A public gathering is set for next Wednesday at 7 30 p m at the Community Center to discuss General Telephone Company plans to discontinue free service. Arlington Morris town and Carthage patrons are urged to attend.
District Supt. Dr. Tyler of Rushville will deliver the Sunday message at Carthage Fletcher s Methodist Church. All members are urged to attend the service followed by a pitch in dinner at noon with attendees asked to bring food and table service.
Mr and Mrs James Parrigin announce the birth of a son born Saturday March 7 at Rush Memorial Hospital. Mrs Parrigin is the former Phyllis Cline.
The Walnut Ridge Friends Meeting announces an attendance crusade for March and April to boost regular service attendance. Sun day School target 75 and morning worship goal 60, with Pastor Robert L. Morris hoping members and others share in reaching the aims.
Ten members and three guests of the Carthage Garden Club visited the Flower and Patio Show last Friday at the Horticulture Building, State Fair grounds in Indianapolis. Dinner followed at the Heritage dining room on East 38th Street with listed members and guests. They admired flower displays and arrangements and made several purchases.
A large audience attended the Cooking and Laundry School and Style Show presented by the Carthage Radio and Appliance Shop and Fair Lady Dress Shop at the Community Center. The Two Hits and A Miss provided music while demonstrations were led by Emerson Pearson of Frigidaire and Jane Bigger of Public Service Co. of Indiana.

Carthage High School placed first among four teams in the Rush County 4-H and FFA Poultry and Egg Judging Contest held March 7 at Milroy High School. Top individuals included Mary Jane Blankenship and Mike Heim, with judging by Byron Turk.
A Carthage group attended the Regional ballgame in Connersville on Saturday. Among them were Mr and Mrs Ralph Pearson, Ronnie Gatewood, Jimmie Overman, James wedv, Eugene K Gardner, Bill Alexander, Mr and Mrs Robert McKain, Mr and Mrs Fred Parish, Mr and Mrs Kenneth Rhodes, Mr and Mrs Fred Magee, Marilyn Jo Gray and Virginia Eckart of Raleigh. Rex Edwards and son visited Mr and Mrs Fletcher Edwards for Sunday dinner. The group also visited relatives at Fort ville in the afternoon.
Four Carthage School students won the Americanism essay contest sponsored by the Carthage Legion Auxiliary and advance to the district contest. The auxiliary will award $2.50 each to Larry Jenner 8th grade Jeanine Terhune 9th grade Frank Clark 12th grade and Deanna Carroll 8th grade.
The Rushville sectional tourney reported a record $7,450 in receipts this year. Addition of Charlottesville and five session days boosted income beyond the 1957 peak of $6,674. Sales included 1,295 season tickets and 5,617 session tickets with major expenses listed.
An elderly Arlington woman Susie Young 79 died in Rush Memorial Hospital six hours after being badly injured crossing U S 52. She was struck by Lawrence Cain 54 of Indianapolis who swerved but she stepped into the path. Survivors include sons Earl and Frank, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a sister.
Mr and Mrs Milton Barry and family visit Thomasville as house guests of Mr and Mrs Lawrence Barry and daughters. Marilyn Jackson visiting home from Ball State Teachers College. Mrs Ray Fox and sons stay with Mr and Mrs Russell Roland. Mrs E R Kelsey from Burley Idaho arrives for three weeks with daughter Mrs Lee Patton. Opal Moore attends a Desert Bridge party in Rushville. Sharlee Kyser and Hattie Innis weekend guests of Gouldie Kyser.
The Carthage team of Mary Jane Blankenship Mike Heim Ronnie Fannin and Raymond Plue scored 2214 points to win the poultry and egg judging contest by 70 over Milroy. Blankenship led with 766 points, followed by Heim 748 and Patterson 700.
