Champion Hogs to Show at State Fair Indiana
Champion hogs from Indiana and nearby states will compete at the Indiana State Fair from August 28 to September 6 in Indianapolis. The event offers a record $31,218 in cash premiums with more than 3,500 swine entries, including over $5,000 for 4-H youths. 4-H judging will include night sessions to free space in the swine building. Indiana farmers received five percent more for their products in May than in April. The May price index was three percent below a year earlier, with hogs leading the rise at 24 percent, potatoes up 18 percent, and chickens down 15 percent. The corn hog ratio improved but remained below last year and normal levels. May dairy feed and poultry feed ratios were lower than both April and the prior year.

Impressive ceremonies marked the cornerstone lay for the Arlington Christian Church replacing a 1909 building burned last January. Henry C. Spangler 88 died at his son’s Akron home after a week of illness from heart complications. Born November 6, 1864 in Bigeler, Pa, he was a Fletcher Methodist member.
