Mrs. Robert Gard and her son Bob left Indianapolis for New York City and will fly to Munich Germany to join her husband Sgt. Robert Gard for the next three years. They have been with her mother Mrs. Carrie Bramel for months.
Mrs. Hubert Hill returned home Friday afternoon from Rush Memorial hospital. Miss Janet McCorkle returned to her home Thursday from Rush Memorial hospital.
Robert C. Dhonau son of Mr and Mrs W A Dhonau Carthage is chairman of the Ticket Committee for Butler University Military Ball set for March 25 He is a 1952 Carthage High School graduate and a cadet second lieutenant in Butler AF ROTC Detachment He will earn an industrial management degree in June 1956 and be commissioned in the Air Force Reserve.
Harold Ball underwent eye surgery at St. Vincent's hospital in Indianapolis and returned home Friday.
Mr and Mrs Russell Nigh led the Young People's service at the Manilla Methodist church Sunday afternoon They also conducted the Little Blue River Friends meeting in the evening bringing a message through chalk drawing and music.
Rev Frank Guyatt presents colored movie reel from the Tournament of Roses at Friends church Monday night March 21 at 7 30 p m A voluntary offering will aid the church building program Guyatt formerly served as Friends church pastor and is son in law of Mrs Olive Drysdale.

Kenneth Mathley absent with mumps. James Robert Moore ill with chicken pox. Carrie Bramel ill with sciatic rheumatism. Lillian Julian stable at Humes home. Hubert Hill’s condition unchanged. Edgar Ruby’s remained similar at home. Fletcher Edwards ill with flu. Sarah Newby at Rush Memorial hospital much improved. Ina Rhodes confined at home with back ailment. Royce Joseph at St Vincent’s hospital for observation and treatment.
Omer A. Miller 78 a Jackson Township farmer was fatally injured in a tractor accident at his son Woodrow Miller’s Washington Township farm. His body was found at 12 15 p m by son William Miller after the vehicle rolled and crushed his head while backing. Death appeared instantaneous.
The Ripley Township Conservation Club will hold a Ham Shoot in George Apple’s field east of the school grounds on Sunday April 3 beginning at 1 o’clock in the afternoon.
Bertha E. Newlin died at 10 45 AM Thursday in Robert Long hospital Indianapolis after months of illness. She was librarian at ISSC Home and later Carthage library. Survived by Weldon husband two sisters and two brothers. Funeral Sunday 2 PM at Carthage Friends church with burial in Riverside Cemetery.
At the Northwestern Indiana Soil Fertility Conference in Columbia City Purdue officials promote liming as highly profitable. Dr J B Peterson notes finer lime increases reaction speed while Dr Stanley Barber ties soil texture to lime needs. Purdue bulletin AY 124 outlines lime functions and long term returns from applying 1.5 to 12 tons per acre.
Mr and Mrs Clyde Ruby attended the Indiana Retail Grocers and Meat Dealers convention in Indianapolis last Sunday. Mr and Mrs William F Beck joined the Indiana Orchid Growers Society gathering in Indianapolis. Nelson Stephens and family of Indianapolis were guests of Mr and Mrs Eli Stephens. Mr and Mrs Robert Moore were guests of Mrs Marie Aker at Greencastle last Sunday.
Billy Graham Evangelistic Films will screen Oiltown U S A in Charlottesville on March 24. Local arrangements by Charlottesville churches secure the Methodist church for the 7 30 p m show with doors at 6 30 p m. Admission free and first come seating. The film highlights Graham in Rice Stadium meetings and features Colleen Townsend Evans Paul Power Robert Clarke and more.

Rushville committees announce plans for an Auction Carnival to fund a community swimming pool. Events include a fish fry cake sale hot dog stand and parade with items donated by local service clubs youth groups and celebrities. Donations from manufacturers and stars will be displayed in Rushville and residents will be contacted to contribute and attend on April 16.
A series of weekend and weekday visits are noted. Louis Larson and Esther Richards with Grace Lanman of Indianapolis and Robert Dhonau of Butler University visited Walter Dhonau. Mrs. Charles Roland and daughter Marita spent time with the Roland family near Cumberland. Russell Roland called on relatives in Indianapolis.
Ira E. Lyon, Depart ment Commander of the American Legion, denounces Hoover Commission plans to cut veterans benefits. He cites past sly tactics and warns against closing 20 VA hospitals and forcing veterans to pay for care. Lyon says some reforms may be acceptable, but not sacrifices of benefits for money saving.
Alumni officers announced May 14 as the date for the annual banquet. With Baccalaureate and Commencement on May 15 and 16, the event will be the alumni’s Saturday gathering. Clyde E. Ruby urged all Carthage alumni to save the date and attend. Committee appointments were to be finalized at a Thursday meeting.
Word from George Roland states he landed in France on Saturday but at that time the destination station was not known.
Tivis Lloyd Fitch of the U S Navy was discharged last week at Newport Rhode Island and has returned home. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Uni Fitch and served a little more than two years.
A Friday night PTA sponsored game ended with the Parents beating the Teachers 25 to 22. The contest featured school supporters and highlighted community involvement in youth sports.
Mr and Mrs Norman Roller and children of Huntsville with the Burns family of Anderson and Mr and Mrs Alex Mathley and their sons visited Mr and Mrs Charles Mathley and Kenneth. Mr and Mrs Raymond Welch and Mr and Mrs Raymond Clark of Arlington joined Mrs Mamie Harmon at North Vernon and also visited Madison and the southern part of the state.
The tenth annual Rush County egg show will be held Saturday April 2 at the county courthouse. Events include 4-H and open class divisions for brown and white eggs with prizes for smallest and largest eggs and most unusual specimens. Exhibitors must entry by 10 a.m. and collect by 4 p.m. A special prize goes to the 4-H Club with the largest countywide exhibit percentage.
The Carthage Lions Club met at the Community Center and approved a plan to renumber all houses in town based on a government standard. The club will purchase the numbers and conduct a house to house survey. A committee was named to explore a commencement dance and officer elections are set for the next meeting on April 11.

Choral Club plans music Monday at Friends church with Frank Guyatt showing pictures at 7 30 pm. Fletcher Methodist church hosts pitch in supper March 23 with Dr Kisner and Mrs Kisner invited. Six 4H and vocational agriculture judging teams and two entomology groups traveled to Indianapolis for the district contest. Teams included Poultry and Egg from Milroy and Carthage high schools, Crop teams from Rushville and Carthage, and Entomology squads from Mays and Milroy. Demonstrations covered interval combustion, tractor bearing lubrication, and potato scab treatment. About 250 Rush County 4H members and leaders attended the officer training at Rushville High School, with groups organized by elected offices and awards presented for club attendance.
