Belle Phelps 82 Dies After Long Illness
Arabella Rebecca Phelps of Carthage aged 82 died Friday afternoon after a fall on December 2, 1945 which left her with a fractured hip. Born October 1, 1869 in Guilford County North Carolina she was married to Henry B. Phelps and was a member of the Carthage Friends church. Surviving are a daughter Maude Porter a granddaughter Jean Veach and a great grandson Kelly Veach of Carthage. Funeral services were held Sunday at 3 pm at Thompson Funeral Home with Zena White and Reverend Everett Chapman officiating. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery.

Lt Porter Completes 100th Korea Mission With RAF Shoot ing Stars
1st Lt. Curtis J. Porter of the 8th Fighter Bomber Wing led F 80 Shooting Stars on his 100th mission over North Korea targeting two railway bridges near Chosin Reservoir. He witnessed the bridges collapse from a high dive bomb run and earned the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters and the DFC with one cluster. Porter and family visited Carthage parents Thurman and Mrs Porter before a 30 day leave prior to returning to Arizona base.

Fire damages barn behind North Main home
A barn at the rear of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Ewing on North Main street was damaged by fire last Monday at 2:45 PM. Sparks from a burning trash pile ignited dry shingles. the fire truck arrived and put out the blaze, with damage limited to the roof.

The local American Legion Auxiliary chapter won the Tenth District Scrapbook contest for weekly papers. Chairwoman Mrs. Norma Lee McKain led a 10-page entry with 130 inches of clippings and photos.
