A June dust storm along Road 35 south of Winamac highlights soil erosion that prompted a new windbreak tree nursery at the Jasper Pulaski state game preserve. Virgil M. Simmons, commissioner of the Department of Conservation, said erosion common in northern Indiana drives windblown soil across Bass Lake. Twenty two acres at the preserve are now a nursery to grow stock for windbreak plantings with beds nearly finished. trees will be available for erosion control and reforestation in two years.
