About 200000 previously nonfilers will enter tax records, aided by 60 field auditors in license bureaus July 10 to 15, as returns must be filed without notarization and payments go to the gross income tax division.

New Gravel Dipping Record Set by Charles Grubbs

Charles Grubbs of Rush county broke the gravel dipping record Tuesday by dipping 550 yards at the Ed Buscher farm southwest of here tenanted by Warren Mann. He used five county trucks and completed the work in ten hours, surpassing the previous 345 yard mark.

Carthage beat Kennard 8 to 4 as a soaked ball game saw Gardner allow four on errors before settling in. Mosier and Gardner doubled, H Hardin homered, and Carthage built runs with steady hits while Kennard managed only two. Death of Carroll Williams in Knights Town

Carroll Williams died from brain fever after a year and a half of illness. Funeral services were held at his family residence with Rev. Schoolfield officiating. Interment followed at Glencove cemetery in Knights Town. He is survived by his mother and sister Betty. his father died recently. Howard had attended local schools for two years but was often absent due to ill health.

Death of William Alonzo Julian and funeral details

Funeral services for William Alonzo Julian were held Tuesday at 10:00 at his brother John Julian’s home. Born October 12, 1863 in Jamestown Boone county he lived in Indianapolis before settling in the local community. Survived by brothers George and John Julian. never married. ill health for four years. interment in Town cemetery north of here.

County commissioners award road surface contracts

At a county meeting last Friday the commission awarded contracts for road resurfacing materials. Kokomo Construction Co. of Kokomo won three bids for tar, cutback asphalt, and road oil. W. L. Magaw Co. of Richmond received the emulsified asphalt bid. All bids require the successful bidders to supply and apply the materials. Kokomo bid 12.24.

County approves multiple road surfacing bids for summer project

The county accepted bids for tar at 7.5 cents per gallon, cutback asphalt 7.74 cents, road oil 4.73 cents, and emulsified asphalt at 69 cents per gallon. About 75 000 gallons were bid on, with delivery dates not fixed. Four materials will yield varied hard surfaces on county highways and town streets this summer, targeting 15 to 20 miles, with a possible Carthage Arlington pike inclusion.

The 11 Eches reports well attended Sunday school and two weeks of Vacation Bible School with happy times and learning. A picnic at Over flowing Well drew church members with plentiful food ice cream swimming and visiting. Young people plan to attend Annual Young Friends Conference at Quaker Haven next week.

A Sunday morning Children Day program at Friends Church featured supervision by Mrs Pickett and Mrs Frank Guyett with assistance from Maria Henley and Ramona Jane Winfield. The event reviewed two weeks of Vacation Bible School activities including songs verses art projects and Bible based themes.

A Bunch of Fun Delights Local Community Play

A sizable crowd gathered despite heat to watch A Bunch of Fun by Young Quakers of the Friends church. Cast included Charlie Mosier Greta McLain Isabel Addison and Betty Webb with Martha Drysdale and the parish crowd ending with a cheerful moral and a Carthage Band performance directed by Henry Stinger.
