Mr and Mrs Elmer McMichael Jr welcomed a son named Max Allen born Thursday at 3 am at Rush Memorial Hospital. Grandparents are Roy Small and Mr and Mrs Elmer McMichael Sr.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur McCorkle and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Mosier and daughter Sheryl are vacationing for two weeks at Ludington Michigan.
Sgt. and Mrs. Curtis Lewman and Carol Ann of Colorado Springs spent the week with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Sandefur. The Lewmans and family plan to move to Neosho Missouri.
Alsta Containers Inc employees take their annual vacation with the plant closed until July 8. Machine repairs are underway during the vacation period to resume operations after the break.
Mr. and Mrs. Elvet Moore of Westville New Jersey and Mrs. Robert Norris with daughters of Terre Haute are guests at Mr. and Mrs. Parvel Moore this week. Mr. and Mrs. George Moore were Sunday dinner guests. Rev and Mrs E E Moorman of Brooklyn Indiana visited Monday.
Mr and Mrs Dave DeWitt Mr and Mrs Johnny Jordan and family and Ricky DeWitt son of Mr and Mrs Elmer DeWitt are on vacation this week in Michigan.

Mrs Paul McCorkle purchased and moved into the Clevidence house. Mr and Mrs Roscoe Davis of Center Township moved into the late Rebecca Healey property they bought. Mr and Mrs Ralph DeBoard of Carthage bought the Paul McCorkle property and moved in.
Carthage dropped to 1 win and 4 losses after a 5-2 loss to Arlington. Arlington hitters produced a run in every inning while Webb connected for a triple and a homer and Gardner added a triple. Josiah Merrill Chappell age 69 of New Castle died Monday at Henry County Hospital after a brief illness. Survived by wife Winnie T Chappell four children two sisters two brothers and seven grandchildren. Funeral today at Macer Funeral Home New Castle with ministers Rev Robert Harvey and Rev Truman Whitaker. Burial in South Mound Cemetery. Former Carthage Hardware manager and longtime Perfect Circle Corp retiree.
The Indiana Conservation Commission announced a Wednesday August 15 opening for the squirrel season, running to October 13 with a five-bag limit. The midweek start aims to aid farmers, with the same August 15 to October 13 dates used in 1957 and 1958 subject to the conservation director’s proclamation.
Mrs. Frank Yankuner of Indianapolis died Tuesday from heart trouble. Funeral is today in Indianapolis. Survived by husband, a son Nathan at home, and daughter Mrs Hollis Williams of Knightstown. The Yankuners formerly lived in Carthage and owned a dry goods store now the Carthage Hardware site.
Postal authorities plan a cement block building on Main Street near the Golden Rule Furniture Store to house a Fortville post office. The 30 by 60 foot 1800 square foot structure would feature a flat roof fluorescent interior lighting acoustical tile ceilings cement floors and a mailing platform with gas or oil forced air heat. Proposals and lease specifications are available from the Postmaster or Cincinnati Inspector W. H. Verkamp.
A straw rick at the Container Corporation of America paper mill was struck by lightning Monday around 3:00 p.m. The blaze caused estimated losses of 10 000 to 12 000, insured, with the mill using its own equipment to prevent spread. The storm also cut power and damaged fuse boxes in the town. Another bolt damaged Roll Risk home in Carthage with shattered windows and a burned fuse box.
Mr and Mrs Jack Wessel and children Mark Allan and Debra Ann of Ft Lauderdale arrived in Carthage to spend a week with Mrs Wessel's parents the Pitts family and Linda. They will also visit Mr Wessel's parents in Indianapolis. A family picnic was enjoyed at Greenfield on the 4th.
Lieut. Gov. Harold W. Handley led the Indiana Republican ticket at the state convention winning 1,430 of 2,013 delegates. He defeated Gov. George N. Craig as party leaders praised unity and pledged support for the November campaign. Secretary of State Parker won the lieutenant governor nomination with 1,418 votes.
Mr and Mrs William Castner and their Indianapolis children joined Mr and Mrs Fred Flick for the Centennnnal celebration in Osgood on Wednesday.
Anson S. Thomas of the Indiana Farm Bureau warns Indiana will fall $70 million behind in federal highway matching funds by January 1957 without new local revenue. The state now must provide 50 percent matches for approved federal road projects and 90 percent on interstate segments, with Indiana's 1,160 miles including U S 40 and U S 52 at stake.
Knightstown pitcher O Malley issued twenty one walks as Carthage Junior High exploded for nine in the first inning on seven bases on balls plus four hits to rout the Falcons 20 to 11. Rucker allowed seven walks in the last three innings. Brammer went 3 for 3 for Knightstown while Carthage teammates R ucker and Watkins shared duties on the mound. In a separate tee m contest the Carthage fifth and sixth graders edged New Salem 17 15 as Gatewood tripled in the decisive run and Smith fanned Jarman with two on in the final frame. The local high school squad then topped Greenfield 8 4 as Carthage racked up eight errors but held on. A Carthage Mt. Comfort game was rained out and rescheduled for Friday. A weekly schedule lists games through July 12 including Knightstown and Spiceland league events.
Mr and Mrs Floyd Long of Greenfield route 2 welcomed a daughter weighing 8 pounds 8 ounces born June 26 at St Francis hospital Indianapolis named Susar Flaine Mrs Long formerly Alice Gates of Carthage
Mrs. Alice Macy died Tuesday morning at Rushville Nursing Home where she had resided over a year. Born January 16, 1877 in Rush County she was daughter of James Milton and Mary Elizabeth Woodley Brooks. She married J Edwin Macy in 1901 who preceded her in death. She is survived by six brothers and a sister. Funeral services were held Thursday at Thompson Funeral Home, Rev. Forrest Crider officiating, with interment at Walnut Ridge cemetery.
John L. Stickley of Charlotte North Carolina was elected International President of Lions International at the 39th annual convention in Miami Florida. Lions International claims 542 828 members in 12 334 Lions Clubs across 75 countries or regions making it the world s largest service club organization.
Fifty Ripley Township residents signed petitions asking for removal of a hazardous curve on the Carthage Knightstown road. At the county meeting on Monday the board deferred action temporarily and ordered highway supervisor Frank Lawrence to install a guard rail as an emergency safeguard. Petition presenters were Ross Tweedy and Donald Ruby of Carthage.
Mrs. William Oldham and Mrs. Marble Lowe of Charlottesville visited Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Hill on Saturday, joined by Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Tetrick for an afternoon call.
