Weekend Guests Assist Hammond Entertainment

Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt Addison and family along with Miss Rowena Silver Miss Janet Hunt Miss Linda Peffer and Steve Hunt were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wolfe in Hammond Illinois. The Four Reeds provided intermission music for Mrs. Wolfe’s students piano recital at 4 p m Sunday at the Hammond Methodist Church. Steve Hunt preached the morning sermon at the church.

Rev John Wolf to Take Pastorate at South Bend Church

Local Garden Tour Plans Seven Stops in Center Carthage Area

The annual 4-H and adult garden tour schedules seven stops for Thursday. Visits include Kenneth and Betty Johnson farm in Center township, Joe Deerin across the road, David Stanley 4-H garden, Louis White garden, and a cooperative basket dinner at Henry Stinger's home east of Carthage. After dinner, a Q and A covers gardens, insects, fruits and flowers. The tour resumes at Beck's greenhouse in Carthage for orchid viewing, then Fred Flick's flower garden. Purdue garden specialist W. B. Ward joins. Garden committee members are Mrs. Cleve Geise, Mrs. Chester Cross, Mrs. Thomas Kelso, and Mrs. Orville Porter.

Mixers Home Demonstration Club July 1956 Meeting

The Mixers Home Demonstration Club met July 6 1956 at Virginia Whitfield’s home. Joenita Schnieder led opening prayers and the Creed. Virginia Whitfield gave devotionals. The lesson on Table Decorations was presented by Gladys Butler and Maxine McDaniel. Eunice Ewing led the song Columbia the Gem of the Ocean and provided its history. A donation was voted for the Salvation Army Building. The group planned a joint picnic with the Ripley club for 4 H girls and appointed Eunice Ewing Mary Bush and Joyce Harrold to arrange details. Butler and Mann reported on the State Conference with Mann selecting Safety in the Kitchen. Next meeting July 26 at Joenita Schnieder’s for a pitch-in dinner. New member James Dalrymple joined. Refreshments served to twelve members one guest Sue Ann Land and several children.

Carthage Baseball Teams Shine In Week Of Action

The Carthage squads posted mixed results with the 5th and 6th losing to Knightstown in two games, the 7th and 8th sweeping Greenfield and Charlottesville, and the high school team dominating league play by whitewashing Mt. Comfort and Spiceland. Knightstown hammered Carthage 32 6 in Friday’s 5th 6th clash, then won 14 6 on Wednesday. Carthage battled back to beat Greenfield 8 5 and Charlottesville 7 0. The high school group routed Mt. Comfort 7 0 and Spiceland 12 0, aided by walks and miscues by opponents.

Trip South Details from Hull and Tatman Party

Mr and Mrs Luther Hull and Mrs Hulls sister and husband Mr and Mrs Clyde Tatman of Cincinnati enjoyed a motor trip South last week visiting Mr and Mrs George Roland in Clarksville Tennessee and Mr and Mrs George Hudson in Alabama. They toured Lookout Mountain the Smokies Oak Ridge and Cumberland Falls State Park.

Death of Miss Helen Weaver of Indianapolis

Miss Helen Weaver died in Indianapolis last week. Services were held Thursday at Flanner Buchanan Fall Creek Mortuary. She was the daughter of the late Clarence Weaver and Mrs Mabel Johnson Weaver and is survived by a brother Ben and her step mother. Born and raised in Carthage, she later moved to Indianapolis after marriage.

Local Women Escape Injury After East Washington Crash

Five local women from Knightstown escaped with only minor bruises after a car struck by a semi-trailer on East Washington Street in Indianapolis at about 11 00 a m. Miss Shar lee Kyser drove the car and Miss Kyser, Mrs Gouldie Kyser, Hattie Innis Stella Humes and Alta Carr were in the group. Damages to the Kyser vehicle were substantial but all occupants avoided hospitalization. Police investigated a second crash witnessed at the scene where a man suffered a heart attack and his car hit a pole.
