Mr and Mrs Trees Jackson Mr and Mrs Robert Jackson and Mr and Mrs Jack Jackson returned Saturday from a fishing trip at Lake Gage near Orland Indiana after spending a week there.
Mr and Mrs Gene Richmond have purchased the Mrs Lillian Julian property on North Main street. The Richmonds and their young daughter will move from Knightstown around August 1.
Ward received word of the death of Mrs. Oliver Moore in Long Beach California. Mrs. Moore is identified as the former Ruth Parker of the Walnut Ridge vicinity.
Mrs. Harry Watts owner of the Alhambra Theatre announces the venue will close for the summer months, affecting performances and schedules in Knights Town.
Carthage stores will be closed Wednesday July 4 with Jackson's Restaurant remaining open. The announcement notes a village level observance and provides no further business hours.
Mrs. Clarence Perisho and daughters vacation this week at Quaker Haven on Dewart Lake. They stay with her brother the Rev. Edgar White and his Farm land family while he attends Indiana Yearly Meeting and Pastor's Short Course.
Cynthia Sue Pearson daughter of Mr and Mrs Claude Pearson performed in a dance revue at New Castle on Thursday with Frankie Bly and Kelly Veach taking part during the afternoon and evening programs.
Attendees from Carthage at the Indiana Kentucky All Star Game included Dr. H. L. Hensler, Dr. Richard McNabb, Jimmy Ellis, Jack Tweedy, and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Rhodes at Butler Fieldhouse. Lloyd Manuel and Alvin Stapp also attended the game in Indianapolis Saturday night.

Mr and Mrs Charles Whitfield attended the 10th District Rural Letter Carriers meeting held in Connersville on Saturday night.
Miss Jeanne Marsh daughter of Mr and Mrs Caleb Marsh returned from Rush Memorial hospital Monday She will be confined to bed at her home for a few weeks with rheumatic fever.
George B. Glenn, former Mt. Comfort High principal 1942 to 1945, named new Charlottesville High School principal. He has led Oaktown High School in Knox County for three years. Glenn holds a BS from Indiana State Teachers College and an MS from Indiana University, with licenses in multiple sciences and math. His wife Dorothy will teach in Wilkinson elementary schools, and the couple have two sons planning to move to Charlottesville.
Miss Mary Woodbridge from Warren visited Thursday evening with her sister Mrs Howard E Henley and Mr Henley along with friends.
Eighteen members and nine guests attended the Lions Club meeting at the Community Center. The club voted ten dollars to the Salvation Army building fund and fifty dollars to the local fire station. The annual Family Night picnic is set for Wednesday July 11 at the Community Center basement with a pitch-in supper. Jack Tweedy named chairman. Jim Ellis and Harold Dixon to handle the program and ice cream. Mr Miller from General Telephone discussed the dial system and improved long distance service, followed by a Q and A session.
Mr and Mrs Ed Carroll and family and Mr and Mrs Robert Stephens are spending the week vacationing at Lake Shafer.
July meetings of the M. Y. F. will be held on Mondays at 7 15 p m instead of 8 15 p m. This time change affects all scheduled gatherings for the month. Practical seating and timing adjustments will be communicated at the next meeting.
Roscoe Adkins of Arlington was fined on two counts in local justice court Saturday for drunken driving and operating a vehicle with a suspended license. He was assessed $25.00 in fines with total costs of $79.90. Arresting officer was Marshal Hugh Trowbridge.

Maintain distance, avoid risky maneuvers, pull off safely if needed, and stay alert. Do not stop on the highway or flag down passing cars.
The Fidelity Class met Tuesday evening in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Pearson. Devotions and entertainment were given by Mr. and Mrs. Pearson. Refreshments were served at the close of the gathering.

Arthur Bowden and his wife returned from a three week trip that began in Laurel Mississippi where they visited their son and his family. They toured New Orleans then stopped in Carthage Michigan at Hesperia for fishing where Bowden caught two large walleye pike including a 30 inch specimen. They based at Jack's Lake Frost Cottages on McLaren Lake and visited Mrs Frances Randall before returning to Carthage last Friday.
Mrs. Alice McNabb wife of Dr Richard McNabb was injured in a Friday afternoon automobile crash on the Knightstown Carthage road near the twin silo farm north of here. Her son David was uninjured. The 1955 Chrysler 300 belonging to Dr George B McNabb was badly damaged.
The Rush County Fair Board requires all cattle, swine and sheep exhibitors to present official health certificates signed by a licensed accredited veterinarian before unloading. Cattle must meet TB and Brucellosis tests, hogs need Brucellosis testing and hog cholera vaccination, with specified time frames and exemptions. Sheep requirements continue on page 4.
Dr. Edward H. White an osteopath and son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur White of near Carthage died last Wednesday night at his Battle Creek home after a cerebral hemorrhage. Surviving are his wife Glenna White, daughter Jane, brother Dr. Paul White of Indianapolis, grandmother Mrs. Ella White, and aunt Mrs. Orville Brown of Greenfield. Funeral services were held Saturday in Battle Creek with interment there.
Indiana state parks expect record crowds this year despite two weeks of activity closures at Cataract Lake Recreation Area due to high water. Eighteen parks plus one recreation area show attendance well ahead of last year, with unique features at Dhfty Falls Spring Mill Brown County McCormick's Creek Turkey Run Shades Pokagon Dunes Lincoln State Park and a new youth camp. Director Harley G. Hook urges Hoosiers to visit for a day or more.
A bridal shower for Miss Sally Carter of Knightstown, bride elect of Bill Windsor, was held Wednesday at 7 30 p m in the Carthage Community Center ballroom with hostesses Mesdames Stevens Heim McKain Gatewood and Jackson. Entertainment included two contests a tap dance by Eldon Jackson and Bonita Gatewood and a number by Sherry McKain. Pastel colors and a bride groom archade themed table decorated the event and refreshments followed.
John New and Buddy White of New Castle were arrested Saturday night for assault and battery with intent on Mrs. Maxine Cline of Carthage. They were jailed in New Castle on a justice warrant and later moved to Rushville on a circuit court warrant with bonds set at $500 each.
Airman First Class Glen Fitch son of Mr and Mrs Uni Fitch stationed at Stuttgart Germany has been promoted to Staff Sergeant in a recent ceremony.
Mrs. C. G. Hill fell at her home on Sunday and suffered bruises after recently leaving the hospital where she was treated for a broken arm from a prior fall.
The Rev. and Mrs. Gerald Fleming and family relocated to New Castle on Tuesday to buy property. The Barrett home in Carthage has sold, and they cannot locate a new residence there.
Indiana State Highway Department designs weatherproof hoods with the slogan Speed Kills Slow Down and Live to cover truck and bus speed limit signs. About 2000 hoods will be posted along state routes by 36 sub districts to warn motorists where violations occur. Traffic Safety Week July 1 7 was proclaimed by Governor George N Craig and 140 Indiana mayors.
Mr and Mrs Bayard Baker and Miss Irene Stewart of Indianapolis depart Saturday for Stuttgart Arkansas. They will join two sisters of Miss Stewart and begin a three weeks journey in Colorado as part of a Western trip.
Miss Reta Stanley stayed overnight with the Stovers in Shirley on Tuesday. Rev and Mrs Dean McCoy were guests of Mrs Grace Porter Wednesday evening. Mrs Mary Newman and Dr Harry Boyle of Lansing Illinois called on the Terhunes Tuesday afternoon. Several families hosted Sunday visitors including the Flicks and related households from Holton Versailles Pendleton Indianapolis and more. Owens Gray and family entertained, and travel included a California departure by Mr and Mrs Owen Gray and son Joel.
In a league game Charlottesville fell 7 to 4 to the local high school team at Charlottesville Tuesday night. Earlier, Carthage High and junior high squads posted a 10-9 win over New Salem, with Carthage’s Carthage scoring the final runs in the last inning as New Salem pitchers walked six straight batters. McClurg led the high school offense with a double and a home run driving in four. Charles Orahood named Wilkinson School principal succeeding Charles Morris. Orahood has prior coaching and principal experience in nearby schools. He and his wife Dorothy will move to Wilkinson.
Mrs. Carl Carson Jr hosted a Sunday birthday dinner for Mr. Carson with guests including Mr. and Mrs. Carl Carson Sr Mrs. Joyce Rhoades and son Larry and the Russell Siler and Dulake families. Separate visits include Mrs. Maria Gray and Mrs. Floyd Gray of Marion dining with Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Gray in Charlottesville and Mrs. Noah Brooks with Mrs. Markes McClurg shopping in Indianapolis. Little Madeline Stephens of Indianapolis visits grandfather C. H. Nixon. Royce Joseph and son Mike visited Floyd Bledsoe in Dugger Last week. Susan Lloyd and Houston visitor J Spencer Lloyd join Winfield family in Madison County.
Miss Marlene Sandefur and Miss Marlene Magee, daughters of local residents, attend Girls State at Indiana University this week. They were sponsored by the Carthage American Legion Auxiliary and the Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority. Mrs. Bertha Beck serves as Girls State counselor for forty girls.
Mrs Myrtle Henley departed Friday by air for Chicago and Tuesday flew from Chicago to Los Angeles for a two weeks visit with Mrs Fred Phelps.
Walnut Ridge Missionary Meeting plans a Friday July 6 meeting at Walnut Ridge Friends church with a pitch in supper. A man on the mission fields will sell the meal. Sunday guests included Mrs. Uarriette MecClarnon and family and Mrs. Anna Troy at Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rhodes home near Mays.
Joel son of Whittier California, was a dinner guest of Mr and Mrs Hubert Hunt and their daughter Pamela on Tuesday evening.
