Money's Restaurant on South Main Street enters new management this week. Owner Kenneth Money has turned over operations to Misses Esther Magee and Virginia Chance. Hours are 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. six days a week from Monday through Saturday.
The Carthage Brotherhood and Sisterhood will hold their regular monthly meeting next Monday July 15 at 7 30 p m in the Carthage Community Center.
Carthage High School hosts an instrument display in the Band Room this Friday night July 12 for parents and prospective students to view and for tryouts.
Mr and Mrs Victor Kerlin of Lapel and their son in law and daughter of Mr and Mrs Leonard Jackson of here returned home Saturday after several weeks travel through the southern states and Florida They also attended the International Lions Club Convention at Miami Beach Florida during their vacation.
Mr. and Mrs. Odell Pitts and children Jan Larry and Marilyn returned home last week from an eight day trip to Daytona Beach Florida. En route they visited Mrs. Pitts’ brother and family Mr. and Mrs. David Magee and sons Tory and Davy in Chattanooga Tennessee.
Mr and Mrs James Winslow of Greenfield welcomed a son named Anthony James born July 1 1963. Grandparents are Mrs Claribel Winslow of Greenfield and formerly of Carthage.
Pamela Jo Clark of Knightstown spent two days at Ball State College Muncie Ind for fresh man orientation and fall class enrollment. A Carthage High School graduate she was class vice president and yearbook business manager, majorette and drum major, and plans to major in elementary education.
Mike Joseph and Larry Pitts attend a junior basketball camp this week at Taylor University in Up land Indiana. They are joined by Mr and Mrs Odell Pitts and daughter Jan Mrs Mary Joseph and Bill Gatewood.
The Carthage Hardware, owned by Gerald Brosius of Knightstown, was sold to Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hopkins of Knightstown. Mrs. Hopkins is the former Margaret Nelson. The store will close for inventory Saturday July 12 and the new owners take over Monday July 15. Ed Carroll, current manager since 1947, plans are indefinite.
Carthage High defeated Arlington 24 to 2 as Mike Lafuse pitched a no hitter and led a twelve hit attack. Extra base hits came from T Manuel Mofield and E Jackson. Arlington scored only on errors with one inning producing two runs.
Carthage High defeated Morton 26 to 6 at the local diamond to move to 6-2 in league play. Eldon Jackson Kit Porter and Jim Zimmerman each added extra base hits while pitcher Mike Lafuse and Porter limited Morton to six hits and three walks.
Carthage seventh and eighth graders beat Manilla 4 0 then lost to Morton 15 14 in an extra inning game at Morton. Kim Lafuse led pitching and fielding for Carthage, while Carroll Rucker Lafuse and Akers had all Carthage hits. Manilla’s Lortz had the lone hit.
Carthage won 6-5 in a pitchers duel as they capitalized on fielding errors. W. Nigh had the lone hit for the winners while the locals were outhit 6-1 in a windy Wednesday game. Florida visitors Mr. and Mrs. Charles Price and daughter Janice, from Bartow, stayed with the Pearsons and compared WWII memories in India.
Mr and Mrs Joe Porter Mr and Mrs Claude Pearson and Kevin Cynthia and Mr and Mrs Ralph Pearson attended the swag night at Taylor University marking the Junior basketball camp week. Tom Pearson won the Citizenship Award for his floor and led the American League team to first place. Alva Porter won first place in box hockey golf and ping pong and earned All Star honors in the Pro League.
Miss Jennifer Eoff sixteen daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Eoff of Carthage is sponsored by American Legion Post 316 as candidate for 1963 Rush Co Fair Queen. She will be a Carthage High School junior active in band majorette 4-H pep club Spanish club cheerleading and Fletcher Methodist asst secretary treasurer.
The Metropolitan School District of Eastern Hancock County opened in Charlottesville with M. K. Holhausen appointed superintendent. Ethel Rozzell is bookkeeper and secretary. The office operates weekdays 8 am to 4 pm on South Main Street across from the Methodist Church. James Boese named treasurer and joins board with W. T. Wicker, Vern Pope, and Omer Y. Davis. Schools in Charlottesville Wilkinson and Shirley will serve grades 1-12. Teaching openings remain at the elementary level.
