Funeral services for the stillborn son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Sparks were held at the Thompson Funeral Home at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon with the Rev Basil Stultz presiding. Burial followed in Town Cemetery. Fay Burkher of R R 1 was admitted to Rush Memorial Hospital earlier in the week.
Mr and Mrs Ross Tweedy attended the Lumberman Dealers convention in Indianapolis on Wednesday and Thursday of last week.
Mr and Mrs Fred McManus returned Friday from Florida where they spent several weeks Dr and Mrs George B McNabb returned Saturday from a several days trip to Florida
Mrs. Ruth Souder moves to her southwest town farm previously occupied by Mr and Mrs James Pope. Mr and Mrs Clarence Heim and family relocate Saturday to the vacated Souder farm.
Dr and Mrs John T Scull of Rushville left Tuesday by bus for a vacation trip to Ft Lauderdale Florida.
Linda Kay Sexton granddaughter of the Rev and Mrs Fleming fell against a floor furnace burning her hip leg and knee in New Castle. She is improving.
The American Legion Independent team from Carthage coached by Ralph Pearson defeated undefeated Kiwanis 73 to 67 to reach the Class B Indianapolis City tournament final. Carthage will meet the Speedway Merchants or Tabernacle winner next Sunday at Dearborn Gym at 2 15 p m for the title.
The interior of the new Dodge owned by Town Marshal Hugh and Martha Trowbridge was badly damaged last Friday night when a portable red light shorted, causing smoke. The blaze was found when they went to the garage Saturday morning to use the car.
Kenneth Bush drove a 1955 Oldsmobile toward Knightstown when his car overturned on the S curve north of Carthage Saturday night. He escaped with minor cuts and bruises as the vehicle slid through a roadside fence at the first curve.
Manager Hugh Trowbridge announces a new band for the Community Center Saturday dance night. The program will include both round and square dancing, drawing local dancers for an evening of lively music and social dancing.
A public euchre party is planned for next Wednesday at 8 p m by the Ripley Township Conservation Club. The event will be held at the Community Center with participation open to residents.
The Fletcher Methodist church announces a rummage sale from Thursday to Saturday March 15 to 17 at The Citizen Office. A market will also be held Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
Mr and Mrs William Castner announce the birth of a daughter Jennifer born January 29 at Methodist Hospital Indianapolis. Mrs Castner is formerly Louise Flick daughter of Mr and Mrs Fred Flick.
Thirteen members of the E. L. B. O. W. met Wednesday night in the home of Mrs. Iva Cook. Co hosts were Mrs. Mary Carson and Bernice Branson. A social evening was enjoyed with refreshments served at the close.
Conservation Club sponsors a public euchre party Wednesday night March 14 at 8 pm. Refreshments will be sold and prizes awarded.

Carthage Legion Auxiliary held a Monday night meeting at the Community Center led by President Rachel King. Dora Ray gave the prayer, Hilda Sandefur read minutes, and Bertha Beck presented the treasurer’s report. A motion to host a Legion Birthday Party on Friday March 16 was approved with past presidents in charge. Miss Suz Anne Bramel spoke on Hoosier Girls State experiences and a film from 1955 was shown. Two Girls State attendees joined Auxiliary Girls Nation in Washington last August. Mary Ann Pulse and Sandra Sue Smith represented Hoosier Girls State. Eight Carthage Junior class girls and members enjoyed refreshments provided by Bertha Beck, Rachel King, and Hilda Sandefur.
Fort Campbell Kentucky February 27 1956 Specialist Third Class George T Roland son of Mr and Mrs Russell Roland of Carthage Indiana was promoted from Private First Class to Specialist Third Class He is assigned to the Mess Hall of the 553rd Military Police Company and handles food preparation and distribution He is a graduate of the Army Food Service School and recently returned to the United States from the European Command.
Mr and Mrs Russell Roland visited Mrs Grace Ashley in Anderson. Mr and Mrs Fred Flick and Mr and Mrs H T Beher were dinner guests of Mr and Mrs William Castner in Indianapolis. Mrs Gouldie Kyser and daughter Miss Sharlee and Mrs Hattie Innis visited Richmond on Wednesday. En route they called on Ervin Renegar who is quite ill in Lewisville.
Public Service Company of Indiana, Inc. reports earnings per share of 235 for 1955 after preferred dividends, vs 238 for 1954. Net income rose to 12,536,223 from 12,175,837. The president notes rate adjustments are needed as returns remain unsatisfactory despite higher sales and revenues.
Mrs Opal Moore hosted a morning coffee for ladies aiding the Red Cross drive with co chairmen Mrs Beatrice Ruby. Guests included Agnes Hensler Maud Barbour Flossie McCorkle Connie Fenner Lillian Stanley Ellen Foust Jonella Schnieder Mary E Bush Ona Hunt Joanna Gibson Ruth Jackson Mary Ellen Dixon Louise Tuttle. Red Cross kits were distributed and some solicitors could not attend.
Mrs George Moore hosted the 8 and C club Monday afternoon at Mrs Hattie Caldwell's Rushville home with 10 members and two guests. Refreshments followed social time. Leonard Ruby of Jackson Michigan and Ralph Mosier with daughter Sheryl visited local couples en route to Florida. Wilbur McCorkle attended the Sportman's Show in Indianapolis Sunday.
Special evangelistic meetings begin March 19 at Charlottesville Friends Church and run through Easter Sunday. R. Ernest Lamb will deliver messages nightly at 7 30 with special music. Lamb, a Northern Ireland native, has spent 20 years in California Yearly Meeting ministry and 6 years as its superintendent. He also directed Evangelism and Stewardship for Five Years Meeting. A free will offering will cover meeting expenses.
Marine Pvt. Max Robertson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy T. Robertson of Carthage Indiana, finished four weeks of individual combat training at Camp Pendleton California on February 20. The course covered infantry tactics first aid demolitions field fortifications and weapons instruction. Marines are trained as infantrymen whether they serve as cooks clerks drivers or in aviation units.
Rush County Forestry judging results show Manilla 4 H and FFA boys winning with 326 points led by Max Crim and Jan Ernstes. Second place 288 points went to Nelson Houston and Philip Wright. Entomology title 342 points claimed by Lynn Gardner and Don White from Mays, coached by Kenneth Brashaber.
Rush County high school students are invited to attend Indiana University summer clinics and meetings on campus. About 5,000 students are expected, with programs in music journalism science and library work. Events include a June 3-9 science institute limited to 60 top science students and annual journalism and music clinics in July.
Little Garnet Jones, son of Mr and Mrs Norman Jones, celebrated his first birthday on March 6 with family gathering and well wishes.

The Rush County Hereford Breeders Association held its annual banquet on February 20 with 16 attendees and elected Robert McDaniel as chair, Worth Hodson as vice-chair, and John Nelson as secretary-treasurer. They accepted to host the July 1 Hereford Cattle Breeders picnic at Worth Hudson’s farm and announced 4-H awards including cash prizes for champion and place Hereford steers and heifers, plus rosette ribbons for top animals.
Mr and Mrs George Moore visited the Wyatt Moore Mortuary in Rushville Sunday afternoon to pay respects to Mrs Ethel Freehart whose funeral was held at 10 90 Monday morning with burial in East Hill cemetery Rushville.
Carthage High School held a junior class tournament with good attendance and thrilling games. Juniors beat seniors 44 to 37 in game one, sophomores edged juniors 48 to 42, and the sophomores pulled ahead to win 70 to 47 in the final. Grade seven won the preliminary contest. Officials were Bob Stephens Bill Windsor Bill Aker and Wally McClurg. Bob Mc Corkle scored 25 points in a single game.
Carthage High School Alumni Association officers disclosed plans for the Fourth Annual gathering on Saturday May 12 1956. President Bob White announced committees including TABLE RESERVATION NOMINATING DECORATING PROGRAM and other organizers. The group invites all alumni to attend with details to come.
Models will display new spring fashions on Wednesday March 14 at 7 30 p m in the school building. The Joy Bringers Class of the Christian church with Flo Hickman Dress Shop hosts the event in Knights town with music by Mrs Lois Beckner and Mrs Zelda Offutt. Narrator Mrs Mary Beckner will present garments worn by women and girls including Mrs Louise Wicker Mrs Berniece Love Mrs Mildred Hyatt and several others plus the Misses Linda Winkler Bonnie Rucker Carol Offutt Jeanie Hull Anita Haywood Joann Tucker Susie Kennedy Janet Heath and Marjorie Hill.
Mr and Mrs Harold Culbertson visited Aurora on Sunday then called on relatives in Greensburg Sunday evening.
Earl Sears aged 80, a Rush County farmer, died at 10 p m Wednesday night at his daughter Mrs Ewart Collins home in Knightstown after two years of ill health. He was born August 12 1875 in Rush County and leaves a daughter a granddaughter and a great granddaughter. Funeral services set for 11 a m Saturday at the Butcher Funeral Home Knights.
The Carthage fifth and sixth grade team beat Mays on Monday night at Mays in 2018. Regional tournament activities featured a dinner with seven Vevey guests and multiple local residents visiting various hosts and families around Greenfield and surrounding towns.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 10 30 a m at Butcher Funeral Home Knightstown for Luther White of Knightstown born in Rush County son of Albert and Cynthia White living northwest of Carthage. He belonged to Charlottesville Friends church. Burial followed in Glen Cove cemetery Knightstown.
Ralph Pearson has been ill for several days and many others suffer from bad colds and viral infections. Grant Henley remains in Rush Memorial hospital in a stable condition.
Mrs Harriett Rawls Gordon writes from Japan with her husband Paul Gordon Sr and their son and his wife about Dr Gordon returning to the University of Virginia for a major operation. He recuperated with his sister in law Miss Jeannete Rawls and her mother Mrs Avery Rawls in Washington DC.
Mr and Mrs Robert Murdock of Indianapolis visited Thursday afternoon with Mrs Murdock's sister Mrs Hubert Hill.
