Mr and Mrs Herbie Beher of Carthage marked their 50th wedding anniversary at home. Married June 18 1912 at Car Friends Church parsonage by Rev J Edgar Williams. The couple has spent their life in Carthage and Mr Beher is retired from the garage business.
A Dance Revue will be presented tonight by Miss Pam Hunt’s students at the Community Center at 8 o'clock. The event showcases local dance talent in a themed program.
Mr and Mrs Bill Akers and their two sons spent the weekend in a trailer at Lieber State Park and Reservoir near Cloverdale Indiana from Friday through Sunday describing a family outing in Indiana.
Among those at the Methodist Conference in Bloomington on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. James Whitfield and three children, Mrs. Raymond Kennedy, Judy Kennedy, Lynn Kennedy, Sue Mosier, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Hunt, Pam Hunt, Jeannine Terhune, Sue Siler, Rev. and Mrs. Paul Mayfield.
Mrs. A. J. Carr of Knightstown and Mrs. A. W. Winfield of Carthage spent from Thursday until Tuesday on a trip to New York to visit their children. Mrs. Carr visited Mr. and Mrs. Jack Carr in Rochester while Mrs. Winfield saw Mr. and Mrs. Fred I. Doebber and sons Tom and Jon in Syracuse.
Victor R. Kerlin, 23, of Lapel, a teacher, and Maryin Leona Jackson, 22, Route 2 Carthage, a teacher, were issued a marriage license.
Ruth A Pennington daughter of Mr and Mrs Jesse Pennington Rushville Indiana was promoted to specialist four at Fort Leavenworth Kansas where she serves as a medical specialist at Munson Army Hospital She joined the Women's Army Corps in February 1961 and is a 1959 graduate of Mays High School
Local shoppers won door prizes and merchandise certificates at Manuel's Market last Saturday. According to owner Mr Manuel, prizes went to Eugene Gardner Maude Porter Lola Porter Evelyn Siler Stella Loveau George M Jackson Jack Locker Marie Fannin and Ellen Foust. He also reported selling 1056 ham sandwiches Friday and Saturday.
Mr and Mrs Ralph Mosier Mr and Mrs Wilbur McCorkle and Mr and Mrs James Mosier with their children left Cincinnati for a ten day vacation at Ludington Michigan departing Sunday their plans include a stay in Ludington and sightseeing along the lake shore.
The sheriff's department accounts three arrests Saturday and Sunday. Cecil DeWees age 58 and Melvin McClurg age 21, both of Carthage, were arrested Sunday in a parked car on Steele's Ford road. McClurg appeared in JP Court with case continued and released on a $500 bond. DeWees appeared in Greenfield City Court Monday and was fined $5.00 and costs on a guilty plea.
The Beers-Barnes Circus of Sara sota Florida has arranged with Carthage Volunteer Fire Department and Police Department for a July 28 appearance. The big top tent will be set near the old Carthage Pumphouse on the Knightstown Carthage Pike. Advance tickets will go on sale with fire and police department staff conducting sales.
Mr. and Mrs. John Rhoades and daughter Lori returned to Carthage Saturday after a two week stay with Mrs. Rhoades' parents Mr. and Mrs. Walter Goldsmith in Harlem Montana. While there Mrs. Rhoades' sister Mrs. Jack Atkinson and three sons from Oklahoma joined the Goldsmiths for the visit.
Kirby Overman son of Mr and Mrs Jack Overman of Carthage recently graduated from Ball State at Muncie with a B S in Education and aided in chartering the new Epsilon Omega Chapter of Sigma Chi He coordinated plans and activities and served as pledge trainer and ritual coordinator amid a week of events that included an address by U S Senator Barry Goldwater Attendees included Mr and Mrs Jack Overman of Carthage.
The Rush County School Reorganization Committee proposes a three unit system for November voters. Northern townships form North Rush County Schools, southern townships plus Posey Township form South Rush County Schools, and Rushville Township with Rushville City form Rushville Community Schools. North and South units would have seven member boards, central unit three, with hearings set for July 12 after June 29 state committee briefing.

Mr and Mrs Ronald Gatewood of Carthage welcomed a daughter Saturday at Rush Memorial Hospital.
Mr and Mrs Charles Hoover of Indianapolis announced the birth of a son on Thursday morning June 21 1962 at Methodist Hospital. Grandparents are Mrs Ethel Collins of Carthage and Mr and Mrs Shirley Brown of Indianapolis.
The Carthage Band Boosters urge residents to support the High School Band with door to door canvassing on Thursday June 28 to raise funds for new uniforms. Dressed band members will seek contributions and appreciate donations from band parents and grateful townspeople. Betty Brooks, president.
Rush County receives 152 593 monthly in social security benefits to 2 451 people, up about 12 percent from last year. District Manager Giles W Garrett cites more eligible aged residents and lower credit requirements as causes while noting benefits assist local business and households in Rush, Fayette, Franklin, Union, and Wayne counties. Specific benefit totals by group are listed. other items report Mrs Roy Mayse of Goshen, formerly Bonnie Henley of Carthage, dies after two years of illness.
Glamorous queens, majorettes, and twirlers will headline the Indiana State Fair August 25 to September 5. Miss Indiana State Fair will be chosen August 25 in the Farmers' Building auditorium. County Fair queens entries due by June 30. High School Band Contest August 27 with top three bands awarded. Baton Twirling entries due July 14. Martha Ann Spry, 1961 Girls State Champion, hosts. 344 twirlers participated last year. Entry blanks available from the Special Events Department, Indiana State Fair, Indianapolis.
The Rush County Shorthorn Breeders Association hosts its annual picnic this Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tom McManus in Jackson Township. Located north of Rushville about 4 1/2 miles on State Road 3, the event is a pitch-in dinner starting at 1:00 p.m. Breeders and families with Shorthorn calves, 4-H members and parents are invited, and all should bring filled baskets and table service. A short business meeting follows the meal.
Roy E. Harrold reports Rush County May Savings Bond sales at 17089.00 versus 49681.00 the prior year. Indiana state May sales total 10621465.00 up from 10510155.00 in 1961, a 1.1 percent gain with 49 of 92 counties posting increases.
Inez Binford of Holland Virginia with her niece Lois Rabey and friend Mrs Goldie Mae Wright attended the National Meeting of United Society of Friends Women at Earlham Campus Richmond Indiana last week. The trio visited Carthage relatives before returning home after Friday sessions with Mildred Nigh and Mary Gray also in attendance.
Mr and Mrs Bill Windsor with two sons camped overnight Saturday at Whitewater State Park. Mr and Mrs Tom Murphy and daughter Connie joined them. Nearby, Mr and Mrs Roy Herkless and Mr and Mrs Donald Staten Sr attended a Jim Shelton program at Brownsburg Saturday evening.
The American Legion Post 316 held its June 13 1962 meeting at the Community Center. New officers for next year were elected: Gary Stewart Commander, Geo B McNabb Vice Commander Eugene R Gardner Adjutant and David Hull Finance Officer. They approved buying a uniform for the high school band for 71 dollars and giving 10 dollars to Gary Petry for Boys State. They discussed a municipal park site, may sponsor a bowling team, and noted Auxiliary plans for July 14 1962. The meeting adjourned until September.
The Fourth annual Rush County Fair Queen Contest will be July 26 in the Graham Annex Auditorium. Wayne Logan says 16 entrants last year. eligibility includes ages 16 to 21 and Rush County residency. Contestants judged on beauty and personality in three divisions with interview, must belong to a local organization, and be sponsored. winner goes to the State Fair.
Miss Jo Gray with her niece Karen Ann and nephew Mike Holliday of near Carmel were Tuesday guests of Mr and Mrs Paul Gray. Mr and Mrs Russell Roland also called on Mr and Mrs Frank Tinney Tuesday at their Charlottesville home.
Wilma Doris Davidson of New Castle Indiana planned to marry Michael Stanley Matta of Dayton Ohio. The couple announced with a Aug 18 ceremony at St Anne s church New Castle. Davidson a Carthage High School and Holy Cross Nursing graduate studied at St Mary s College South Bend and the University of Dayton. She works at Henry County Hospital New Castle. Matta a Chaminade High School and University of Dayton alumnus will enter Indiana University graduate school and works at the University of Dayton Research Institute.
At the June meeting the Carthage Volunteer Fire Department elected officers Frank Mourey as president John Nelson as vice president Bill Windsor as secretary and Allen Proctor as treasurer John Nelson was named township fire chief Don Campbell and Harold Davis were named assistant chiefs The department made two grass fire runs along the New York Central track south of Carthage one at Henry Jessup farm near 6 p m Friday and another at Donald Staten Sr farm on Saturday where sparks from the Big Four diesel started a blaze
Carthage built a 4 0 lead and never trailed Fairland as Fred Magee powered with a triple and two singles. Frank Mullins hit a homer for Fairland while Parrott and S Mullins added two doubles. Tague fanned six for Carthage. Olinger struck out seven for Fairland.
Florence Leisure Dorothy De Armond Frances Conway and Ruth Bowen were among 150 Indianapolis Art Center Artist Guild members at the exhibit preview and reception in the Hunters Lodge at the Marott Hotel. Leisure's Red Roses was among 30 paintings chosen from 100 entries for display.

Byron E. Smith principal of Fayette Central has resigned to accept the Carthage principalship in Rush County. He led Fayette County schools since 1946, coached at Everton and Orange, and held offices in educational groups. He and his wife live in Rushville with their three children.
The Methodist Conference appoints J. A. Wallace to Fletcher Methodist Church in Fletcher. Rev. J. P. Mayfield is moved from Carthage-Arlington to Guilford in the Columbus District. Dr. Charles Tyler is reassigned to oversee the Rushville District as superintendent.
Several people from the Westland community attended the Quaker National Meeting of the United Society of Friends held last Wednesday and Friday on the Earlham College campus. Attendees included Mrs. A. J. Carr Ada Chappell Mrs. Norman Edwards Mrs. Howard Henley Mrs. Omer Heim and Mrs. Earl Barrett with Mrs. Fred White joining from Wednesday to Saturday.
A parked car owned by Roy Small on North Main Street in Carthage was hit by a car driven by 17 year old Lawrence Conley of 204 North Market Street. The impact damaged both vehicles. Eugene Dudley, 34, of Carthage, was critically injured in a one car crash on Mays road east of Carthage, his vehicle a 1961 Mercury, found by Charles May. Dudley remained in critical condition with facial injuries, a possible cheekbone fracture, and internal injuries. investigators suspect sleepiness contributed to the crash.
