Charles Elmore underwent major surgery Monday morning at Hancock Memorial Hospital and is listed in satisfactory condition.
Dr and Mrs George B McNabb and Mr and Mrs Ross Tweedy returned Saturday after a three week trip to Florida. The group traveled the west coast and returned by the east coast and had a wonderful trip.
Mr and Mrs David Grocox and their family relocated to Rushville this week after buying property. Their daughter Mrs Robert Stoner and family will occupy the house vacated by the Grocoes.
Mr and Mrs Thomas Bush and Mrs Denning Nelson of Arlington attended the Golden Wedding Anniversary of Mr and Mrs Ivan Marsh near Muncie on Sunday. The Marshes are the parents of Miss Lucille Marsh a former teacher in the Carthage School.
Mrs. John Brooks shows slow improvement at Rush Memorial Hospital while Mrs. Ina Rhodes and Charles D. Moore remain in stable condition at home. Parvel Moore improves and plans another surgery next month. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Henley stay about the same at home. Mrs. Roy Turner remains ill and unchanged. Mrs. Hubert Hill is in serious condition at home.
Betty Brooks and Edna Kennedy won prizes at the Miss Annis Jean McDaniel beauty shop open house on Friday and Saturday. Brooks received a permanent while Kennedy won a shampoo and set. Delta Kappa Gamma and Alpha Beta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma held March meetings with a planned joint May luncheon and a memorial for Mary Effie Marsters.
The Cool Rod Club held a rodeo on North Main Street with police supervision. Paul Turner led the event with a superb drive scoring 600 points and ranking third overall after the first competition. a points table lists standings and totals from last Sunday.
Five area teachers will chair the Rushville regional meet for Indiana University sponsored contests in mathematics English Spanish and Latin. Regional meets are slated for Saturday March 23 in 33 cities across the state with finals at Indiana University on April 27.

Rush County Medical Association will offer free polio inoculations at Rush Memorial Hospital on Wednesday March 20 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The program covers residents aged one to 40 with free shots for ages 1–19 funded by the federal government and ages 20–40 via a local polio foundation. Request submissions must include name, address, and number of eligible persons. no phone calls accepted.
The eleventh Rush County Achievement Program will be held Wednesday night March 27 at Mays High School. About 350 winners from national state and county levels will be honored starting at 7 30 p m. A booklet listing winners will be given to attending families. Toastmaster Howard Ewbank Rev Malcolm McHarg of Milroy will give invocation and William F Smith will lead group singing.
The March farm market report from Lafayette notes general stability from late February to early March with price strength in lambs cattle and chickens. Wheat and rye rise modestly while corn and soybeans dip. pork and eggs show mixed movement amid government stock adjustments and CCC activity.
The Carthage Lions Club met at the Lions Den in the Community Center led by President Clyde E. Ruby. The group approved a 5.00 donation to the Heart Fund Drive and endorsed two projects including a birthday anniversary calendar to be printed for 1958 with Joe Porter named calendar chairman. Four new members were admitted. Joseph E. Porter and Albert Ray were reinstated while Rev. Robert Shockney and Thomas Shields were initiated. Ora Clayton’s entertainment quiz yielded a Joe Porter score of 31 out of 45.
Indiana Department of Conservation releases 2400 adult cock pheasants to conservation clubs in districts 1 and 2 starting March 1. Each of eight counties including Warren Fountain Montgomery Clinton Tipton Madison Delaware and Randolph will receive 60 birds to replenish losses from last season. About 1140 birds come from Jasper Pulaski Farm Medaryville and 1260 from Wells County Farm Bluffton under conservation officers. Between 500 and 600 Coturnix quail hatched at Muscatatuck Farm.
Rush Lodge No 580 F and AM will hold a called meeting at the lodge hall next Wednesday March 20. E Lee Patton serves as secretary. Social notes list Amboy Indiana visitors Hensler Hawkins Rhoades Carson Lutzenheiser and Calvary Methodist church attendance in Elkhart as a family outing and church gathering.
A large crowd attended the regular PTA meeting at the local Community Center. The event praised the Carthage Raiders, cheerleaders, and officials, featured a supper, musical numbers, and awards for letters and senior sweaters. Principal Morris introduced guests. coach Harold Hardin announced new teams for 1957 58. Dutch Struck of Hanover College spoke on champion traits.
Mr and Mrs John White and Lilburn White joined Mr and Mrs Lawrence Wales for Sunday dinner at Nameless Creek. Russell Shutt and Lloyd Tucker from Morristown visited Indianapolis Sunday evening. Sharlee Kyser and Mrs Hattie Innis from Milroy vacationed with Mrs Gouldie Kyser. Mrs Orda Alexander of Knights town dropped by Mr and Mrs James Terhune Saturday afternoon. Ruth Cook and Maude Shutt were in Indianapolis Monday.
CHS band and chorus prepare for the Rush County Music Festival with five bands performing in a mass formation at 8 p.m. March 15 in Rushville Memorial Gymnasium under director Nile Hovey. Auditions for band and chorus set for April 6, first-time chorus entry.
