A spring fashion show is set for Friday night March 18 at Rushville Memorial Gym featuring latest spring fashions with Billy Moore’s orchestra. Miss Kay Fields and comedian Willie Whitehouse will appear, with tickets sold by Ripley Homemakers and the Mixers Club.
Miss Alta Carfield fell at the Friends church Sunday morning and fractured her wrist and is in Rush Memorial hospital. M. F. Lovett entered the Rush Memorial hospital Sunday afternoon for observation. Mrs. Hubert Hill entered Rush noon for observation and x ray. Lucien Davis, who underwent major surgery at Rush Memorial hospital last Sunday, is doing as well as can be expected. Janet McCorkle entered Rush Memorial hospital Saturday for further treatment.
The county commissioners awarded a gravel contract to Delbert Winkler at 75 cents per yard for screened delivered gravel and authorized Frank Lawrence highway supervisor to prepare tractor and maintainer specifications. Bids for the tractor will be opened at the next meeting on April 4.
The Indiana Senate on Thursday concurred with House amendments to a bill establishing a single rear license plate for motorists. The plate will use blue and gold state colors, alternating yearly between numerals and background, and will take effect next year.
Mr and Mrs Arlis Lukens and Mrs Keith Lukens left for Laredo Texas where Keith Lukens is a cadet at the air base He is to graduate next Monday March 14 and be promoted to second lieutenant Mrs Lukens will remain in Texas with her husband Upon return they will visit Mr and Mrs Jesse Kizer
At the regular Town Council meeting for Carthage, trustees reviewed proposals for a new Carthage Fire Department fire house. An architect from New Castle presented building plans, but no decision was made.
Henry Ridlen aged 63, brother of Joel Ridlen, died Tuesday at 11 30 a m at Major hospital Shelbyville after a short illness. He leaves a widow two daughters Nina and Hazel and one son Earl. Funeral services were held at 3 p m Thursday at Shelbyville Funeral Home.
Lt. Col. Charles Moore and his family visited his sister Mrs. Sharon Hunt and family after returning from three years overseas service in Germany. He recounted experiences in Heidelberg and Frankfurt and other European places. He will report to Camp Chaffee Arkansas for duty. Also with the Moores were Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Moore and sons Tom Mark and Joe of Albany Indiana and Ethel Moore of Knightstown.
Mr and Mrs Jesse Kizer were Sunday dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Paul Billman in Indianapolis commerce.
The P T A hosts a fund raising basketball game Friday night March 11 1955 at Carthage High School gym. Parents clash with teachers. Tip off at 7 00 pm admission 25 cents for all.
Pennina Newsom Bryant 80 died February 27 1955 in Christ Hospital Cincinnati after a two week illness. Funeral services were March 2 in Cincinnati. Survived by three children seven grandchildren and two daughters Mrs William F Lacy Dayton and Mrs Laurence Ustick Lansdowne Pa. The family seeks notes from former pupils of Pennina Newsom.
The Kappa Kappa Sigma sorority will meet next Tuesday night March 15 at the home of Mrs Beatrice Ruby with Mrs Florence Porter assisting. The Camera Club will meet March 16 at the Community Center with committee in charge Mrs Thomas Bush and Mrs James Ellis. Mr and Mrs Bayard Baker returned from Middletown Ohio where Mr Norris is recovering at home from an illness.
Lyle O. Bell former Charlottesville High School coach and current Knightstown teacher was appointed principal succeeding Harold Van Buskirk. The appointment takes effect at term end June 15. Superintendent L. B. Rogers praised Bell as an excellent teacher ready to fit the opening.
Mr and Mrs Walter Dhonau Mr and Mrs Bayard Baker and Mr and Mrs Donald Ruby were in Indianapolis and called on Robert Dhonau at Butler University Sun.
Audra G. Ash aged 60 died Sunday afternoon from a heart attack at her son Glenn Ash’s home in Greenfield after six years of ill health. Born September 25, 1894 in Jennings County, she lived in Greenfield most of her life. Surviving: daughter Evelyn Fletcher, son Glenn Ash, seven grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren, one step-great-great-grandchild, and nephew Russell Tingley of Detroit. Funeral service 2 p.m. Wednesday at Flannigan Funeral Home. burial in Asbury Cemetery, Morristown.
Rev. W. R. Napier of Indianapolis will conduct special services at the Nazarene church next Sunday. Special singing is part of the program.

Rush County 4-H plans National 4-H Club Week with a goal of 1000 members for 1955. Activities include store displays at Stevens Brothers Store and the Shopping Center, a Junior Leaders meeting, a Rotary leader training session, and a county Achievement program at Milroy school to honor 1954 winners. Members can choose from 37 projects, led by local volunteers with enrollment through county extension offices.
Airman Richard Pike son of Mr and Mrs Cecil Pike writes from Okinawa as a flight engineer assigned to a military unit that lost eleven airmen now held by Chinese Reds. He says he is well and plans a July leave. He notes The Citizen visits reach him but a bit late.
Ripley Township Conservation Club met at the Community Center and scheduled a ham shoot for Sunday April 3. A committee was formed to pick the site and run the event. Omar Heim presented colored slides of two Canadian fishing trips by local fishermen. Refreshments followed and members socialized after the meeting.
Mrs Grace Gurley entertained Mr and Mrs Henry Jessup at dinner Sunday at the White Kitchen.
Carthage Chapter No. 574 Order of the Eastern Star held a formal stated meeting with drill and ceremony led by Worthy Matron Laura Scott. Past Matrons and Patrons were welcomed at the altar and received gifts. March birthdays were celebrated. A public officer installation is planned for Friday night March 18, with reports reviewed and remarks offered by members.
The Bush County Conservation Club met at the Elks Club with 85 members and guests enjoying a steak dinner. President S W McKibben reported activities, a well was drilled east of Rushville, outdoor furnaces will be built, archery and a rifle range planned, and a plan to plant nearly 5000 multiflora rose plants. The club aims for 2000 members and ordered 1500 baby pheasant chicks for county youth.
Sunday visits highlighted social activity as Mr. and Mrs. John White called on Mrs. White’s parents Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Brunson at Willow Branch. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Stumpf hosted Sunday dinner for Mr. and Mrs. Louis Humes, while Mr. and Mrs. James Terhune stayed with Mrs. C. O. Kennett in Sandusky. Mrs. Mary Newman and daughter Mrs. Harry Coulier of Chicago also visited.

The Indiana Heart Foundation will launch its 1955 Heart Fund drive in February with Mrs. Herman Thomas of Rushville as county chairman. The campaign backs research, education, and community service to fight heart and blood vessel diseases, claiming major advances in congenital repairs, rheumatic fever prevention, valve surgery, and treatments, while urging Hoosiers to contribute to the effort.
Mrs. Albert Ray and her two sons traveled to Shelbyville on Saturday afternoon along with Mrs. Ria Gray for a social outing.
Emma J. Harvey 74 died suddenly at her home Sunday evening likely from a heart attack. Born March 14 1880 in Posey Township she spent most of her life in the area and belonged to the Little Blue River Wesleyan Methodist church. Survivors include son Marvin Rigsbee Yorktown daughter Wilna Miller Indianapolis. brothers Charles T Northam Arlington Chester O Northam Rushville Clarence W Northam near Arlington. sisters Ethel Hufford Rushville Mary Hester near Arlington. Funeral Wednesday at 2 pm at the Little Blue Wesleyan Methodist church with burial there. Rev. Lee Haines in charge. She was a sister of the late Mrs Fletcher Branson.

Extension poultrymen at Purdue University advise delaying outdoor access for layers until after noon to limit muddy feet on newly laid eggs. Gather all eggs laid before turning birds out, as most eggs are laid in the morning and only an afternoon collection will face muddy conditions.
