Mr and Mrs Robert Dale of Lawrence announce the birth of a daughter Debra Lynn on December 17 1964 weighing 7 lb 6 oz. She is the granddaughter of Mrs Alma Foust formerly of Carthage. Band Booster supper for seniors rescheduled to Thursday January 7 at 6 30 p.m. at the Community Center with a covered dish urged.
Morris E. Deal, 41, pleaded guilty in Greenfield City Court to cashing fraudulent checks totaling 425 dollars. Judge Henry Hammer imposed a six month suspended sentence with restitution to Greenfield Banking Co. within 99 days after Deal admitted he had about 20 dollars on deposit at the time of the November 14 incidents.
Carthage Chapter No 574 O E S officers were entertained by Edna N Kennedy and Ralph Truitt at the Kennedy home Sunday evening. After supper, games followed and each officer received a gift from the Worthy Matron and Patron. Attending were Hazel Alexander Rachel King Grace Pitts Lavada Wilson Ellen Hudson Ann Parish Lettie May Betty Brooks Laura Scott Sue Ann Land Bertha Ronan Raymond Kennedy Judy and Lynn Kennedy and Mrs Lena Newsom.
The Carthage American Legion Post and Auxiliary Unit prepared and distributed seventeen Cheer baskets for Christmas last Wednesday afternoon December 23. This annual project has run for several years.
A watch night service is planned for New Year’s Eve from 10 30 p m to midnight at Walnut Ridge Fields Church. The program features special music and is open to all parishioners and neighbors.
The local post office will close all day Friday January 1 1965 for the New Year holiday with no mail in or out. Normal service resumes Saturday January 2 1965 and the business window opens until noon. Postmaster Alexander and staff thank the community for mailing early this year during Christmas.
Mrs Charles Blankenship and Mrs Maude Barbour will host the Christian Women Fellowship gathering at the church on Thursday January 7 at 2 pm.
Christmas Eve guests included Mr and Mrs Arthur White entertaining relatives and friends from Carthage Pendleton Rushville Mays Anderson Knightstown and Rushville for a dinner and gift exchange with multiple Moore and Harrelson families and others.
Entertaining at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Brown were Mr. and Mrs. James Terhune and daughter Betsy of Bloomington, Mr. and Mrs. Loren White of Greenfield, and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Terhune and family. Fort Wayne visitors included Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Fraze and family. Ed Brown and sons of Fort Wayne joined weekend guests. Mike and Bob Brown and Ruth Fraze stayed through New Year’s Day.
Senior students in government class pledge aims for the new year including better grades, attendance, and behavior. Several entries promise less disruption, study harder, and to avoid trouble, with varied personal hopes like avoiding distractions and pursuing future plans.
Fred Brooks of Carthage was taken to Hillside Haven Nursing Home in Rushville on Sunday for admitted care and observation.
Clarence Dyer of Center Township topped the Rush County 5 Acre Corn Yield Contest with 173.3 bushels per acre among 135 contestants. Edward Meyer of Noble Township was runner up at 162.9 bu/acre. Mark Kinder led the Junior Contest with 154.2 bu/acre. The average yield among contestants was 126.6 bu, down from 1963. Township-by-township results show Union, Jackson, Noble, Center, Washington, Ripley, Richland, Walker, Rushville, and Glennie Mann among top producers with rainfall data noted. (Continued on Page 4).
Indiana University selects 531 collegians for the 1964 65 Student Foundation to promote Little 500 Weekend. The event funds scholarships since 1951 and features a 50 mile bicycle race a coed miniature tricycle race a Variety Show and a Golf Jamboree. The Rush County group includes Carthage Dave Ruby Milroy Linda Boring Rice Mary Beth Mattox Bill Green and Joel Montgomery.
John David Porter 82 of Carthage died 9 30 p m Thursday after two years failing health. Retired Container Corp. worker of 24 years and Carthage Friends Church member. Surviving: wife Hattie McClurg Porter, two sons Joseph Elmer and Herman, brother Thurman, sister Minta Wells, six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral Sunday Hampton Mortuary with Rev. Frank Guyatt officiating. Burial Town Cemetery.
Miss Rhonda Reddick daughter of Mr and Mrs Gene Reddick was admitted to Community Hospital in Indianapolis Sunday and underwent surgery Tuesday after a brief stay.
Guests at the Kennerly residence included Mr and Mrs Gil bert Riggs of Shirley Mr and Mrs John Gray and family of Wilkinson and Mr and Mrs Gene Ashby and family of Markleville. Afternoon visitors were Mr and Mrs Richard Riggs and children Randy and Cheryl of Anderson. They also visited Mr and Mrs Sam Troy at Wilkinson Sunday evening.
Saturday dinner and afternoon guests of Mrs. Ruby Eoff and daughter Jennifer included Mr. and Mrs. Sam Corn of Rushville, Mr. and Mrs. William Bonigar of Spiceland, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Ebb and family of Anderson, Larry Crim of Greenfield, Leslie Kidwell and Harold Ad of Charlottesville, and Jim Stevend of Carthage.
Mrs Forrest Mareall and Steve were in Indianapolis on Monday for undisclosed visits or activities. The brief note records their presence in the city without detailing purpose or accompanying events.
Mrs. Forrest Beck will host the Carthage Legion Auxiliary gathering Monday evening near the Community Center. Attendees will include local members and community supporters as plans are outlined for upcoming activities.
The Woman's Society of Christian Service of the Methodist Church will meet Wednesday January 6 at 1 30 p m at the church. Hostesses are Mesdames Marvin Johnson Hubert Hunt and Mable Manche. Lesson led by Mrs Roscoe Brown.
A revival begins Sunday at the Carthage Church of the Nazarene with evangelist Rev. Franklin M. Moore and nightly special music. Services start at 7 30 p m led by local pastor Rev. Luther Williams and run Sunday January 3 through Sunday January 10.
A Christmas pitch in dinner and gift exchange was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Spence in Carthage to honor Mrs Anna Spence of Fitch Kentucky visiting with her daughters and sons over the holiday. Fifty two attendees included extended family from Carthage and Richmond plus guests Anthony Fouts of Greenfield. Pictures were taken and a social time enjoyed by all.
Carthage second string edged Spiceland reserves 48 42 on Tuesday night led by Edwards 10 Lafuse 8 and Hunt 7. Carthage kept a slim lead at every break 10-9 21-20 and 35-33 as Spiceland trailed throughout.
