Mrs. Albert Ray and her sons Lynn and Dwayne of Carthage traveled by jet from Los Angeles to Indianapolis in four hours after a sixteen day stay in California. They visited Owen Gray and Mrs. Gray in Joel near Orange, witnessed the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, and spent time at Knott Berry Farm Escando Garden and Marine Land. They fished at Big Bear Lake and dined with Mr. and Mrs. John Short at Costa Mesa.

Rush County Commissioners Reorganize for New Year
Rush County Board of Commissioners held their January meeting in the court house and reorganized. John E. Meek was chosen chairman while Dallas Hardwick swore in the board for the year along with Robert L. May and Clarence W. Newhouse. The group met with Superintendent Allen Wall of the County Home and received an excellent report and discussed this year’s program. Mrs. Alice Long 38, of Greenfield R. R. 4, died at Hancock County hospital after months of illness. She gave birth to a baby boy Friday night, then was taken to the hospital. Born in Carthage, daughter of John and Kinman Gates, she attended Indiana University and worked as a research chemist for Eli Lilly for over ten years. C Jack Clarkson named chairman and Mrs Betty Smith of Milroy named vice chairman at a special meeting of Rush County Republican precinct committees in the circuit court room.
