Rev. and Mrs. Herman Parker and Rev. and Mrs. Lewis May of Carthage attended the Indiana Yearly Meeting Minister's Short Course held at Dewart Lake Syracuse Indiana from Monday to Friday.
Mrs. Wm. H. Dixon and son Jerry visit her mother Mrs. Minnie Baril and brother Charles Baril in French Lick with Mr. and Mrs. Wm. S. Dixon at West Baden. Charles Dixon plans to start a 2½ year service in Hawaii in July.
Mr and Mrs Delmar Sipes and daughter Patricia and Mr and Mrs Caleb Marsh and daughter Judy returned home Saturday night from a week long fishing trip to Wisconsin.
Mr and Mrs Jesse Pitts and daughter Linda left yesterday to accompany their daughter and sister Mrs Jack Wessel and her children to their home in Ft Lauderdale Florida They plan to be gone three or four weeks
Chairman Everett W. Hester of the Rush County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee announced this week that the 1960 Wheat Marketing Quota Cards have been mailed. Wheat producers in Rush County are urged to check their mail for these cards.
Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Carr and Mrs. Ethel Reneger of Knightstown along with Mrs. A. W. Winfield returned home Tuesday from Syracuse New York after a five day visit with Jack Carr and his family as well as Mrs. Winfield's daughter and her family, Fred I. Doebber and sons Tom and Jon.
A. C. Hiatt and his friend Mrs. Clarabelle Fisher of Indianapolis were Sunday evening supper guests of his sister Mrs. Gouldie Kyser. Sharlee Kyser and Hattie Innis were weekend guests.
Carthage moved into undisputed first in the Arlington Softball League by defeating Fairland 11 to 1, aided by a six run sixth inning. Shelco beat Glenwood 2–0 to keep pace as Carthage benefited from doubles by B McCorkle M McCorkle and R Magee and a homer by F Magee.
In a rain marred week the 5th and 6th graders beat Manilla 12 to 9 and 13 to 1 as Craig Lafuse allowed four hits but 17 walks. Maefield led with three hits including a homer, a triple and a single while Carthage used strong bats. The Jr Hi won 13 to 1 behind Cliff Akers in a lopsided win.
The Rush County Queen Contest extends the applicant deadline to July 10 per co chairs Joe Pike and J W Redden. Past participants may reapply except the previous county winner Caroline Cross who helps this year. The Sunday event will crown a winner who receives awards and gifts. the winner will represent Rush County Fair at the Indiana State Fair.
Rush County Board OKs a county wide drive to raise 40 000 for eight agencies including Agriculture Scouts Red Cross Salvation Army U S O and Youth Foundation. A publicity brochure will be distributed and a film by Boy Scouts leader Ed Liljeblad was shown to instruct township and city drive crews.
Mr and Mrs Rex Edwards and son Jeff attended a Sunday pitch in at the home of Mr and Mrs Robert Milligan in Clermont Indiana. Jack Moore and family of Pendleton visited Mrs Lillian Moore and then Mr and Mrs John Gordon in Raleigh. The Murnan reunion was held at Wallace Weber’s home in Charlottesville with several families present including the Webers. Leo Whitfield and family left Austin Indiana after a weeklong visit with their son Billy Whitfield and Mrs Ed Wells. Lowell Leisure visited her mother Mrs Frank Gray in Greenfield. Miss Sue Leisure stays with Mr and Mrs Mile Eaks in Greenfield while Miss Connie Leisure visits Cincinnati with her sister Mrs James Mosier and family.

Mrs Allie Burton 88 lifelong Rush County resident died Saturday at daughter Mrs Jesse Fry Rushville. She belonged to Hannegan Christian Church. Survivors include daughter sister two brothers three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Services conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Butcher Funeral Home Knightstown residence burial Glen Cove Cemetery Knightstown.
County Extension Office urges farmers to clean and treat grain bins before harvest to prevent infestations. Trials at Rush county oat plots on July 6 feature G P Walker and demonstrations at Hartman and Kinnett farms with eight oat varieties each.
State Sen. Richard O. Ristine won the second spot on the Republican ticket joining Lt. Gov. Crawford F. Parker who was unopposed for governor. Robert E. Hughes won the treasurer nomination on the first ballot defeating Peters and Black. Charles Hendricks won the secretary of state race on the second ballot. Philip H. Wilkie easily captured the superintendent of public instruction nomination. Willkie urged stronger academic standards and targeted school funding toward teachers and books.
The 129th annual Indiana Conference closed with nearly 800 delegates voting to allocate 75 000 dollars for a new conference headquarters in Bloomington designed by William J. Strain. The project will house the Interboard Council and treasurer’s office, with Mount Auburn Church awarded Rural Church of the Year for town and country work. Retirement honors and new elders and deacons were announced alongside findings from Boston University on church tenure and turnover affecting pastors and members.
Carthage Band Booster organization will start a Community Birthday Calendar project on July 19. Residents may have their names printed on their birth date with a 25 cent listing fee and families may buy calendars for 1.00. Proceeds fund new band uniforms and the effort aims to boost community spirit.
The Golden Dawn Farm of Ripley township owned the high selling Angus steer at Indiana’s Second Annual Hoosier Beef Show. Sold Tuesday June 21 to Stop and Shop Co of Indianapolis at 59 cents a pound, among 85 steers entered. Golden Dawn also placed two more top ten finishers. Duane Newhouse of Jackson township placed fifth with a heavy weight Hereford in a 19 head class, selling for 29 cents per pound. Carcasses were shown Tuesday evening June 28 at Hygrade Packing Co.
