Mr and Mrs Robert White and their daughter Melinda came home last Tuesday after an eight day trip to Florida They visited Cypress Gardens Silver Springs and spent time with Mr and Mrs Billy Watkins who are wintering in Vero Beach Florida
Robert C. West age 19 a Carthage butcher and Bonnie Jones age 19 a Carthage resident obtained a marriage license in Carthage. The couple’s details include ages and hometowns as listed on the filing.
Funeral services were held Monday at Flanner Buchanan Mortuary Broad Ripple Indianapolis for Harry Johnson of 6149 Rosalyn Indianapolis formerly of this vicinity. Attending from this community were Mrs. Oliver Earnest Henry Nelson and the Nelson families of Carthage and near Arlington.
Mrs. Russell Shutt and nephew Raymond Mann of Morristown travel with Mrs. Roy Miller and four Indianapolis children to Starke Florida to visit Mrs. Shutt’s daughter Mrs. Richard Beise and family before returning home last week.

Knightstown Indiana police annual report shows 554 total arrests across 32 offenses in 1960. Public intoxication accounted for 162 arrests, reckless driving 99, burglary 10, and assault and battery 19. Juvenile violations totaled five. Marshal Arnold Butler attributed low juvenile trouble to the year.
Dr. H. L. Hensler attended the 77th Annual Convention of the Indiana Veterinary Medical Association held Tuesday through Thursday at the Severin Hotel in Indianapolis this week.
The Lions Club announces its annual broom sale project will begin soon as volunteers prepare for the community fundraiser. Proceeds support local service programs and charitable activities across the town.
Rural Route resident Worth Pitts underwent surgery last Friday at Rush Memorial Hospital. Laura Sandefur was admitted to Hancock County Hospital Monday and had surgery Wednesday. Room 103. Guy Ewing had major surgery Friday at Rush Memorial Hospital. Ed Ruby of R. A. 2 entered Jackson Nursing Home at Rushville. Mrs. John Porter and Mrs. H. J. Dobson remain in their homes or nursing homes, with Dobson at Myers Nursing Home in Washington, Indiana.
Rushville Indiana trustees offered three year contracts to Harold M. Dick superintendent and Benjamin B. Earley high school principal. Terms not disclosed. Contracts would start August 1 and replace current agreements.
Donald M. Hopkins has been elected president of the Knightstown Chamber of Commerce for 1961. Other new officers include G. M. Schatzlein as vice president W. H. Brown as secretary Robert L. Myers as treasurer and D. L. Snow and George McClarnon as directors.
Mrs Maxine Riggs entertained Monday evening with a birthday supper for her son in law Kenneth Gabbard. Guests included Mrs Gabbard, Mr and Mrs Eugene Reddick and daughter and Russell Reddick.

A 1960 Purdue University graduate she majored in French and English and has worked as a secretary at Barnes Hospital Clinic in St. Louis where she lives with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Max Newby.
Fayette Central, a newcomer to the Raider schedule, edged Carthage 47 to 45 on a corner banked shot with three seconds left. Carthage led 12-8, 21-16, 30-28 and 41-37 before Fayette Central pressured back. The B team won 43-13.

Forty seven Rush County farmers and 4H members will receive medals or certificates for Gold Medal Livestock projects in 1960. Gold Medal Calf Club winners include Larry Angle and others. Silver and Bronze medals awarded to numerous individuals and farms. Swine Testing and Lamb Club honors also listed with multiple gold silver and bronze recipients. Certificates issued in Hoosier Swine Testing and Purebred Lamb Club events.
Mr and Mrs Carroll Hall of Carthage announce the birth of a son at Hancock Memorial Hospital Greenfield last Thursday. The new baby adds joy to the family with the parents confirming the birth.
Miss Dorthy Edwards and Mr and Mrs Fletcher Edwards visited Mrs May Wright Sunday. Becky Clark and Joan Jeffries of Indianapolis were weekend guests of Miss Jo Gray at the Paul Gray home. They joined Mr and Mrs Charles Holliday for Karen Ann Holliday's fifth birthday.
The Carthage Lions Club held its January 9 1961 dinner meeting at the Community Center with fifteen members present. Hubert Hunt presided as president and John Rhoades read the secretary's report. Guy Ewing won the attendance prize and Fred Magee led group singing. Members split into two groups for a spelling bee. The next meeting is January 18 and will involve attendance at the New Salem Club.
The Stockholders of the State Bank of Carthage met to elect the 1961 directors Howard E. Henley Ross J. Tweedy Fred W. Parish William H. Dixon Lillian R. Coleman Hugh Weber and Donald Staten Sr. The January directors meeting then elected Henley as President and Trust Officer Tweedy as Vice President Dixon as Cashier and Assistant Trust Officer Winfield as Assistant Cashier Weber as Assistant Cashier. Employees include Jessie Barry and Marrietta May as bookkeepers.
Indiana State Senator Richard Newhouse of Morristown, representing Shelby Rush and Fayette counties, was named to four standing Senate committees by president pro tem S Hugh Dillin. Newhouse joins Agriculture, County and Township, Judiciary, Roads panels as Democrats hold Senate control with GOP dominance in the House.

Deeds filed total 2 392 550 with city lots 1 295 300 and rural 1 097 250 and 503 deeds in all.
The first Fox Drive of the year is set for Saturday January 14 in the area. Ripley Township Conservation Club sponsors the event and participants should meet at the Community Center at 9 a.m. A free lunch will be served at noon.
