Mr and Mrs Robert White welcomed son Mark Robert weighing 8 lb 15 oz born Saturday July 14 1962 at Hancock County Hospital Greenfield.
Mr and Mrs Lewis Lafuse and family joined John S Brown nephew of Mrs Lafuse and Delma Sue Briar of Milton at the Nettle Creek Church in Hagerstown Indiana for a Saturday afternoon wedding and reception.
Mr and Mrs Unn Fitch of Carthage and Mr and Mrs Everett Sherwood and Mr and Mrs Melvin Tebey of Brookville came home Saturday after a weeklong vacation and fishing trip to Indian Lake in Ohio.
Joe Wolfe son of Mr and Mrs Robert Wolfe of Hammond Illinois will play the juvenile singing lead in the Broadway production Music Man at the Summer Theater Sullivan Illinois from August 7 through August 19. The Wolfe family visits frequently the Heim home and Joe appeared on the Alumni banquet program this year.
Mr and Mrs Paul Jackson announce the birth of their son Phillip Elwayne at Hancock County Hospital weighing 8 lb 8 oz on Monday July 16 1962. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Leonard Jarrett of St Joe Indiana and Mr and Mrs Leonard Jackson of Carthage RR 2.
Mrs. Howard Windsor and her daughter Dawn visited Big Tippecanoe Lake at North Manchester Indiana with Mrs. Bill Windsor, and sons Bill Jr and David spending last Tuesday through Thursday at the lakeside retreat.
Max Stanley of Alquina school becomes superintendent of schools at the Indiana Soldiers' and Sailors' Children's Home in northern Rush County. He replaces Vernon Craig who resigned. Stanley has served as Alquina principal for years and is a Connersville native. Bill Power was appointed earlier as superintendent replacing L. A. Cortner who retires.
The Saturday show scheduled for July 28 moves to the Norman Edwards field on the east fork of the V. The change is announced by Frank Mourey, chairman of the project.
Mr and Mrs Bill Hinton and daughters Mr and Mrs Howard Mann Mrs Beth Whitfield and Miss Joan Whitfield and Bill Hager of Knightstown spent the weekend at Lake Shafer enjoying leisure by the water and fellow travelers.

Carthage defeated New Salem 5 to 1 as K Lafuse fired a one hitter and struck out nine in a full game. Carthage totaled seven hits led by Edwards Nigh and Lafuse with two each while New Salem’s D Dalrymple had the lone hit. Batteries were Carthage Lafuse Porter and New Salem J Dalrymple Lynch.

Two Carthage youths are among 140 plus boys enrolled for the second week of Junior Basketball Camp at Taylor University. Mike Joseph and Tom Pearson join more than 900 junior high youths across seven one week sessions. Co directors include Don J. Odle and Marion Crawley with Crawley directing until Odle returns. New coaches at the camp include John Givens Joe Platt John Long Les Ray Max Bell Bud Ritter and George Glass. Campers live in the men's dormitory with college counsellors. Bob Davenport is Dean of Boys. A Citizenship Hour each morning precedes a Saturday banquet where merit awards and new skills are showcased.
Sixty contestants from 60 counties and 40 fairs will compete August 25 in the Farm ers Building at the State Fairgrounds for the Queen title. Prizes include 500, 100, and 50 dollar savings bonds plus trophies and memories.

Rush County student Amy Sue Addison of Carthage and Rushville freshman John D. Spuller in engineering earned Purdue University’s Distinguished Rating for the second semester of 1961-62. The award honors undergraduates with a 5.5 or higher scholastic index and at least 14 credit hours completed.

The winning run came in the seventh on J Edward's hit driving C Lafuse home from second. Carthage and New Salem tied 3 3 Monday and the game was to be continued later.
The Carthage High School Band joined the Annual State American Legion Parade in South Bend Indiana. The district covered expenses and the group traveled by two Clarence Heim and Elmer Fenner buses led by Ira Hopper. A band uniform fund shows total cost 3600 with 1500 cash on hand and 2100 needed. summer goal 1100 and current donations include Lions Club American Legion Auxiliary and Kappa Kappa Sorority.

Lowell H. Wilson of Carthage Indiana has been commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force after graduating from Officer Training School at Lackland AFB Texas. He earned a B S degree from Purdue University before entering the Air Force in July 1961 and will be reassigned to Andrews AFB Maryland.
The county rainfall tally from April 1 to July 7 shows Orange Township at 14.7 inches, followed by Anderson 12.9 and Center 12.8. Other townships range from Rushville 11.8 to Noble 8.1 inches, with county average 11.16 inches and reports funneled to the County Extension Office.
