Local Scouts to Attend Lake Wehi Camp in July
Seven scouts from Carthage and Arlington Troops 26 and 28 will attend the Lake Wehi Boy Scout camp near Pershing Indiana. Scoutmaster John De Schipper and Lee Silver lead the groups with plans for swimming boating fishing hikes crafts rifle shooting and rank advancement. Over 350 scouts from Randolph Wayne Fayette Union Rush and Franklin counties have registered for weeklong or longer stays this season.

4-H Round Up At Purdue Draws Rush County Youth
A large turnout of 4-H boys and girls from Rush county attended a three day round up at Purdue University this week. The Ripley township livestock judging team included Philip Winslow Bill Spacey Lawrence Apple and Clifton Howard. Donald Stoten Jr a 4-H member also attended.

Use tax stamps go on sale for 1942 fiscal year
Postmaster Sam O McCarty announces auto use stamps available at the local post office for the 1942 fiscal year beginning July 1. About 500 stamps expected to be sold, with 800 already sold after a prior tax imposition. Stamps are serially numbered and gum on the face with space for vehicle make model serial and state license. Collector Will H Smith urges buying by July 1 1942 and notes stamps aid gasoline rationing ID. To prevent loss or theft dampen windshield not stamp, and record the serial number for identification.

Defense Unit Formed for Ripley Township
At a Friday meeting at the State Bank of Carthage residents organized a defense unit to work with the national war emergency setup. The township was divided into five sections with eight northeast team leaders including Albert Terhune and Sha ron Hunt. Northwest leaders include John Gates and Donald Ruby. southeast leaders Milt Gardner and Floyd Reddick. southwest leaders Carl Hardin and H H Bentley. 4-H Team Wins Judging Honors at Purdue
The Rush County general livestock judging team led by Phillip Winslow Max Hunt Billy Spacey and Clifton Howard won the State 4-H Club Roundup Livestock Judging contest at Purdue with 2128 of 2400 points earning a Kingan and Co trophy. Individual honors went to Winslow 4th 719 of 800 Hunt 7th 714 Spacey 11th 695. The team also took top honors in horses 502 of 600 earning another Kingan trophy, placed second in sheep 548, tied for third in beef cattle 540 and were sixth in swine 548. Coached by Cedric Power.

Indianapolis reports the fifth selective service registration will occur June 30 for men born between January 1 1922 and June 30 1924. Col Rob inson Hitchcock says 113 000 registrants can be processed in one day. Registration runs 7 am to 9 pm at local boards or any center if away from home.

Newsom Woman Injured Returning Milk Bottle
Mrs. Jesse Newsom sustained painful injuries last week in Ninveh after tripping and breaking a milk bottle. The cut on her right arm required seven stitches and four on the left. The Newsoms have been in Ninveh the past month while Mr. Newsom works in Edinburg.

Arnold Duke 38 died at 1 30 a m from a second heart attack at his home in Knightstown He was born to Mr and Mrs Curtis Duke of Kokomo and survived by his widow Alma a son Charles his parents and a sister in Kokomo The family lived in Carthage for six years where he worked for Container Corp He later moved near Mooresville and then Knightstown Funeral services were held Wednesday at Wright Funeral Home Kokomo with burial in Kokomo cemetery.
