Mrs Finley Smith entertained 25 of 28 Carthage graduating class members at a country home dinner last Tuesday evening. Attendees viewed slide pictures of the prom and graduation and enjoyed old home movies from the class’s 3rd and 6th grade years brought by Miss Pam Hunt.
Eight local Cub Scouts, from a group that no longer exists, spent last Thursday at the Knightstown pool then went to the home of Mrs. Betty Edwards for a wiener roast aided by Mrs. Bonnie Chew. The group included Mark Carson, Mike Joseph, Mike Chew, Skipper Edwards, Max DeWeese, Bobby Alter, Dewayne Ray, Chuck Henley and Sherry Chew.
The Little Blue River Church of Christ announces revival sermons for the remaining week. Friday features The Hiss in the Serpent's Tale, Saturday The Greatest Gamblers in the World, Sunday morning Compel Them To Come To My Feast, and Sunday night Pulling Them Out of the Fires of Hell. Evening services begin at 8 p.m.
Miss Marilyn Doversberger of Kokomo, 13, granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Fay Burkher of Carthage R A, starred at a piano recital June 12 at Kokomo First Baptist Church. A Sherwood Music pupil under Frederick Heinmiller, she performed works by Bach Beethoven Chopin Mendelssohn and Von Weber plus two originals Waltz Petite and Little Monotony, with her grandparents in attendance.
Five children from Walnut Ridge Church attend church camp this week at Dewart Lake. They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Tommy O Neal. Attendees include Walter O Neal Lynn Ray Tommie Blessinger Phil ip Campbell and Jackie Stevens.
Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Draper and Mr. and Mrs. Walter McMahan enjoyed a short vacation from Tuesday to Thursday evening at Lake Freeman in Monticello Indiana.
Mr and Mrs Odell Pitts and family arrive back in Carthage Monday evening after a twelve day trip to Daytona Beach and Miami Florida and vacation time spent there.
The WSCS of Carthage Methodist Church announces a public fish fry for Saturday June 30 with details to follow in this paper.
Mr and Mrs Lyle Plank will construct a two story residence on Knightstown road south of their current site next to the Jack Morrow home with completion aimed by August 1. They have sold their existing house to Bill Muir.
Mrs Leah Coons of Rushville and Mrs Hugh Weber of Carthage attended the Spring Meeting at the Claypool Hotel in Indianapolis last Friday. The event was hosted by the Federation of Democratic Women's Clubs with members from Indiana communities present.
Mrs. Paul Mayfield and children of Carthage and Mrs. Nancy Mayfield of New Albany attended James Paul Mayfield's graduation Friday evening at the Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis.
Mrs. Ann Stager and her brother Timothy Gilmartin of Carthage accompanied Mrs. Lillian Coleman to her Knightstown home last Thursday from Miami Florida where she had spent the winter months. Mrs. Stager and Mr. Gilmartin enjoyed a two weeks visit in Florida.
Twenty eight Carthage High School girls tour Chicago with Mr. and Mrs. Jackson. They ride subways visit the Museum of Science and Industry, Lincoln Park Zoo, and Marshall Field and Company, then learn city life and culture during the YMCA trip.
Mrs Rue McDaniel is slowly improving at Community Hospital Indianapolis after major surgery last Thursday. She is housed in room 531-W as she recovers.
The Rush County field day for small crops will visit wheat and oats variety plots on June 18. Purdue Extension agronomist Marvin Swearingin will attend and discuss varieties at each plot. Stops include the Ralph Davis Deano Thomas farm near Ging and farms of John Mills Jackson School and Arthur Hensley along State Road 244.
James Paul Mayfield minister of Carthage Fletcher Methodist Church was among graduates at Christian Theological Seminary Indianapolis commencement. He earned the Bachelor of Divinity degree after receiving a B A from Asbury College in 1955 during a 7 30 p m service Friday.
Container Corporation of America held a dinner on Wednesday evening June 6, 1962 at the Durbin Hotel for the Maintenance Group, which has completed three years without a lost time accident. Group leader Ralph McClarnon led twenty one employees who were awarded a steel tape engraved with a green cross safety emblem.
Mr and Mrs Leonard Jackson and Mr and Mrs Paul Jackson of Carthage attended the commencement exercises at Ball State Teacher's College. Mrs Alma Reddick of Mays and Victor Kerlin of Lapel also attended. Miss Maryin Jackson of Carthage was among the graduates.
The Miner Family reunion took place Sunday June 10 at Sunset Park Knightstown with thirty members represented. Relatives came from Illinois New Castle Knightstown Anderson and Carthage. Carl Morrow Knightstown was elected president and Helen Harvey Mooresville secretary measurer for next year.

The Carthage Brotherhood and Sisterhood will meet at the Carthage Community Center on Monday June 18. This notice invites members and interested residents to attend the event.
The 4H Needletwisters Club of Ripley Township met Monday June 11 at 1 p.m. in the school Home Ec Room with 22 members present. Pledges were led by Lorinda Miekush and Mary Patton, with Judy Fannin directing group singing. Demonstrations covered cake making clothing crafts pie and salad, given by listed members. The next meeting is scheduled for July 2 1962 in the Home Ec Room.

Mr and Mrs William Robertson of Salinas California announce the birth of an 8 lb 3 oz son on June 11 1962 The infant is the grandson of Mr and Mrs Roy Robertson and Mr and Mrs Fletcher Edwards of Carthage.
Mrs Delmer Sipes and Mrs Frank Hampton represented the Carthage American Legion Auxiliary at the 10th district meeting held Tuesday at the Gaston Indiana Legion Home.
The 1960 Census of Housing counts 6534 housing units in Rush County Indiana. Of these 4741 are in sound condition with all plumbing and 6089 are occupied. Owner occupied housing totals 3924 while 2165 are rented. Median value of owner occupied homes is 8000 and median gross rent for rentals is 65. Most homes have running water and flush toilets with 5376 and 5353 respectively.
Heavy weekend rain slowed river fishing statewide while lakes and pits stayed clear and productive. In southwestern Indiana streams ran muddy with limited catch from cut bait and minnows. Clearwater lakes produced crappies on golf tees and bluegills at Cataract Lake. Southeastern Indiana saw muddy streams and poor fishing, but several clear lakes yielded bluegills, redears, and mud cats with night crawlers. Central Indiana reported muddy streams and poor fishing though Mansfield and Morse Reservoirs stayed clear with crappies and bass on jigs and minnows. Northeastern Indiana streams were murky and poor, yet lakes remained clear with large gill and crappie catches. Sand Lake and Sylvan, Atwood Lakes fed by minnows and worms. Northwestern Indiana streams were muddy with fair fishing and notable catfish from shad gut and night crawlers. Willow Slough area described as pretty good.
Mr and Mrs Albert Terhune and family attended the Taylor University commencement Saturday morning where their son James Terhune graduated among the graduates.
Gary Petry a Carthage High School senior has been named delegate from Carthage Legion Post to Boys State at Bloomington Indiana starting June 16 and ending June 23 James Stevens is the alternate selection
Miss Maryin L. Jackson and John Kirby Overman of Carthage were among graduates in the college's largest ceremony in 44 years. Both earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Education at the 4 p.m. commencement on the Arts Building south terrace. The Symphonic Wind Ensemble, directed by F Earl Dunn, gave a pre commencememt concert.
Manuel's Market marks a decade in Carthage with a 10th Birthday Sale this week. Mr and Mrs Lloyd Manuel arrived in Carthage ten years ago this month as a feature advert appears on page 4.
The Mixed Doubles League opened its summer season Tuesday night with teams led by The Dubs and Dandy Doubles among eight entries. Scores listed include team highs for three games and single games, with notable performances by C Ruby and B Edwards.

Mr and Mrs Thomas Gorman with children Mike Ramona and Diana left May 26 for a westward vacation touring Wisconsin Minnesota North Dakota Montana Utah Nevada Arizona New Mexico and Oklahoma. They visited relatives at Marinette and Duluth toured Crystal Falls Iron Mine Edgewater Resort Yellowstone Zion Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam saw bears in the wild and stopped at Will Rogers Memorial and Davis Gun Collection before returning home.
Mrs Noah Brooks will host the Kappa Kappa sorority meeting Tuesday June 19 at her home with Mrs Kenneth Land 3 as co host.
