Thomas A. Roberts age 18 and Sharon Sue Todd age 17 both of Carthage obtained marriage licenses. Donald Campbell age 23 of Carthage and Brenda J. Gorman age 17 of Carthage also received licenses.
Mr and Mrs Malcolm Petry of Kennard welcomed a son born Saturday.
Rush County real estate deeds fell to an estimated 201 000 last month due to few farm sales. Rushville City led with 103 000 in transactions, suburban lots and tracts produced 70 000, and farm sales totalled 27 000. Local transfer shows Frank and Rosann Overman selling Lot 16 in Carthage to John and Blanche Richey.
Mr and Mrs Lake Logan and daughter along with Mr and Mrs Donald McColley and sons visited Mrs Helen Logan in Fitch Kentucky from Wednesday to Friday last week. Rev and Mrs Herman A Parker of Carthage returned home Tuesday from a ten day vacation in Greensboro NC where they visited their son Robert J Parker and daughter Martha.
Mr and Mrs Ralph McClarnon and Mr and Mrs Hubert Hunt attended the Honor Day program of Hoosier Girls' State at the LA Auditorium in Bloomington. Their daughter Pam Hunt served as song leader for Girls' State the entire week and on Honor Day.
Mr and Mrs Lindley Taylor of Carthage were guests of Mrs Myrtle Wolverton in Noblesville for the weekend. Saturday evening Mr and Mrs George Lehr hosted a social evening for the visitors and local residents including Mr and Mrs Taylor Mrs Wolverton and others. A casual canasta game entertained the group.
Mrs Odest Logan and daughter Berniece visit Dunreith Wednesday afternoon with Mrs Joe Hinton of Knightstown and her mother Mrs Emma Clarke of Well ingboro England. Also present are Mrs Don Jackson and Rosemary, Mrs Fred Abshire and Elizabeth of Springport, Mrs Delbert Reason and sons of Shirley, and Mr and Mrs Palmer of England.
Forty five guests and teachers Bob Winters and Mrs Winters met at Longacre Park in Indianapolis on Sunday for a picnic. They spent the afternoon swimming boating and playing miniature golf.
Mr and Mrs Ann Fitch and Mr and Mrs Howard McCorkle returned to Carthage Sunday after an eight day vacation in Ludington Michigan. Mr and Mrs Paul Clevidence and Mr and Mrs Gene Wilson and family came home Saturday from a week long Ludington Michigan vacation.
The Past Matrons and Patrons of the Eastern Star and their families held their annual picnic Sunday at Frank Alexander lake near Carthage. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Lee Silver Mr and Mrs Jack Overman and sons Van and Kirby Mr and Mrs Noah Brooks Mr and Mrs Darrell Rowan and family Mrs Kathleen Pile and son of Indianapolis Mr and Mrs Vinton Hudson Mr and Mrs Paul Scott Mrs Robert McKain and children and Mr and Mrs Frank Alexander. Mrs Raymond Kennedy was an afternoon guest.
Mr and Mrs Maurice Lukens and Tina Lacy returned to Carthage Friday from a week long motor trip to states south. They visited Rock City Ruby Falls and went as far as Alabama enjoying many points of interest.
The Carth-Knight Summer Bowling Leagues closed with strong finishes. Pinbusters led the Junior League with 14 wins and 4 losses. In the Mixed League Ups and Downs and Unlucky Quads tied at 15–6. the tie was decided with Ups and Downs sweeping three games.

Mr and Mrs Guy Ewing of Carthage and Mr and Mrs Rue Ewing of Mr Comfort returned home Friday after a week in Missouri and Iowa They visited A B Brookhart and family at Ft Madison Iowa Olivet Leaverton at Milton Iowa and other relatives in Missouri
Julia McMichael visited Sunday evening as a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Parish, sharing time in their home and social conversation.
Carthage Nazarene Church hosts a revival July 16 to 23 at 7 30 p m nightly led by evangelist and singer Rev Everett Smalley from Shirley Indiana The public is invited to attend this religious event.
William O. Gatewood has purchased the Carthage Hotel property of Mrs. H G Dobson. He is cleaning up the grounds and has not disclosed future plans.
The County School Reorganization Committee schedules a hearing for Friday night July 21 at 8:00 p.m. in Rushville Gymnasium to discuss preliminary recommendations to the State Committee for Rush County school reorganization. Guy McBride chairs the meeting to hear further discussion and public opinion on the one-unit plan favored countywide.
Mrs Doris Steward and son Allan and Mrs Barbara Norfleet and Cheryl and Wayne attended a program Sunday at Mocking Bird Hill Park in Anderson to hear Grand Ole Opry stars. Many locals frequent friends and family, attend weddings, church events, picnics, and sightseeing across Indiana including Richmond, Knightstown, Carthage, Wabash, Dublin Lake, Versailles State Park, and McCormick's Creek with several relatives noted at family get togethers.
Bridal Shower for Brenda Gorman of Carthage, bride elect of Donald Campbell of Charlottesville, held Friday at Friends Church in Charlottesville. Hostesses were Virgil Campbell, Robert Campbell, and Hattie Campbell. Seventy two guests attended with Stella Humes receiving the door prize. Gifts and refreshments were arranged by Louie Frederick and Cynthia Pearson, Carol Carver, Sheila DeWitt, and Sondra Todd.
The regular M Y F meeting was held Monday at 7:00 in the church annex with Sue Siler leading the opening and Bible quiz. Plans were announced for a July 31 swimming party with hamburger fry at New Castle and a visit to the Methodist Children's Home.
A crowded long weekend near Monticello featured camping boating and water skiing by Lyle and family Magee Johnson Wise and others from Greenfield Carthage Knightstown and Ft. Lauderdale. Nearby visits included Julia Buschhaupts 90th birthday open house in New Palestine and various relatives spending time in Indiana and Ohio with multiple households listed.
In a July contest the Sluggers defeated the Yankees 10-5 as walks and errors fueled offense. Lafuse pitched well for the Sluggers with 11 strikeouts, while Nigh and Rucker led the Yankees with a pair of bombs and multiple hits.
Carthage traveled to Hancock Central and lost 10 to 5 as Central exploded for five runs in the sixth. Carthage pitcher K Porter and McClurg shared duties, while Central’s Rash Raymer and Kinnaman led the offense with multiple hits. Carthage committed four errors to Central none.
Carthage knocked off Columbia 11 hits in five innings as McClurg and F Magee homered and Shutt along with R Magee added three baggers. Bargain Barn forfeited to Fairland due to a timing misunderstanding in the other scheduled game.

John N Stevens 44 listed in fair condition at Hancock Memorial Hospital after a Tuesday 1:15 p m two car collision on U S 40 one and a half miles east of Range Line Road. Officials say Stevens may have fallen asleep at the wheel, his car crossing the divider and hitting Orville Warner of Roaring Spring Pa.
The Carthage Better Business Association plans a Midnight Sale on Friday July 28 from midnight to 3 a.m. inviting all Carthage merchants to join. An hourly drawing from 1 a.m. offers prizes donated by merchants. Sale committee includes Hubert Hunt Clyde Ruby Mary Joseph and Mrs Kenneth Rhodes.
The second Rush County Lamb Pool on Wednesday July 5 at Cowan Stockyards saw 153 lambs with 59 double blues 75 single blues and 14 red dot. Howard Earnest Walk er Township led with 54 head 30 prime or double blue and 24 single blue. Phillip White Washington Township 35 head followed with 20 double blue or prime and 15 single blue. Ed Tellas Washington Township 15 head and Stanley Hurst Orange Township 14 head were next. Lambs were sold at the Cincinnati Market and next pool is August 9.
The Public Relations Division reports overall good conditions with clear streams and lakes in most regions. Notable catches include crappies and channel cats in central areas, white perch and striped bass in White and Flat Rock Rivers, and a 21 pound blue catfish in Kosciusko County while bass spin fishing.
Mr and Mrs Gabbard completed a five week course at Ball State Teachers College last week. Mrs Cecil Pike finished the program from Friday to Wednesday this week at Versailles State Park.
