Gene Richmond has accepted a new role and started work Monday at the Eli Lilly plant with part time duties in Greenfield and Indianapolis. He has been employed in Anderson since returning from military service.

Mrs Louise Phillips Files for County Clerk Nomination

Mrs Louise Phillips wife of incumbent county clerk filed her candidacy for the May 8 Republican primary. She has served as first deputy for seven years while her husband held the seat. The incumbent cannot seek another term by statute. She is the first to file for county clerk and leaves the county surveyor post as the only unclaimed office.

Carthage Man Fined for Assault in Greenfield Court

Travis Tompkins of Carthage Route 1 pleaded guilty in Greenfield city court to assault and battery. He was fined 25 dollars plus costs and sentenced to 30 days at the state penal farm after his plea. The arrest stemmed from a Saturday fight with Sheriff Wayne Weineke in Greenfield, with five prior arrests cited by the defendant.

Forgery charge against Knightstown woman dismissed

A Knightstown woman Minnie Adams aged 37 facing a forgery charge was freed in Rush Circuit Court when Prosecutor James Foster dismissed the case. The affidavit also charged a male companion with issuing a $32 forged check to Lloyd Manuel of Carthage grocery on March 7. The man remains charged. Adams pleaded no funds and Treon Young was appointed as pauper attorney with $25 fees.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Herkless returned Saturday from St. Petersburg Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Howard E Henley arrived from St. Petersburg and Miami Florida on Tuesday night. All report grand weather and a splendid vacation. Mrs. Anna Miller arrived home from several weeks visit in Florida Sunday.

Bedford man injured as pipe rolls from truck on Highway 50

Irvin Mann a 46 year old mechanic for Stone City Construction Co. was taken to Dunn Memorial Hospital with a fractured pelvis and ribs after a 1000 pound pipe rolled off a truck while unloading on Highway 50 near Shoals. He was knocked unconscious and later regained consciousness en route to Bedford. His sister Mrs. Russell Shutt was notified.

Mrs. Della Manche Winslow age 76 longtime New Palestine resident died Tuesday at Hancock Memorial Hospital after a coronary heart attack and pneumonia. Survived by sister Mrs. Hardin and step-daughter Mrs. Davis, services Thursday at New Palestine Methodist Church with burial in Glencove cemetery.

Traffic Crash Involving Truck At Fifth And Main

Early Saturday a Rush County highway truck driven by Vinton Hudson collided with a northbound car driven by Roy Sweet at the Fifth and Main intersection. The Sweet car sustained heavy damage while the truck had minor damage. Sweet suffered a leg injury and received aid at a local doctor’s office. Town Marshal Trowbridge and the State Police investigated.

Mrs. Ella Lida Kiser 76 of Carthage R R 2 died at Rushville Nursing Home about 4 AM Monday after a December stroke in Florida. Knights Town group attends White Shrine supper at Masonic Temple

Harry Barber Dies in Madison at 79

Harry Barber aged 79 of Madison died Monday morning in a Madison nursing home after a yearlong illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Smyrna Monroe Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife, three other daughters, one son, and daughters Mrs. Roy Hearne and Mrs. Foster Wilson.

Ego Show Set for Rush County Courthouse This Saturday

The tenth annual Ego Show will occur on March 24 at the Rush County courthouse. Twenty two firms sponsor the event including Berkemeier Swift Feeds, Diamond Hatchery, Knightstown Elevator, Manilla Hatchery, Ohio Valley Egg Co operative, Rush County Hatchery and more.
