Howard Addison, a vocational agriculture teacher at Carthage for the past year, has resigned to take a new position at Turkey Run Consolidated School in Parke County Indiana. He and his family will move in the coming days.
Mrs Alma Foust, Mrs Carrie Bramel, Mrs Mary Moore and Mrs Pearl Reynolds returned Monday from a four day motor trip to Ohio and Kentucky visiting relatives and friends. They spent time with Mrs Elza Bramel in Maysville Kentucky.
Mr and Mrs Omar Heim and families Mr and Mrs Leonard Wrightsman and family Ronnie Draper Mr and Mrs Joe Porter and sons returned home from Lake Freeman after a weekend fishing vacation. Miss Melanie Ann Addison and Miss Judy Fannin visited during their stay. The fishing was reported very good.
Mr and Mrs Bill Alexander welcomed Craig Alan an 8 lb 1 oz son born Friday July 24 at Rush Memorial Hospital. Mr and Mrs Elvet Moore of Hadden Heights New Jersey welcomed Lori Ann a 6 lb 9 oz daughter born July 28 granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Parvel Moore of Carthage. Mr and Mrs Ralph Henderson welcomed a daughter born Tuesday at Rush Memorial Hospital weight 7 lb 9 oz Joyce Elaine. Mr and Mrs Raymond Turner welcomed a daughter born Saturday at Rush Memorial Hospital Rushville R R Arlington.
Members and families of the Carthage School graduating class of 1943 gathered Sunday for a reunion and picnic at Riley Park Greenfield. Attendees included Don Wagoner and family of Indianapolis, Robert Barnhart family, Floyd Long family of Greenfield, Virginia Tuttle of Rushville, Carl Carson and sons, and Robert McKain and children, all of Carthage.
Mrs. Sally Akers Grizzell was granted a divorce and awarded custody of the child. She received seven dollars and fifty cents weekly support.
The Junior Young People met Thursday night July 23 with fifteen attendees and two visitors. After adjournment the group enjoyed singing led by reporter Billie Henley.
Mr and Mrs Bruno Lupato and daughter Anna Jane will move Saturday to R R 1 Vincennes Indiana where Mr Lupato will serve as principal of Consol idated School No 1 in Vincennes.

Mrs. Paul Gray and her daughter Marilyn Jo with Miss Virginia Eckart returned Saturday from a two week trip to Texas. They visited Mrs. Gray's sister Mrs. John M. Collins and family in Fort Worth and spent time with friends in Azle Texas.
The W S C S will gather next Thursday August 6 at 2 p m at the Methodist Church. The response includes a Bible verse devotions and a lesson by Virginia Johnson led by Lillian Stanley. Hostesses are Ellen Foust Lela Gold Maxine Carson and Hazel Murfin.
The Carthage community center project began with high costs and delays but J. F. Tweedy helped secure a receiver and salvaged materials after a 1920 bankruptcy suit. The auditorium finally opened for basketball, movies, and local events, evolving into the Tweedy Memorial Community Center, Inc. in 1944.
Pam Hunt organized a Friday night Dance Revue featuring her students Linda Brown Linda Apple Mary Patton Patty McCorkle Carol Ann Ellis Susan Skinner Melinda LaFuse Kimber lee Tweedy Lynette Stephens. Guest performers Kay Lynn Worland David Lawrence Mary Ann Zumkeller Larry Zumkeller Miss Senlin Herrick. Dances included tap acrobatic Hawaiian and modern ballet with Jane Hunt as guest soloist James Ellis Jr. as accompanist and Jack Tweedy Master of Ceremonies.
Hugh Morgan who purchased the former United Presbyterian Church in Mays has removed the copper cornerstone box from the masonry. Contents include a Bible, June dated Rushville Republican and Rushville Democrat issues, a July 4 1908 dedication program, two Rushville and New Castle telephone directories, a typed list of Mays residents, church papers, a family portrait of Rev H Rabb and other dated artifacts.
Friday guests included Miss Hilda Billman and Mr and Mrs Roy A Maxwel of Ft Madison Iowa. Weekend visitors to the Becks were their son William and Balard Smith of Cincinnati. Families shared meals and visits across Greencastle Hammond New Castle and Indianapolis with several regional relatives and friends.

Carthage Merchants softball claimed their second consecutive Rush County crown with a 2 to 1 victory over International Furniture Co. of Rushville on a well played seven innings. Norm Morris pitched seven innings with 12 strikeouts and two walks for Carthage, while Bob Wood fanned three and allowed no walks for International.
Norman Morris of Arlington has been named basketball coach at Morristown School. He will move to the Shelby County community soon to replace Charles Stoe who resigned after signing to replace Larry Cline last April. Cline had served as Morristown coach for several seasons. Morris served as coach at Arlington for eight years.
Carthage High School will compete in the Indiana State Fair Farmers Day Parade on September 10, led by director Harold V. Taylor with a 55 piece band. They vie for part of 655 dollars in prize money in the Grandstand review at 10 a.m. Each band has two minutes and 136 yards to perform, judged on playing, marching and appearance. Parade positions are chosen by drawing, with floats and costumed children and pets alternating in the procession.
The Jr M Y F gathered at Fletcher Methodist Church on Sunday evening with Mike Whitfield presiding. Members led the pledges and songs, Heard prayers and Scripture from Larry Nigh, and noted reports from David Whitfield and Johnny Terhune.
Mr and Mrs George J Carwein of Arlington mark fifty years of marriage with a Sunday open house from 2 to 5 pm They wed August 4 1909 and have lived in Arlington their whole life Active in Arlington Christian Church He taught Sunday School for 50 years and leads the Century Class He is a 50 year Mason Mrs Carwein served as church pianist for 55 years now directs the orchestra and organist She belongs to the Martha Poe Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and played for 30 years They have four children Carl D Carwein of Parker PA a daughter Mrs Robert Sterrett of Rushville and another Mrs Ernest Beckner of Arlington Cedric a son is deceased They have 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Mrs. Martin Roberts near Carthage was rushed to Rushville Hospital in critical condition. Her sons Hugh and Wally Roberts are noted as her children. Mrs. Mary Carson was released from Henry County Hospital after surgery. The report also lists William and Mrs. William Howard improving at home and Mrs. William Gatewood at Craven Nursing Home in Greencastle. Robert Harrold, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Harrold, improving at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis after being removed from the critical list. Also noted are Monday hospital admittances at Rush Memorial, including Floyd Reddick of Carthage R.R. 2.
Finley Smith and a 15-year-old youth from Carthage were arrested in Shelbyville for stealing a used motorcycle wheel and resisting arrest. Sonny Smith, 19, was arraigned in Shelbyville City Court and given 90 days at the Indiana State Penal Farm on a petit larceny charge, plus fines totaling $42 on two additional charges.
Charles F. Miller 42 of Shelbyville died of a heart attack last Friday at 5 30 p m while working as a radio dispatcher at City Hall in Carthage He had been recovering from prior attacks He was born in Henry County son of Joseph F and Estie Trowbridge Miller He married Ruby L Masters sister of Mrs Ona Hunt He is survived by two daughters Vicki Ann and Sherie Louise Services were held Monday at Carmony Funeral Home Shelbyville with burial at Glen Cove Cemetery Knights Town
Mrs. Ida Belle Andis 89 of near Carthage died at 9 45 p m Monday after a four week illness. She lived with daughter Mrs Myrtle Jessup near Carthage and was born September 1 1869 in Hancock County to John and Catherine Newman. Her husband George Andis died in December 1947. A Mt Lebanon Methodist Church member she is survived by four other children plus 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
James Terhune were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Kinnett.
Elmer Vernon Sandefur 53 died Monday at 11 a.m. at his Carthage home after a years long illness. He was a truck driver born May 11 1906 in Rush County and married Laura Maple in 1928. Survived by widow daughter Virginia Lewman son Marlin two brothers Fred and Harlan sister Hazel. services Wednesday at Hampton Mortuary conducted by Rev. Paul Mayfield with burial at Riverside Cemetery.
Mr and Mrs William Freed and their sons relocate from Carthage to 26 Kemberly Lane Muncie. Freed, former Carthage School principal, becomes personnel officer at Ball State Teachers College per Dr John R Emens. He oversees non academic personnel staff benefit programs and duties include selection training information and staff participation with the business office.
The Methodist Youth Fellowship met Monday evening July 27 at 7 0. The president Judy Kennedy led the session. Minutes and treasurer’s report were read. Old and new business discussed. Mrs Stan Lynch gave scripture and lesson. Carol Carver led group singing with Lynn Kennedy. Rev Mayfield spoke to the Jr High group. 20 members received refreshments served by Jeannine Terhune. Mrs Bertha Beck attended a district Legion Auxiliary auditing and finance meeting and luncheon at the home of Gertrude Marston in Winchester Indiana on Wednesday.
Is improving Waldo Mohr county highway superintendent reported to be recovering at Rush Memorial Hospital after a severe burn from lighting road warning flares last week. The accident left him badly burned but he is progressing toward recovery.
