Jerry Gribbons was arrested in Rushville JP Court Wednesday after allegedly striking a parked car owned by Herb Fannin. He faced three counts including reckless driving no operator's license and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
The first wheat of 1965 arrived at Carthage Grain Co. brought in by Frank Alexander farms about two weeks early. It tested 62 percent per bushel with 12 percent moisture content.

Bill Windsor and Tom Pitts underwent tonsillectomies at Rush Memorial Hospital on Friday. Steve and Bobby May suffered a heart attack and remain serious at Madison State Hospital. Cards of cheer requested. Mrs. Russell Roland discharged after surgery at Henry County Hospital. Dave DeWitt Sr. shows improvement at Henry County Hospital. Arthur Bowden convalesces at home after hospital stay. Mrs. David Ray remains convalescent in Carthage. Mildred Grizzell admitted to Rush Memorial Hospital. Earl Herkless remains at home with family. Mrs. Flora Hunt hosted a dinner with the Hunt family.
Hubert Hunt and Roy Stanley of Carthage Methodist Church attended the Methodist Church Conference held last week at the First Methodist Church in Bloomington.
Miss Janice Petry daughter of Mr and Mrs Quinton Petry R R 1 Carthage attends Girls State this week representing the Carthage American Legion Auxiliary Unit 316. The Carthage Lions Club co sponsors Miss Petry.
Mr. and Mrs. Noah Magee of Orlando Florida attended the wedding of his granddaughter Miss Marilyn Pitts to Phillip Kemple in Indiana on Sunday. They will visit relatives and friends in Indiana for three weeks and stayed with Odell Pitts and family.
Mr and Mrs Wayne Draper moved last week from R1 Carthage to Arlington RR located on the Carthage Arlington pike.
Mrs. Forest Ragsdale of Franklin and her sister Mrs. Don A. Lamphear of Mexico visited Carthage and gave a cash donation for books to the Carthage Library in memory of Miss Mattie Clark former librarian. The donors are nieces of Miss Clark, who is deceased.
Mr and Mrs John Jackson of Carthage spent the weekend in Washington DC enjoying major landmarks including the Lincoln Memorial Jefferson Memorial White House Pentagon building Capitol Washington Monument Smithsonian Institute Wax Museum and National Archives Building They also crossed into Virginia to Arlington National Cemetery for a memorial visit.
A summer remedial reading program at Carthage High School reports strong attendance and interest. Instructor Mary Meloy Smeltzly leads two groups through word attack and recognition, vowel sounds, digraphs, and writing lessons with home reading encouraged.
Orville H. Porter 76 longtime Union Township farmer and Rush County former commissioner died at 11 45 pm Thursday at his home eight miles northeast of Rushville after a heart ailment. Born May 25 1889 in Jackson Township he moved to Union Township in 1934 and served on the county board 1940 1948. He raised turkeys, belonged to Plum Creek Christian Church and was a charter Rush County Farm Bureau member. Survived by widow Hazel Kiser Porter two sons Lawrence E Porter and Mark Porter two daughters Florence Linville and Helen Andrewson nine grandchildren and two brothers. Funeral conducted by Rev I T Rogers at Wyatt Moore Memorial with burial at Little Blue River Cemetery.

Nora W. Reeves 90 died at 12 15 am Friday at her Center Township home on Route 2 Carthage. Born June 4 1875 she was married Oct 17 1894 to Al Reeves who died Sept 6 1955. Survived by sister Ethel Brown daughter Lucille Reeves granddaughter Carolyn Wilson and five great grandsons. A son Lowell and an infant son preceded her in death.
Indiana’s 1965 wheat crop is estimated at 41,440,000 bushels as of June, down more than 10 million from 1964. Average yield expected at 35 bushels per acre versus 36.5 last year. Alfalfa hay 25 percent harvested, peach crop down 40 percent to 250,000 bushels, and May egg and milk production also trend lower.
Mr and Mrs Bill Robertson and their son hosted a noon Father’s Day dinner at Riley Park Greenfield for the Fletcher Edwards family and relatives. The event gathered relatives from the area for a family celebration.

Daughters Janet Crider and Saralee Stout hosted, with granddaughters Sherry and Sheryl Lynn assisting. the couple wed June 23 1915 in New Castle Indiana. They have three sons Harold Charles and Gerald and five grandchildren present along with many relatives and friends.
The 134th annual Indiana Methodist Conference in Bloomington approved a 1.6 million capital funds drive following a 1.5 million church extension campaign. Delegates ordained 53 men as deacons and elders, retired five veterans, and realigned the western boundary to transfer six churches to Northwest Indiana.

Rainfall in Rush County during May and April was near normal, based on 37 cooperators. May averaged 2.00 inches, April 6.85 inches. total April-May rain 8.85 inches, below 1964’s 11.58 and 1963’s 7.71. Rushville led with 10.35 inches April 1 to June 13, while Jackson 8.25 inches was the driest. Sponsored by the Rush County Better Crops Association and Extension Service.
Bishop Richard C. Raines announced 86 minister transfers at the Indiana Conference annual session. Virgil W. Sexton becomes superintendent of the new Indianapolis West District as the Indianapolis and Greensburg districts undergo reorganization. Charles W. Ballard leads Indianapolis East, Harold W. Criswell heads Greensburg, and several clergy move between Indianapolis Broad Ripple Evansville Trinity Broad Ripple Fairview Greensburg and other churches.
Fourteen members have joined the County 4H Electrical Club which offers ten divisions. On Tuesday night June 22, 1965 the group met at the Court House to work on projects slated for the upcoming local fair July 26 to 30. A Durbin Hotel banquet sponsored by Rush County REMC will honor members selected for state fair competition. Projects will be taken to the Court House July 13 at 8:00 p.m. for inspection before the trip to the local fair.
Carthage High cruised to an 8-4 win over Mays after taking a 5 run fourth inning. Zimmerman tripled and Rucker doubled for Carthage while Smith fanned nine for Mays. Netherly homered for Mays as the visitors batters tallied eight runs on the day.

The Carthage softball club fell 10-8 to Kettler's of Shelbyville on the local diamond despite 10 hits to 9 by Carthage. Kettler's bunched five hits for five runs in the first two innings, then Carthage moved ahead 6-5 in the third before the visitors pulled away. Batteries Kettler's Martin and R Green. Carthage Magee and McClurg.
Carthage defeated New Salem 84 on Friday on the winners' field. Rucker delivered the lone extra base hit with a triple. Carthage pitchers allowed three hits, eight strikeouts, and six walks. New Salem pitchers walked ten, fanned four, and yielded two hits.
A Greenfield license issued to Kenneth Lee McCorkhill and Amy Lee Kraft and a New Castle license issued to Roy W. Willey and Elizabeth A. Mills are recorded.

DePauw University in Greencastle launches a two week Preachers License School piloting a classroom based path to licensing. Thirteen Hoosiers enroll with lectures on theology church history and ministry practice. Faculty includes Revs Ralph Steele Gerald Jones and John L Carr with support from Indiana Methodist conferences. Richard Doughty of Carthage enrolls.
