Carthage students tour Lilly plant and hospital

Juniors from Carthage High School toured the Eli Lilly plant and the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis after a rainy bus trip from Carthage. Guides escorted two groups through pill making and hospital exhibits, followed by a vote favoring a movie and radio segment before a swift return home. Judges listed. Prize winners for local contests noted.

Ripley Township Community Institute Sees Civic Topics Talked

Neighbors Gather Corn At Reddick Farm

On Wednesday last week a group of neighbors visited Noah Reddick’s home and butchered. The following Friday thirty four neighbors gathered seven acres of corn in about ninety minutes in Reddick’s field. Reddick has been seriously ill about two weeks. Funeral of Mrs. Lewis Jordan at Wesleyan Church

Funeral services were held Monday at 10 o clock for Mrs. Lewis Jordan who died Saturday morning at age 34 after acute indigestion. She is survived by her husband five children and both parents with six brothers and three sisters. Interment followed at the town cemetery. Rev Smithee and Rev Schoofield led the service. Mrs Jordan hailed from Kentucky and moved to this community years ago.

Acetylene inventor Augustine Davis dies at 82

Augustine Davis, born Elkader Iowa, developed the acetylene lighting generator in Chicago in 1896. He organized Gatesville Independent, published several newspapers, aided Dakota territory division, and helped form the Davis Acetylene company. His winter home was Coral Gables Florida.

Death of Mrs Myra McCullough

Mrs Myra McCullough an elderly respected colored woman wife of Henry McCullough died Thursday morning after a long illness from a nervous breakdown. Born in Dublin Indiana daughter of Henderson and Elizabeth Burney she married Henry McCullough on March 12 1914. Active in church and evangelistic work she is survived by her husband a step son Frank a brother Frank Burney and a sister Hannah Jones. Verne Plummer Undergoes Gall Stone Operation

Verne Plummer was taken to Methodist Hospital a week ago Sunday and underwent gall stone surgery on Wednesday. He survived the serious operation and is reported doing as well as expected. Also noted are rapid improvements for Miss Maxine Ewing and Mrs. John White after recent surgeries.
