Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Martin of Bloomington Illinois visit Mrs. John Rasor at Mrs. Alberta Miekush home and also call on Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Porter and their sons in Carthage during the week.
The Carthage Lions Club holds a fish fry on Friday and Saturday June 24-25 at an unspecified venue. Proceeds benefit club projects and local service activities.
Fire department fought a garage and workshop blaze at Maurice Lukens residence last Saturday around 10 30 am causing extensive damage to workshop and tools. Sgt 1st Class and Mrs Robert Gard of Lawton Oklahoma welcomed a son Marvin Douglas born Thursday June 9 grandson of Mrs Carrie Mourey of Carthage.
Mr and Mrs Tives Fitch and children with Mr and Mrs Orba Fitch and son Mr and Mrs Uni Fitch and guests Mr and Mrs Everett Sherwood of Brookville spent Sunday fishing and picnicking near Milton Indiana. Mr and Mrs Sherwood were weekend guests of Mr and Mrs Uni Pitch.
East St. Christian Church will present its Bible School program Sunday June 19 at 7 PM. A fellowship hour with refreshments follows and good attendance is desired.
Mr and Mrs William Alexander and their children along with Mr and Mrs Joseph Alexander were at Victory Field in Indianapolis on Saturday night to watch the Indianapolis Indians play Portland.
Mr and Mrs Jesse R Williams and children of Carthage visited Elkton Kentucky from Monday to Thursday last week due to the death of Mrs Williams grandfather Robert Lee Johnson. They attended the funeral on Wednesday and Sandra Williams daughter 11 remained for a two week visit.
Craig Lafuse of Ripley Township has been named a state 4-H scholarship recipient for the fall. State Leader Mr. ae B. Taylor confirmed the award which includes automatic fee exemptions when enrolling in Purdue University School of Agriculture. Rush County Extension Office and the state 4-H Office congratulate Craig on this outstanding achievement.
Mrs Forrest Beck and Mrs Rachel King attended the 10th district American Legion Auxiliary meeting at the Greenfield Legion Home. District officers elected include Wanda LaBoyteaux New Castle president Dorothea Birch Greenfield 1st vice Elnora Wendell Farmland 2nd vice Vivian Loser Gaston treasurer Dorthy Cortner Knightstown chaplain Vera Wordinger Yorktown historian.
Mr. Bayard Baker of Carthage spoke Saturday to Pendleton's Woman's Saturday Club at Mrs. Fred Taylor's home. His topic for the afternoon was Indiana.
The Carthage Merchants dropped an 8 to 4 extra inning defeat to the Tab All Stars of Indianapolis after tying 4-4 in the ninth. Edwards was ruled out on a disputed play at third, and Tab scored four runs in the 11th to pull away as Carthage finished with eight hits. Batteries: Tab Henry Schneider, Carthage Tague Stewart and R Magee.
Carthage topped Greensburg by 41 as Stewart pitched a two hitter. Beagle hit a first inning homer and the City Cigar Store faces Carthage at 7 p.m. then meets Columbia in the second contest. Score by innings shows Greensburg 0 0 0 1 3 0, Carthage 0 0 0 1 3 0 4.
Miss Pam Hunt earned a degree from the Jordan College of Music at Butler University last Sunday. She belonged to the Half-Time Honeys in her freshman year and was later in Spurs, Chimes, and the Butler Ballet Company. She made the Dean's List in her junior and senior years and plans to study in Chicago this summer. Her parents attended Baccalaureate and Commencement and hosted a buffet luncheon afterward.
Miss Perisho daughter of Mr and Mrs Clarence Perisho of North Mankato Minnesota accompanied by Mr and Mrs Tom Shields of Carthage to Carthage for a family visit. She travels to New York City then London and will join an Earlham College Foreign Study group in Berlin for the summer. She plans Vienna then return to Earlham in December.
A piano recital by students of Mrs Rowena Silver Holliday is set for next Tuesday night June 21 at 8:00 p.m. in the Charlottesville Gym. The public is invited. Participants include Joyce and Melody Shel.
Kellis Veach son of Mrs. How ard Windsor of Carthage received a B S degree in Business from Indiana University during the Monday June 13 commencement. He is a 1960 Carthage High School graduate and works in accounting at Western Electric in Indianapolis. President Elvis J. Stahr presided at a 10 am outdoor ceremony in the new football stadium where 4 853 graduates received degrees.
The 10th District of Indiana Volunteer Firemen will meet at Adams Fire Station on Wednesday June 22 for officer elections. Allen Blades District Secy.
Mr and Mrs Norman Edwards and daughters Maryin and Ruth of Carthage returned from a twelve day Colorado trip. They stayed with Mrs Edwards sister Miss Pauline Hill in Denver and hosted visitors Mr and Mrs Terrill of Denver. The group recalled a joyful day with Mr and Mrs Basil Hedgecock, formerly Carthage residents, in Idaho Springs near Denver.
The family attended the funeral of Mrs. Richard Marie Hill of Wilkinson held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Condo Funeral Home. Mrs Hill had long failing health. survived by husband and 5-year-old son Billy, plus two brothers. Burial followed at Glencove Cemetery in Knightstown.

The Big Blue River watershed project in Henry and Rush counties won approval from the Army Corps of Engineers and other federal agencies. Plans include 32.8 miles of channel clearance, seven flood control structures, two flood control dams, a recreation dam north of New Castle, and a 43 000 acre park with camping for 500, picnicking for 2 500, swimming for 1 200, and a boat dock for 650. Roudebush said final Congress action awaits Department of Agriculture review and Bureau of the Budget consideration.

The third 4-H Personal Development meeting was held Friday June 10 at 1 30 p m in the Credit Building, with Home Demonstration Leader Training on The Use of Accessories. About 45 members attended. 4 H Trial Judging occurred Monday June 13 at Belle Gregg School with Arts and Crafts and Food Preservation judging sessions. Junior and adult leaders assisted. A Sunday outing featured a picnic at the Gorman residence on the Muscatatuck River near North Vernon.
The House Republican Policy Committee debated raising the public debt limit to 330 billion dollars and extending Food for Peace style surplus food programs. The panel supported the Food for Freedom Act of 1966 while opposing the debt increase. A summer intern program selected Max L. Moser of Ball State University for the Tenth District office. Earlham College earns 28500 dollars for its East Asia Language and Area Center under Public Law 85-864.
The eighth annual Rush County Fair Queen Contest will be held July 21 in Rushville Memorial Gymnasium. Eligible entrants are Rush County residents aged 16 to 21 who are unmarried and have never married. Contestants must join a local organization and will be judged on beauty and personality in three divisions.
Mrs James Neal and Clarence Batson of New Castle accompanied Mary Louise Neal to Community Hospital for x rays. Elizabeth Jayne Gordon of Rushville was released from Riley Hospital Indianapolis and convalescing at her grandparents Carthage home. Lynn Ray remains in Carthage recovering from injuries. Mrs Anna Brown remains a patient at Rush Memorial Hospital. Mrs Flora Hunt is about the same at Jackson Nursing Home. Miss Judy Kennedy remains a patient at St Vincent s Hospital Indianapolis in room 218.
Rev. Paul Turner and wife with families from Garden City South Dakota and Morristown visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. Roy Turner in Morristown. Turner accepted a new pastorate at Belle Fourche South Dakota to begin late July. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Hollis Heuer of Rushville and Mr. and Mrs. David McIntosh and son of Marion Indiana on Tuesday evening.
Gene Patterson left Monday for basic training at Ft Leonard Wood Missouri for the National Guard. He will have six months training. Dick Patterson in Berlin Germany reports a promotion to Specialist Fourth Class. Jim Ellis left this week for basic army training at Ft Knox Kentucky.
