The Better Business Association of Carthage sponsors a record hop at the Carthage Community Center from 7 30 p m to 10 30 p m Saturday March 7 Dick Lane of W C T W will MC and Kenny Jackson will be featured.
Mrs James Geise entered Rush Memorial hospital for surgery. Robert Lee Sweet 22 months old son of Rex and Mrs Sweet admitted to Methodist Hospital with spinal meningitis. He was removed from critical list Wednesday. Mrs Dessie DeWitt returned home Wednesday from Rush Memorial Hospital after breaking her ankle last week.
Mr and Mrs Lindley returned to Carthage Monday after several weeks in Mexico City Mexico.
Mr and Mrs Lloyd Manuel and sons Mr and Mrs Al Stapp and daughters Jeanie and Linda Apple attended the Harlem Globetrotter Basketball game at the Indianapolis coliseum Sunday evening. Russell Nigh directs music at Grant City Friends meeting March 2 to 15 at 7 pm CST. George Cole pastor of Little Blue River church conducts services.
The public is invited to a P.T.O. athletic pitch-in supper banquet on Tuesday March 10 at 7 p.m. at the Community Center. A program and speaker are planned for the evening's banquet and meeting. CHI RHO NEWS Met at Christian Church. The meeting opened with president Jeanie Stapp. Mariann Wachtstetter led the roll. Arlene Ruby and Steve Marshall received 500 point pins from Rev. Kendall. The Adult Farmer Class will hold its next meeting on Tuesday night March 10 at 7 30. Plans will be laid for a series of meetings on welding and machinery repair.
Golden Dawn Farms in Carthage recently purchased two Aberdeen Angus bulls from Ankony Farm in Rhinebeck New York.
Mr and Mrs John Stoner of Carthage are the parents of a son born Wednesday.
Carthage Chapter No. 574 will hold a regular stated meeting Wednesday at 7 30 p.m. Memorial services will be held and new members honored. Officers come in formal attire and bring rituals for desk closing of the year. Members bring refreshments in a sack or box. drinks supplied by the chapter.
Mr and Mrs Ross Tweedy and Dr and Mrs George B McNabb came home Wednesday after a pleasant two week vacation in Florida.
Logan W. Smith conducts revival at Carthage Friends Church recounting Jamaica missionary travels including meeting the Queen. Program Friday at 7 30 PM invites public attendance. A carry-in dinner Sunday honors Logan and Opal Smith for leading the revival services.
Rev and Mrs Gene Miller of Wilmore Kentucky were Sunday evening guests of Mr and Mrs Hubert Hunt and Pamela. Mr and Mrs Richard Williams of Knightstown and Mr and Mrs Clyde Ruby attended a show in Indianapolis Sunday evening.

The Carthage Raiders fall 73 to 71 in overtime at home to Manilla, trailing after a close game in which Jack Smith fouled out and Manilla controlled the late game. Seniors Leisure Smith Overman Gatewood and others are noted with accolades and team notes.
Charles Mosier and daughter Sue visited Mrs Olive Drysdale at Rev Frank Guy's home in Dublin. Maurice Lukens spent the weekend with daughter and family in Columbus Ohio. Marlin Wilson of Elkhart University was a weekend guest of Foster Wilson. Roy Small joined Elmer McMichael Jr and family for Sunday dinner. Foster Wilson and family hosted Roscoe Wilson and Tives Fitch for Monday supper in Roscoe's honor.
Rush County commissioners approved specifications for a highway department road grader and set 11:30 p.m. March 16 for bid opening with trade in of the current grader. They will assist Carthage officials on a jointly maintained south side road and consider Homer alley closure petitions for future action.
Joe Bogue 75 of Arlington died suddenly at 1 20 p m Friday at his home after a two month illness. He was born October 31 1883 the son of George and Amanda Gilson Bogue. He married Blanche Spencer September 1 1912 who survives. A retired farmer he belonged to Arlington Christian Church. Surviving are wife a daughter in law a son Spencer Bogue a brother Sam Bogue and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Wyatt Moore Memorial with burial at Arlington East Hill Cemetery.
James W. Bill Pifer and Wallace Wally Gardner lead a six night Church Life Revival at East Street Christian Church from Sunday through Friday March 15 to 20. Services start at 8 00 EST nightly with Pifer preaching and Gardner directing spirited singing. The minister offers evening consultations at 7 00 EST and a daily after school song fest for youth with Gardner showcasing fun singing and activities.
The East Street Christian Church held its Annual Birthday Supper with about 150 attendees. Rev. Basil Stultz gave thanks for the meal as 12 creatively decorated tables lined the dining room. The program in the auditorium featured Frank Brooks on violin with James Ellis Jr. and Don Myers and his Twelve Girls plus Steve Johnson on trumpet.
The Mixers Home Ec Club will gather this Friday March 6 at 2 p m at Mrs Eva Leisure’s home. Mary Nigh and Lars Ruth Shields will lead a lesson on Basic Patterns for club members.
The Rev James H Jones a long time Nazarene missionary and Barbados superintendent since 1946 will speak at the Carthage Church of the Nazarene on Tuesday March 10 at 730 pm He will show pictures upon request Jones hails from Marion Ohio and is on deputation work for Nazarene churches He notes Barbados Nazarene work rebuilt after 1955 Janet hurricane now has 34 churches and 1500 members with six full time missionaries and 32 national workers He led Barbadian Ministerial association during Billy Graham crusade with 3300 seekers at twelve night services Jones attended Eastern Nazarene College and preached 16 years as a pastor.
Jury commissioners selected the March Term venires for Rush Circuit Court, which opens next Monday. The court is in vacation with no hearings this week. Grand jury and several petit jury members are listed by townships including Rushville, Posey, Ripley, Anderson, Washington, Noble, Union, Manilla, Carthage, and Milroy with multiple names and addresses.
The WCTU reschedules its meeting to March 19 at 7 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Nigh. A family night pitch-in supper and a film will be shown.
Paul Glisson county assessor announces the annual assessing period began in Rush County with a detailed rates sheet for household goods televisions and electric appliances. Tops are listed for diamonds hogs and livestock with downward adjustments possible.
Twenty three Jr Young People gathered at the Christian Church last Thursday evening. Bible verses were shared and group singing followed by games. The night closed with a song and prayer by David Whitfield. Refreshments were served by Butch Holmes and David Plue to members and one guest.
Mr and Mrs Clyde E Ruby and family of Carthage attend a Tuesday evening concert of bands at Indiana University Music Hall. Mike Ruby is listed as a member of the Varsity Band.

New corn varieties show strong potential, while district competitions highlight local 4H and vocational agriculture activities with teams led by Fenner, Robbins, and Blankenship.
Two Rush County residents, Mrs. Joseph Alexander of Rushville and Mr. Donald Staten Jr. of Carthage, were named Indiana’s outstanding former 4 H Club members for 1958. They received burnished copper plaques from Olin Mathieson Chemical Corp. Plant Food Division. Alexander is a longtime 4 H leader and Mother of the Year winner, while Staten, a 4 H livestock champion and Purdue graduate, now runs Golden Dawn Farms with a large cattle operation.
