn Saturday at the family home in Carthage after years of frailty. Surviving children include Miss Jessie Newlin Walter Charles D Will G and Weldon Newlin. Funeral services were held Monday at ten oclock from the home with singers and a prayer by Rev C O Whitely. Interment followed at Riverside. Lewis and Son funeral directors. Out of town relatives attended from Indianapolis Mooreville and other locales.
Miss Effie McCorkle, daughter of Mr and Mrs Wieg McCorkle, nearly perished near Gosney and White as she wandered toward Mrs Newlin's procession. Gosney warned her away, but a spasmodic attack caused her to roll into the water. Wright and White rescued her from the bank and a neighbor, Daniel Catt, sheltered her for several hours.

Carthage celebrated three days of sales at J. O. Nelson's Hardware with a state fair style display. The crowd packed the store as out-of-town salesmen showcased farming implements, buggies, and stoves. Local musicians entertained while Mrs Ball demonstrated the Perfection Stove. Nelson praised advertising and said the event boosted business for others in town.
Fire at four o clock Sunday afternoon damaged the Dregor property on North Main street occupied by John Tarbet. A defective flue started the blaze found by W F Dana who alerted others. Fire crews used a extinguisher and bucket brigade to quell the flames. much furniture saved though one carpet was ruined by water. Dr Cregor of Greenfield repaired the damage Tuesday.
A Layman's Home Missionary Movement talk by C A Wise is set for 3 PM Sunday March 26 in the Alhambra Knights town. The sermon titled Gods Covenant With Abraham How and When it Will be Ful filled defends biblical themes with free seating and an invitation to Carthage residents.
Vermillion Grove Illinois missionary Emory J Reece will lecture at 2 30 Sunday afternoon April 2 at the Friends church Carthage Representing the Friends African Industrial Mission and he will speak at several Quarterly meeting venues including Charlotteville Western Grover Westland Walnut Ridge and Knighstown with times noted for each stop
Judge Jos G Leffler of Muncie will lecture on What of The Republic at 2 30 p m Sunday March 26 at East St Christian Church. Last in the Sunday afternoon series invites all to hear. Easter Postcards available at Denton Moore Forrest Parish home from Highwood Ill intends to stay several months with his mother Mrs Miriam Parish.
