The Ripley Township Conservation club sponsors ccoon dog field trials Sunday July 12 three miles northwest of Carthage and two miles south of Charlottesville at the John White farm. Purse is 200 dollars with 2 dollar entry fee. Prizes include 30 for first tree and first line, 20 for second tree and line, plus heat money. Admission is 25 cents for men. women and children free. Lunch served. no drugs on grounds.

Carthage Merchants Plan July 4 Holiday Closures

Local Carthage merchants will observe the July 4 holiday with many stores closing all day Saturday while groceries close at noon. The Carthage Radio and Appliance Shop, Carthage Hardware and the bank will stay closed all day. filling stations are expected to stay open. All places will operate Friday night.

Auto License Plates Half Price Sale Scheduled

Indiana license plates will go on sale at half price on July 1 after a court ruling revived the old date. The 1941 act that moved the date to August 1 was ruled unconstitutional by the state Supreme Court, restoring the traditional schedule.

A card of races is scheduled next Saturday night July 4 featuring star pilots of the Consolidated Speedways Assn including Kip Young Huston Bundy Everett Rice Lucky Parnell and Bob Breading. A field of 40 cars is signed for the big July 4 celebration race with aerial bombs used to salute the armed forces.

Selective Service officials report 322 young men ages 18 to 20 registered in Rush County during the fifth draft sign up held Tuesday only Rushville hosted the registration. Of the total 26 registered men reside in other counties.
