Relatives Visit Family Before Army Assignment

Thirty two relatives and friends gathered at the home of Mr and Mrs Henry Jessup to visit their grandson John Jessup Jr of Antioch Illinois. John Jessup Jr has been selected as Speech Correctionist for the U S Army Dependent Schools in southern Germany. Carthage defeats Fairland to take league lead tie

Carthage beat Fairland 8 to 3 at Arlington Tuesday night for the second win over the Tigers this season. Carthage totaled 11 hits in the first four innings and improved to 7-2 in the league while Fairland dropped to 6-2 in eight starts. McClurg homered, with R Magee F Magee and Edwards adding doubles, and Shipp hit a triple for Fairland.

Harry C Leisure 45 of Carthage was driving a 1959 car when power steering failed on a southbound road 20 miles south of Shiveleys Corner. The vehicle crashed through two fences and struck a telephone pole, totaling about 2000 in damage. The incident occurred at 12 05 a m with additional fence damages to adjacent properties.

All entries for the 1961 Rush County Fair must be at the County Extension Office by Wednesday noon July 26. 4H members may enter without a fee in 4H classes, but Open Show classes require the regular fee. 4H entrants may join Open classes and pay the fee. Sheryl Bills and Nan Dauben Speck led the District 4 H Demonstration and Public Speaking contest at Anderson on July 14. Bills tied for first in public speaking and will go to the state contest September 1 with a speech on Communism.
