Former Carthage Girl Injured in Bridge Crash
Miss Irene Hileman of Rushville and formerly of Carthage was seriously injured when a car carrying three others crashed into a wooden bridge east of Rushville. Hileman suffered a severe cut to the left limb and head injuries. Marie Leaveall and Kenneth Reed had minor cuts. Roger Meshburger escaped with minor injuries. Leaveall lost control, crashing into the bridge, which was damaged. Hileman was treated at home before being moved to City hospital.

Mays Man Hurt After Panama Plane Crash
Lt. Donald Benner formerly of Mays, an army air pilot, crashed in Panama after a motor failure. He and others bailed out as the plane fell from 2000 feet. two were killed, two injured, Benner survived with a fractured shoulder and crushed bone, after walking fifteen miles to safety. He is son of Bert Benner of Mays and married to Mrs. Allison’s family.

Churches Plan Daily Vacation Bible School

Carthage Town Board Approves Water Works Contract
Carthage Town Board met at the Town Hall in regular session. They approved the regular bills and signed the main contract for the water works project, with work expected to start in about ten days. The board also voted to leash dogs for thirty more days and passed ordinances against pedling and soliciting without a license.

Moore Buried Sunday in Blue River Chapel Cemetery
Joseph Van Buren Moore 65 longtime Carthage resident died Thursday night after five months of heart illness. He was born January 2 1871 in Shelby County and worked in saw mill threshing and later ran a garage with his sons. Survivors include his widow daughter Nina McClintock sons Ralph and Paul four grandchildren a brother a sister a step mother and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Carthage Wesleyan Methodist church with pallbearers and flower girls listed. burial followed at Blue River Chapel Cemetery.

A Walnut Ridge program by the young people, held at Carthage Friends church, drew participation from Charlottesville Westland Greenfield and Carthage. Mrs Alta Carr led the event featuring vocal and instrumental numbers including a ensemble by Hoyt Addison Merle Majors and a Greensburg guest. An offering near nine dollars will fund traveling expenses to the summer conference at Quaker Haven.
