A son Rex Lee was born on March 2 to Mr. and Mrs. Don Redd of Pico California. He is the grandson of the late Wayne C. Linscott and Lucy Al ford formerly of this place.
Rev. and Mrs. Dean McCoy and Ada Cohen returned Friday evening from a pleasant vacation to Florida.
Mr. and Mrs. A B Thompson attended the funeral Wednesday of Mr. Thompson's niece Mrs Harold Reavis of Muncie. Historial Society meets Sunday with Mr. and Mrs Henry L Stinger at the Rushville gathering.
A good turnout attended the Conservation Club card party on Wednesday night with sixteen tables in play. Prizes were awarded to the lucky winners.
Mr and Mrs Jesse Pitts received a Fort Lauderdale call announcing the arrival of a daughter to Mr and Mrs Jack Wessel Mrs Forrest Moore hosted a dessert bridge at her home on Tuesday at 1 pm Guests included Mesdames Walter Stevens Paul Thorpe Kenneth Earnest Burney Farthing Edwin Northam Howard Kehl all of Rushville and Mrs Wilbur Gray of Mays.
Grant Henley returned Tuesday morning from Rush Memorial hospital in Rushville where he has been for several weeks. He is slowly improving.
Harold McConkey of the Rush County Soil Conservation District resigns effective today March 9 to take a position with a commercial firm in Preble County Ohio where he previously taught vocational agriculture. He has served as technician and farm planner, helped 97 farm cooperators and 16 farm surveys, overseen 106 acres contour farming and 47 614 feet of drain tile, 1 6 miles of surface drainage ditches, 6 6 acres waterways and 2 livestock ponds. Edwin Reddick will assist farmers until a successor is named.
Sunday afternoon visitors included Harry Emerick of Marietta Emil Clark and daughter Rosemond of Flat Rock Bedna Massengale of Shelbyville and Claudia Ropp and children of Clifford. Mary Ann Shutt returned to school after a flu absence.
The Carthage Legion Indepen dent basketball team edged Tabernacle Men 60 to 53 at Dearborn gym Indianapolis to capture the Class B city championship after a fourth quarter rally. The squad beat Fletcher Avenue Indiana Gear and Northeast Kiwanis on the way to the final with a 28-0 Kiwanis foe. Coach Ralph Pearson led a standout season including a Morristown holiday tourney win and a near miss in the Industrial league final.
Evangelist Rev Emory Dill of Greentown leads a revival opening next Sunday at Walnut Ridge Friends Church running through Easter Sunday April 1. Louis Barrett serves as resident minister and a special program is planned each evening with a cordial invitation to all attendees.

Carthage churches plan Holy Week union services from Palm Sunday March 25 to Good Friday March 30. Evening services at 7 30 p m feature speakers Basil Stultz Eugene Sommer Dean Mc Coy Rex Krieg and sermons at five churches. Good Friday meditation begins at 2 00 p m at the Methodist Church led by Louis Barrett and Gerald Fleming. Easter Sunday worship in each church to celebrate the Victorious Christ.
Edgar Stinger of Seattle writes he met Bob Edwards, a Spice land former resident, at the Black River Quarry weighing hay and links it to a local paper mill. Edwards sold land to Container Corporation of America for Seattle property work. Stinger, brother of Henry Stinger, lives at 6808 So 140th St Seattle. Mrs Lyle Plank of Anchorage Alaska sends greetings, notes The Citizen, and that they will return home in late July. She mentions heavy snow, increasing daylight, and wildlife in Alaska.
Mailed into a stream of social notices, residents share weekend visits. Cornelia Beher hosted in Rushville while Cherylann Stinger stayed with grandparents in Indianapolis. Parvel Moore joined Robert Norris family in Terre Haute. Hawkins and Moore visited New Castle. Jesse Edwards visited Greenfield.
Carthage chapter O E S met Wednesday March 14. Secretary treasurer and finance committee reports were read and approved. Clothing sent to overseas relief noted. Five dollars voted to the Red Cross. Martha Fancher prepared to leave with closing verse. Past matrons served refreshments. Installation planned for March 29.
The Carthage Lions Club honored 4-H Club boys Herman Robbins and Charles Elmore during a regular dinner meeting. Robbins spoke about the National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago and showed photos. Elmore discussed 4-H club membership. Hubert Hunt screened travel reels to California. The club donated $5 to the Red Cross drive.
The Annual Rush County Share-The-Fun Festival will be held Friday night March 16 at 7 30 p m in the Arlington High School Auditorium. 4-H and Rural Youth members may enter group acts of five or more with a 10 minute limit and curtain acts of up to five performers lasting five minutes. Participants must be club members or accompanists, with acts due March 14 at the county extension office. Committee members are Carol Ann Kirkpatrick Ruth Niehoff and Mark Porter. Public invited.
Mrs. Qdel Pitts visits New Castle with Mary Newman of Chicago and Orpha Hyatt of Milroy while James Terhune hosts a Sunday gathering. Rushville hosts Brown and Floyd families for Sunday dinner as does Connersville with Rhodes and Pruett families. Noah Magee of Pendleton visits his daughter Odell Pitts.
The Methodist Church rummage sale runs through Saturday noon with a Saturday morning auction at The Citizen Office. Weekend guest Mr Bill Schneider of Huntington Indiana visited Mr and Mrs Bill Alexander.
Fred A Bills of Lewisville veteran farmer and former Rush and Henry County commissioner files as a Republican candidate for Joint Representative from Henry and Rush counties. He has held multiple public offices, served in conservation work, and with veteran and service organizations, including Kiwanis and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mrs. Jennie Newhouse of Rushville along with Mrs. Goldie Stewart and Mrs. Joanna Gibson were in Hagertown Sunday afternoon for a social visit.
Harry W. Nigh 63 of Rushville died Wednesday morning at Rush Memorial hospital on his birthday after months of illness. He was a dispatcher at International Furniture Co. in Rush and was born in Kokomo March 14 1893 to Charles and Rebecca Gaston Nigh. He married Leonora Reames on February 2 1915 and lived most of his life in Rush County. Surviving are five sons Carl Lawrence Herschel in Rushville Sgt Francis Mitchell Air Force Base NY Staff Sgt Wesley Rockville Ind Radar Observation Post. one daughter Mrs Wilbur Angle Rushville. three brothers Earl near Henderson Samuel Carthage Alonzo Tacoma Wash Clancy Mansfield Ohio. three sisters Mrs Lindley Taylor Mrs Myrtle Mann Mrs Warnie Mann Carthage. and 11 grandchildren. Funeral 10 am Friday Master & Sons Mortuary Rushville Rev Wayne Isaacs. Burial Asbury Cemetery Morristown.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Mosters in Rushville for Henry S Joyner of Arlington who died last Wednesday. He was born November 22, 1872 in North Carolina and spent most of his life in Arlington. He retired after 50 years with the B and O Railroad. Survived by two sons Harry and Dale, a daughter Barton Fishero, a sister Alice Cain, two brothers Grover and Sidney, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Myrtle Gordon Joyner preceded him in death in 1947.
