Mr and Mrs Fred B White and Mrs Shields with children attended the wedding of Erma Thompson and Robert Wilson held Saturday at four o clock in Dayton Ohio.
Rev and Mrs Herman A Parker of Carthage return from a ten day vacation in North Carolina. They visited their son and family Mr and Mrs Robert J Parker and daughter Martha of Greensboro NC.
Miss Linda Harrold attended the Rush County 4 H Junior Leader Training Camp at Hassmer Hill Park Versailles from last Thursday to Sunday. The group aims to teach and direct county camps and assist with summer programs. Miss Judy Harrold will attend Junior Leader Conference this week at DePauw University Greencastle sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. Both are daughters of Mr and Mrs Richard Harrold Carthage Indiana.
Miss Mary Robertson daughter of Mr and Mrs Roy Robertson of Carthage and E4 Paul J Livingstone were married Tuesday June 14 by Rev Paul Mayfield of Carthage. Attendants were Mr and Mrs Max Robertson. They will reside at Camp LeJeune North Carolina.
The Senior MYF met Monday evening with president Jean nine Terhune opening the meeting. Lynn Kennedy gave the secretary's report. A motion was made to entertain the Trinity Church group July 17 at 6 p.m. A bike hike time was set. Pam Hunt led songs. Annalee Lynch presented a lesson titled Time. Benediction by Carolyn Miller, then adjournment to refreshments.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Whitfield and children Joe and Amy return home Friday from a week in their trailer at Whitewater State Park. Guests included Larry Johnson of Carthage and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Rector and son of New Castle.
Mr and Mrs Harold Taylor and their three children from Carthage came home last week after a two week vacation in Miami Beach Florida.
Rush Lodge 580 F and A M schedules a called meeting on June 25 1960 at 8 pm for work on the F C degree. Refreshments follow. Eugene R Gardner secretary and Lee Patton worshipful master approved notice.
Mr and Mrs Larry Apple relocate from Carthage to Walnut Grove Hamilton County after Apple accepts a post at Walnut Grove Consolidated School Don Robinsons rent the Apple home and will move in soon.
The Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of Carthage visited Victory Field Saturday night to watch the Indianapolis and Houston baseball game. Lions members Rich ard McNabb and Frank Hampton arranged the evening and chauffeured by bus with fathers and Lions helping. After the game the scouts were treated to refreshments on the way home.
Beverly Dixon Peale students stage their annual dance revue Friday night at the Community Center. The show runs from 8:00 p.m. Tickets available at the door or from any student. Pre school children admitted free. The public is invited.
Double funeral services held at Greenfield Chapel for Elmer George Yelton and his wife Cordelia Yelton both residents of 215 Grove Street Greenfield. They died within 24 hours of each other with Elmer passing Saturday afternoon and Cordelia Sunday evening. The Rev Bence Miller officiated with burials at Park Cemetery and Carthage Cemetery. Elmer born October 22 1891 in Ohio was survived by siblings and cousins. Cordelia born February 21 1900 lived in Carthage with a sister Lois Delaney and brother William Mattix among others.
Carthage defeated International of Rushville 7-0 to remain undefeated in the Arlington League. Russell struck out eight with one walk for Carthage, while Baker allowed five walks and no strikeouts for International. Sharpe had a double and single to pace International, and Little, Edwards, and Shutt contributed in the Carthage win.
Rush County ranked 46th among Indiana counties for primary turnout with 4 628 ballots cast representing 42.07 percent of registered voters. Democratic votes totaled 1 450 and Republican 3 178. Statewide 920 707 ballots were cast, 40.15 percent turnout, up over 1956 but down slightly from 1958. The Chamber cites off year drives and local races as turnout drivers.
Randy McClurg hosted a dinner at Hoosier Manor in Carthage for Mr. and Mrs. Marcus McClurg in their 25th wedding anniversary. Guests included Miss Patty Logan and Mrs. Gary McClurg. The couple were married June 22, 1935.
George W Offut age 58 died suddenly at his Arlington home at 11 25 a m Sunday. A native of Arlington he worked as a bookkeeper for Hutch neon and Son for years. Survivors include his widow a daughter Miss Carole Offut at home a son Ted Sat red Offut stationed at Bergstrom Air Base Austin Texas and his mother Mrs Margaret Offut of Arlington. Funeral services were held at 10 a m Wednesday.
Pam Hunt presented her students in a well attended dance revue last Friday night. Students included Mary Patton Craig Lafuse Mary Anne Messick Jennie Eoff Carol Ann Ellis Patty McCorkle Janice Blessinger Patricia Gorman Tres sie Clay Linda Brown Donna Carter Melinda Lafuse Lynette Stevens and Kimberly Tweedy. Guest entertainers were Jan Koonz Deb Lichtenfels Tommy Wilson Carol Bruener Jane Hunt guest soloist Jack Rhoades master of ceremonies and Janet Hunt accompanist. Pam will continue teaching tap and modern ballet.
Joe Stevens of Carthage shows slow but steady improvement at Rush Memorial Hospital after a heart attack a few weeks ago. his condition has stabilized and doctors report cautious progress.
Carthage Better Business Association members hosted a Monday dinner at Hoosier Manor with spouses and a short business session led by president Robert Winters. A downtown band concert committee was formed, including Arminta Ruby, Seanna Geise and Ruth Hunt, to plan events in the coming weeks.
Miss Barbara Wilson was guest of honor at a Wednesday bridal shower at East St. Christian Church hosted by Clara Jo Henley Susie Sandefur Bonnie Fannin Mardell Wrightsman and Janet French. aqua and white decorations and refreshments featured. prizes were awarded to Kathy Ruby Judy Kennedy and Mrs. Thomas Proctor. about 30 guests attended the social event.
Three Carthage students join the Elkhart University of Medical and Dental Technique class of June 16 in Indiana. Joe C. Foust and Orbie Don Fitch enroll in the Medical Laboratory and X ray Technician program. Bonnie Sue Howard enters the Medical Laboratory Technician course.
Mr and Mrs Forrest Moore travel Friday to Midwest City Oklahoma to accompany their grandchildren Susan and Stephen Moore on a family trip.
Walnut Ridge hosts a nine day revival from July 1 to 10 with services each night at 8 and a 7 30 prayer meeting in the East room. Evangelist Ora D Loveaul of Malone College Canton Ohio and presiding clerk of Ohio Yearly Meeting leads the preaching with song evangelists Mr and Mrs Eugene Collins of Mr Gilead Friends Meeting Ohio inviting all to attend.
In a busy week, the Rockets beat the Sluggers 19 to 6 as 14 hits fueled 19 runs. J Geise Sullivan led with three hits while H Edwards, S Back, R Back added two. The Sluggers managed six runs on five hits with A Porter collecting two hits. The Pros crushed the Yanks 29 to 15 with a 25 run fourth inning on six hits and 19 walks. G Back, C Lafuse, D Hunt led the Pros with multi hit games.
Carthage 5th 6th and Junior High swept Mays in a double header 28-0 and 7-0. S McClurg Lafuse and crew combined for 28 runs on 10 hits while Mo Field hit 2 home runs and a double. Lafuse also tripled with two singles. Zimmerman, Crisswell, Geise, and S McClurg added singles. Cliff Aker threw a no hit no run gem as Junior High won 7-0 with only two walks. Carthage pitchers and fielding delivered errorless defense.
Morristown defeated Carthage 13 to 5 after Carthage made 12 errors. pitcher Jon Smith allowed 6 hits and 1 walk while Carthage managed 4 hits. Patterson led with a triple and Larry Jordan added a double. Glen Smith and Marvin Heim had singles. Batteries were Smith and Gatewood for Carthage Hauk and Harris for Morristown. Line score shows Carthage 000 010 4 Morristown 200 470 x.
Mr and Mrs Odest Logan and Berniece visited their aunt Mrs Vivian Hamilton and family at Commisky. Hamilton accompanied them back to visit her brother Joe Stephens a patient at Rush Memorial Hospital. Ann Fitch Carl Foust Blackie Howard Larry Wrightsman joined Orbie Fitch Joe Foust and Bonnie Sue Howard at Elkhart University on Sunday to enroll as students.
The Kentucky boys defeated Indiana 95 76 at Butler Field House led by team play and strong defense though the article laments Indiana latterly and notes the sad death of Jimmy Bryan in Langhorne Pa. Mrs. Alice McNabb of Carthage was named an alternate to the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles starting July 11. Indiana's 11 districts each named six delegates and three alternates. alternates include Emmett Parrish of Richmond and Mary Rafferty of Shelbyville. Clarence McNabb of Fort Wayne was nominated for Supreme Court Justice.
Mrs. Wilma Heuer of Rushville entertained her parents Mr. and Mrs. Roy Turner for Father’s Day dinner at the Bluebird restaurant in Morristown.
The Rush County 4H Junior Leader club begins its 1960 community service project selling mailbox name signs to reduce mailbox confusion. Signs come in several styles and affordable prices. They will visit homes countywide and also offer desk and door markers. contact the County Extension Office or a club member for information.
Mrs Essie Bowling of New Castle dined with daughter and family. Roland family held a cooperative Father's Day dinner at Russell Roland's home. Ronald Roland absent due to hospital recovery. Many relatives from Wingate Avon Indianapolis Muncie Carthage Knightstown and other towns celebrated with meals and visits.
The County Sheriff's office reported two one car crashes Monday evening near Carthage. Richard A. Gorman 20 of Carthage was charged with reckless driving after his car left the roadway and was demolished with no injuries. Earlier Judy F. Jackson 15 of Knightstown skidded on gravel in Ripley Township, taking Pam Wainscott for a ride. Jackson had cuts and bruises while Wainscott suffered a bruised hip and back and the vehicle valued at $200 was damaged.
Rules for the 1960 Rush County Fair Queen Contest outline age limits from 16 to 21, unmarried status, and county organization membership. Entries due by July 10 with blanks published locally, judging by beauty, personality, and stage presence, and a July 24 contest date preceding the fair. Previous county winners are ineligible and professionals are excluded. Contestants must be in at least one local organization. Additional details from the committee or Extension Office.
