Knightstown Driver Escapes Injury In Auto Mishap
Harvey Haynes of Knightstown narrowly avoided serious injury when his car sideswiped another vehicle on the Knightstown pike near John Gates farm. The crash felled a power pole and transformer, causing a Carthage blackout. Bowden occupants uninjured. Haynes jailed for reckless driving after pleading guilty and could not pay a 25 dollar fine, facing 30 days behind bars.

OPA beef price ceiling order unsettles cattle market
Indiana Farm Bureau official H L Royce says the OPA order shifting beef price calculations to a grade basis may cut prices about 75 cents per hundredweight for choice steers and 25 cents for common grades. He urges orderly marketing and notes pasture cattle are largely unaffected while demand may widen for lower grades.

Apprehend Two Bicycle Thieves
Two youths aged 16 from the Indiana Soldiers' and Sailors' Children's Home stole bicycles of Harold Ruby and Gerald Stewart. They were captured while attempting to flee town with the bikes and held by Marshal McCorkle in Rushville after fleeing toward Indianapolis.

Car Thief Cecil Butler Arrested in Lexington
Cecil Butler of Vanceburg Kentucky was arrested in Lexington on car theft charges. He allegedly stole Wilbur Gatewood’s automobile on the night of September 12 and the car has not been recovered.

Moore boy undergoes nose operation at Methodist Hospital
Elvet Moore, son of Mr. and Mrs. Parvel Moore, underwent a nose operation Monday at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He is reported to be getting along well and expected to be returned home in the near future.

Death Comes To Mrs. Thompson in Walnut Ridge
Myrtle B. Thompson born November 19 1880 near Western Grove died July 2 1942 in Walnut Ridge after life in Duluth Minnesota. Survived by husband Paul N P Thompson two sisters and one brother. Funeral service held at Walnut Ridge with ministers and music by Chappell sisters. Burial in family lot at Walnut Ridge.

Indiana state gross income tax returns for income April 1 to June 30 are due by July 15 with delinquency penalties for debts over $10. New rates effective Jan 1 lower retail and service taxes while wholesale and advertising remain charged at 1 percent. Exemptions of 250 per quarter and 750 for retail merchants apply. Local Woman Hurt In Crash
Mrs Ida Small of this place suffered facial injuries with forty two stitches after a collision at Cornell and 8th streets in Indianapolis. Also injured were Mrs F M Miller of Indianapolis and Mrs C N Willson of Indianapolis. All were taken to Methodist hospital for treatment.

Former Carthage Resident Honored With Divinity Degree
Rev. O Herschel Folger, a Carthage High School class of 1908 graduate, received the Doctor of Divinity honor at Whittier College commencement in California held June 13. He is pastor of First Friends church in Whittier and was lauded for interdenominational and interracial work and teaching at Quaker schools.
