Tailholt Reunion to Welcome Rev J T Scull Speaker

Rushville pastor Rev. J T Scull will address Carrollton’s 23rd Tailholt Homecoming next Sunday June 30. Officers anticipate a larger turnout with as many as 300 attendees after wartime attendance declined. A noon basket dinner will be served at the community house and the Moral Township band of Shelby county will perform under the trees.

Mrs. Florence Parker learned Saturday of the death of her twin brother Clarence Macy in Canoga Park California near Hollywood. Macy was a retired funeral director.

Rev N I Schoolfield from Bedford and former Carthage pastor to First church Shelbyville. Rev Lee S Jarrett returns as Martins ee district superintendent and is retired. Lynch Interest In A L Market Sold

Mr and Mrs John Lynch sell their interest in the A and L Market to partner George Apple. They plan to transfer business to local City restaurant and reopen around July 15. The A L Market has been a Apple Lynch partnership for ten months after purchasing in August 1945 from Arthur Winfield who retired after 25 years. The restaurant was taken over from Robert Lynch who established it earlier this year. Remodeling and new equipment are planned. The restaurant will close June 29 and reopen July 15 with existing staff.

Latins group welcomed by Gov Gates at Indiana State House

Twenty seven highway engineers from sixteen Latin American countries and China were officially welcomed to Hoosierland by Gov Ralph F Gates in his state house office. Indiana's highway system was chosen for inspection by the group which also toured Indianapolis equipment plants. Two engineers will return for a practical Indiana based course in highway construction methods.

Undefeated Teams Lead Carthage Softball Week Four

In week four of Carthage Softball Recreational Leagues three teams remain undefeated. Wildcats boosted to six wins, American Legion and Farmers remain undefeated in the senior league with close wins. Tuesday and Wednesday drew crowds as Legion beat Truckers 8 4 and Farmers edged Container 6 5. Yankee high school pushed Westland and fell 10 9 after late rallies. Next week starts week five, completing the first round.

Death of Carey Hand noted Orlando mortician and civic leader

Carey Hand 67 of Orlando Florida died in his sleep after a two year heart ailment. A leading mortician and civic figure since 1907 he founded Children’s Day at the Central Florida Exposition and hosted thousands of local children. Survived by widow brother nephew and niece.

Local Girls In State Leadership Program 4H Confab

The closing sessions of the 4H club junior leadership conferences were held Saturday June 22 at Indiana Central College Indiana polis. Rush county delegates were Martha Small Clara Emily Rigsbee Dean Hodge and Robert Veatch. A total of 338 delegates from 91 counties attended the conference sponsored by the Indiana District of Kiwanis with Purdue University agricultural extension service.

Tenth District softball tourney draws Hagerstown bracket

The local team will face Richmond Post No 359 in Hagerstown on July 23 in the Tenth District tourney first round. Other matchups include Richmond No 65 vs New Castle and Fortville vs Hagerstown on July 24. After July 26 the bracket winners meet in a three game final for district honors.

Carthage Businesses Close July 4 Observance

Most business houses in Carthage will close all day Thursday July 4. The post office will open 9 a.m. to 5 30 p.m. with no rural delivery. The library and State Bank of Carthage will also be closed all day.

Dairy Tour Highlights Rush County Farms and 4-H Projects

The Rush County Dairy Improvement Association hosted its second annual dairy tour on Thursday June 20 drawing over fifty attendees including dairy farmers 4-H dairy club members and milk company representatives. Ten farms showcased Jersey Guernsey and Brown Swiss herds with demonstrations on milking equipment breeding and herd management followed by discussions led by local farm managers and Indiana Condensed Milk Company representatives.
