Miss Judy Kennedy daughter of Mr and Mrs Raymond Kennedy was admitted Friday and underwent major surgery Saturday. Her room number is B 324.
Mrs. Ralph Pearson and Mrs. Liam Coleman of Rushville returned home last Friday from Miami Florida. They traveled with friends on a three day trip to the Grand Bahama Islands for enjoyment.
Roy T. Robertson Jr son of Mr and Mrs Roy Robertson of Carthage received a Certificate of Training from the Unit of Drafting School at Columbus Indiana for completing 480 hours of drafting instruction March 18 to June 7 He will remain employed with Cummins Engine Co at Columbus.
Mrs. Wilbur Gatewood had a tonsillectomy at Rush Memorial hospital on Monday. Butch Bramel injured his right arm in a tire blowout at Dieckbrader's Garage and was treated at Henry Co. hospital. Billie Jean Henley returned home from Methodist hospital on crutches and will go back July 9. Larry Nelson injured his right eye and had X-rays at Rush Memorial hospital. Duane Grocox underwent tonsil removal at Rush Memorial hospital. Mrs. Joel Ridlen remains at Robert Long hospital in Indianapolis. Mrs. Royce Joseph had surgery at St. Vincent Hospital Indianapolis. Mrs. Elmer Kline and son Rex had tonsillectomies at Rush Memorial today.
Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Shepherd of Indianapolis welcomed a 7 pound daughter born at Community hospital Monday morning. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Lon McCorkle. Howard Harris and Carthage R. R. parented a daughter at Rush Memorial hospital Monday. John Gordon and wife welcomed daughter Elizabeth Jayne at Rush Memorial hospital Monday. she weighs 7 pounds 12 ounces and is granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Moore and Mrs. Elsie Gordon near Raleigh. Lowell Brooks and wife have a son Kevin Douglas, 9 pounds 14 ounces, born Monday at Rush Memorial hospital.
Mr and Mrs Billy H Small and children from Pico California arrived in Carthage Tuesday afternoon to stay two weeks with relatives and friends at the home of Mrs Rachel King.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Carroll and their family will depart Sunday for a week long vacation at Lake Shafer, where they will stay at a local resort and enjoy the lakeside retreat.
Mr and Mrs Charles Whitfield attended a 10th district Rural Letter Carrier association meeting and dinner at Milton Saturday evening Rev Frank Guyatt showed pictures and narrated for the meeting which was most interesting
Mrs Willard Cox of Indianapolis daughter of Mr and Mrs Earl Addison has entered St Francis Hospital for major surgery this Friday Addison is spending a few days in Indianapolis
Garden Club members and friends gathered at the Henry Henley Public Library lawn last Thursday morning to trim trees and shrubs and plant a variety of flowers. Librarian Mrs. Nelle Beher and the library board extend thanks to all who helped promote the project and enhance the library grounds.
A vacancy at the Carthage Post Office was declared by the Postal Inspector and acting postmaster Ercel Bever Jr. sworn in last Friday. Porter, appointed in 1951 by President Truman, was removed by order from Washington with Bever named on the recommendation of Congressman Harvey and local Republicans.
A fundraising effort in Carthage raised the majority of funds to buy a two way radio for Marshal Hugh Trowbridge to aid police work and maintain contact with county sheriffs and state police. The radio will become town property and be used by the marshal while in office. Donors include Frank Alexander, Hoosier Local No 415, Lions Club, State Bank of Carthage, several local businesses, and numerous individuals contributing amounts from 1.00 to 25.00.
Army Specialist Third Class Henry F. Ulrey, son of Mrs. Dorothy Ulrey of Carthage Route 1, earned a U S A F high school equivalency certificate in Germany through the USAF GED program. Ulrey, 29, of the 10th Infantry Division, entered service in 1946 and last stationed at Camp Atterbury Indiana after attending Charlottesville High School.
Mr and Mrs Ralph Kirkham of South Bend visited Mr and Mrs William Nelson and family over the weekend. Hubert Hill has moved to the former Grace ey property on Market Street this past week.

Dean Gardner, son of Mr and Mrs Eugene Gardner, fractured right arm just above the wrist in a Tuesday fall from a horse while aiding farm work. He was taken to Henry County hospital for setting the bone and returned home on Wednesday.
Lt. Comdr. Lee Patton of the Naval Reserves came home Saturday after completing a two week course in Naval Administration at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station.
Fifty six members and guests attend a pitch in dinner meeting led by president Hubert Hunt. Secretary Rowena Silver reports, Russell Fort directs the program with musical numbers by David Ruby Pam Hunt Jim Ellis and Darlene Cox. Rev Frank Guyatt presents color films on Hawaii Fiji and New Zealand from his Olympic trip to Australia.
The Carthage Wesleyan Methodist Church and Sunday School held a Tuesday evening picnic at Memorial Park in New Castle. The Indiana Conference of the Methodist Church admitted nine ministers to retirement and seven men on trial for the ministry. Edward Aldrich, Sullivan. Mearl Culver, Evansville. Edwin Shake, Madison. Also added on trial were Mark Beemer, Bloomington. Chester L. Davis, Carthage. William Fair, Gleton. Marion Gaston, Chandler. Joseph Newton II, Greenville. Clyde Weke, Pittsboro. Glenn Youngblood, DePauw. Ordination for the seven new ministers will be Sunday. Eleven probationary ministers were welcomed into full connection.
John E. Davis of North Market Street Carthage was slated to appear before Justice of Peace Lon McCorkle this Thursday June 20 for reckless driving. Davis was charged with reckless driving on North Main Street in Carthage last Thursday at 7 p.m. by Marshal Trowbridge.
Mrs Lwise Morris, a senior, is enrolled in a summer course at Butler University. She pursues additional study during the break.
Allen D. Wood and Miss Mary Pike wed Sunday June 16 at 2 30 p m at East Street Christian Church Carthage in a double ring ceremony. The bride daughter of Cecil Pike and the groom son of Carlton Wood of Palos Heights Illinois. Both graduates Purdue May 1957. Wood to enter Army as a commissioned Second Lieutenant in August.
Thomas M. Gross 78 a retired fence building contractor died at 8 40 p m Sunday at the Rushville home of his daughter Mrs Bernard Montgomery 320 East Ninth Street after illness He was born April 13 1879 in Franklin County a son of Anderson and Phoebe Young Gross Survived by six daughters Mrs Stella Rawlings Rushville Mrs Helen Jones Florida Mrs Marie Kennedy Fairland Mrs Paul McCorkle Carthage Mrs Myrtle McCorkle Rushville and Mrs Jack Wager Mays a son Virgil Gross near New Salem a brother George R Gross Gonnersville 18 grandchildren 20 great grandchildren Funeral services were held by Rev Myron Taylor at 10 a m Wednesday in Master and Sons Mortuary with burial at East Hill Cemetery.
The M Y F of Fletcher Methodist Church and chaperons traveled by bus to Indianapolis Friday for a showing of The Ten Commandments at the Lyric Theatre. Twenty six attendees are named including Deanna Carroll Carol Carver Barbara Foust Sue Mosier and others with additional adults Stan Lynch Hubert Hunt Paul Jackson and Charles Mosier listed as attendees.

Roy G. Beckner 65 prominent Jackson Township farmer was found dead Monday morning on a road at the rear of his farm six miles north of Rushville. Heat may have caused a heart attack per County Coroner Dr. Robert Johnson. Beckner born December 2, 1893 in Posey Township. survived by wife Grace Trowbridge, daughter Mrs Raymond Bosse of Lexington Ky, his father and stepmother, four brothers Carl Loren Beckner Albert and Ora Beckner, one sister Mrs Flossie Linville. Services held 10 a m Thursday at Wyatt Memorial Funeral Home Rushville. burial East Hill Shrine Mausoleum.
Rush County Junior Leaders traveled June 11 for a four day training conference at DePauw University. Representatives Ruth Boyer Marylu Becht Wanda Earnest Don White Robert Harrold Esther McCloud Freida Grubbs from Rush County earned the trip for leadership and 4-H achievement. Kiwanis Club of Rushville sponsored the trip. upon return they will present a program at the Kiwanis Club and be guests for one evening.
Principal Charles Morris and Mrs. Morris hosted a Sunday gathering at their home for about forty Central Normal College athletes teachers and their families. It was the third annual meet and social for the group with next year's meeting to be held on the campus due to larger attendance.
Mr and Mrs Gary Steward of Carthage spent a few days last week at Bay City Michigan and stopped at Detroit on their return home to see the Yankees and Tigers game. Mr and Mrs Edward Brown and family were weekend guests of Mr and Mrs Roscoe Brown. Philip Brown remained for a week's vacation. Carol Fraze returned to her home at Ft Wayne.
Donald Mann of Lucerne California and formerly of Carthage died after three heart attacks and a sudden collapse Saturday at Lakeside Hospital Lakeport California. He was born September 19 1912 in Shelby County and survived by his widow Jane a son Donald Richard his mother Myrl Mann a brother Eugene and a sister Mrs Robert Talbert. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. at Thompson Hampton Funeral Home Carthage with Rev Basil Stultz officiating and burial at Arlington East Hill Cemetery.
Rush County Hereford Breeders announce the annual picnic moves to Sunday June 23 at the Kinnett home in Anderson township with a noon dinner.
