Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hampton and their sons came home Sunday after a week away. They spent four days at Shakamak State Park and three with Mrs. Hampton's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Avery Stevenson in Springville, plus visits to relatives in Bedford.
Eugene Dudley was moved Sunday from Rush Memorial Hospital to the Community Hospital in Indianapolis room 514-D. He underwent facial surgery Monday afternoon.
Mr and Mrs Charles Whitfield and children Amy and Joe came home last Thursday from a two week vacation at Shakamak State Park. Also visiting were Mr and Mrs Ora Clayton and family of Indianapolis Mr and Mrs Marvin Johnson and sons and Mr and Mrs Frank Hampton and sons.
Mrs Raymond Kennedy and Mrs Rachel King attended the district meeting of the OES Post Matrons at the Milton Indiana Masonic Hall. Officers were elected and installed. Mrs Kennedy chaired the entertainment and introduced the Tri-Tones of Carthage with Lynn Kennedy on piano. The Tri-Tones members are Carol Carver Pam Hunt and Jeannine Terhune.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Chew and two children returned Friday from a weeklong trip. They camped two days at Whitewater State Park then visited Monticello and Indiana Beach for the rest of the week. The Christian Women’s Fellowship will meet July 5 at the Christian Church with hostesses Mesdames Bush Hull and Gibson.
Mrs. Robert Winters and her two sons will return to Carthage from California on July 16. They stayed with her parents in Vin Nurs, California. Mrs. Winters notes a visit to San Diego with relatives Mr. and Mrs. Richard Smith. Mr. Smith is an officer aboard the Kitty Hawk, the second largest aircraft carrier, who gave them a ship tour. They also visited Disney Land and the new Dodger Stadium among other sights.
The Come Join Us class of Carthage Christian Church held a pitch-in supper and social evening at the home of Mr and Mrs Lloyd Manuel and sons on Sunday evening June 24. Guests included Mr and Mrs Robert McKain John Wagner Rev and Mrs Robert Kendall and children Mr and Mrs Ed Carroll and sons Mr and Mrs Clyde Ruby Mr and Mrs Dale May and sons Mr and Mrs Ted Skillman and daughters Mr and Mrs Elmer French Mr and Mrs James Ellis and family Mrs Mary Joseph and son and Mr and Mrs Richard Harrold and daughter.
Specialist Fourth Class Michael C. Ruby was honorably discharged from active duty on June 22 at Fort Bragg North Carolina. He earned the Good Conduct Medal and served with the 82nd Airborne Division known as Americas Guard of Honor. He entered service in June 1959 and was a News Writer and Administrative Specialist for the Division Headquarters Public Information and Relations Office. He is a Carthage High School 1958 graduate who attended Indiana University for one year and married Shirley K. McCorkle. They have two daughters Doreen Alane and Denese Lorane.
Carthage welcomes Rev. Jack Allen Wallace from Evansville as the new minister at Fletcher Methodist Church. He is married to Alberta Jo Greasham, they have two children, and he is 26 with degrees from Reitz High School Evansville College and studies toward a Bachelor of Divinity. He served in the Navy 1954 1957 and was ordained a deacon in 1962.
Mrs. Ernestine Cole 63 of Morristown died at 8 40 p m Monday in her home. Born July 5 1898 in Rush County she was married twice to Boyd Nigh and Gene Cole both deceased. Survived by three children two stepchildren four grandchildren and one at home. Funeral 2 p m Thursday at E L Frazer Morristown with Rev Robert Galloway. burial in Ashbury Cemetery.
The Rush County Better Crops Association reports weekly rainfall by township from April 1 to June 16 in cooperation with the Extension Office. Orange Township had 11.1 inches the highest, Noble 4.9 inches the lowest, with an county average of 7.2 inches. The group seeks a link between rainfall and crop yields.
Mrs. Gale Ging of near Greenfield visited her parents Mr. and Mrs. Guy Ewing on Tuesday.
About three hundred attendees filled the Carthage Community Center for a dance revue by Miss Pam Hunt and guests. The evening featured ballet tap Hawaiian can can modern jazz and novelty numbers with decorative lighting by Indiana University student Dean Gardner. Jack Rhoades served as MC and Isabelle Schultze accompanied on piano with a Carthage cast handling ushering and spotlight duties. Guest performers included Larry Mary and Jill Zumkeller of Connersville.
Charlottesville built an early lead then beat Carthage 12 9 in a high school game. Porter doubled for Carthage while Kinder Moore and Powers produced two hits apiece for Charlottesville. T Barton pitched six no hit innings before allowance of four hits in the final frame.
Carthage Little Leaguers came from behind in the fourth inning to beat Morristown 4 to 3. Warren Nigh delivered a timely fourth inning single driving in Porter and Ewing as Lafuse limited Morristown to two hits. Edwards had two hits to lead Carthage at the plate.
Morristown seventh and eighth graders defeated Carthage 11 to 3. Winning pitcher Stout limited Carthage to two hits while Morristown added 11 runs on seven hits. Batton led Morristown with a home run and a single. Carthage duo Lafuse Ed wards and Rucker played for the visitors.
Carthage beat Laurel 8 to 3 on the winners field Tuesday. Carthage hit in every inning except the second and posted doubles by Jackson Patterson and Weidner while McPherson doubled for Laurel. Carthage pitchers struck out five and walked six. Laurel walk three and fanned six. Manilla played a high school game at Carthage at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Miss Barbara Addison and Milo Gray of Greenfield were married and held a wedding and reception Sunday afternoon at the Greenfield Presbyterian Church. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Parvel Moore, Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Moore, and Mrs. Dinnie Moore of Carthage.
Rush County ranked 66th among Indiana counties for primary turnout with 4 442 ballots, 1 595 Democratic and 2 847 Republican, from 2 405 059 registered voters. Statewide turnout was 38.87 percent, totaling 934 942 ballots. The report notes higher raw votes but lower share due to more registered voters.

The Walnut Ridge Church Bible School runs from Monday July 2 to Friday with sessions 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Each child in the Carthage vicinity is invited to attend.
Seventeen members of the Carthage Christian Women Fellowship and one child attended a Monday afternoon tea and program at Center Christian Church. Knightstown CWF guests joined in. Rev Hasty spoke, a book was reviewed, and music accompanied light refreshments.
Rush County Fair announces twenty one ceramics classes across divisions for adults and students. Exhibitors must be Rush County residents, may enter one item per class, entry fee fifty cents, and deliver entries by 4 00 p m Friday July 27 with prizes ranging from 50 cents to 1 50 for first place and a 3 00 sweepstakes premium.
Miss Pam Hunt entered Jordan College of Music at Butler University for summer sessions. She will attend afternoon daily classes this week.
Mr and Mrs Lyle Plank Miss Judy Harrold and Bill Muir and Mr and Mrs DeWayne Roland of Knightstown attended the Indiana Kentucky All Star basketball game at Butler fieldhouse Saturday night.
Postmaster and Mrs William Alexander of Carthage attended the 10th District Postmasters Meeting at Winchester on June 20. The event was held at the American Legion Home.
The Carthage Band Booster Association expresses gratitude to the Carthage Lions Club for a full band uniform and to Ercel Bever Jr for a $5.00 cash gift. It also thanks all who donated during the house to house canvass Thursday evening. a list of contributors will appear next week.

The Carthage Lions Club held a business meeting at the Community Center to install new officers led by Harold Walker of Knightstown. New officers include Tom Shields president James Ellis and Lloyd Manuel vice presidents Parvel Moore secretary Guy Ewing treasurer Clyde Ruby tail twister Jack Tweedy and Robert Kendall chaplain with directors Lewis Lafuse and Hubert Hunt. The club voted 71 dollars to the Carthage Band Boosters for a new uniform and prepared a tape exchange with Lions in Warialda New South Wales Australia. Refreshments followed and the next meeting is planned for September.
Paul Edwards reports match results for the Mixed Doubles League with teams including Sparemasters and Rubicanes. Rubicanes posted the top team score with 2302 and 619 as the single game best, while C Ruby led men with 513 across three games and B Edwards led women with 432 in three games.
