Carthage Man Fined for Fraudulent Check Case in Greenfield

Morris E. Deal, 41, pleaded guilty in Greenfield City Court to cashing fraudulent checks totaling 425 dollars. Judge Henry Hammer imposed a six month suspended sentence with restitution to Greenfield Banking Co. within 99 days after Deal admitted he had about 20 dollars on deposit at the time of the November 14 incidents.

Cheer Baskets Given By Carthage Legion Post

The Carthage American Legion Post and Auxiliary Unit prepared and distributed seventeen Cheer baskets for Christmas last Wednesday afternoon December 23. This annual project has run for several years.

Post Office Closure For New Year Holiday

The local post office will close all day Friday January 1 1965 for the New Year holiday with no mail in or out. Normal service resumes Saturday January 2 1965 and the business window opens until noon. Postmaster Alexander and staff thank the community for mailing early this year during Christmas.

Clarence Dyer Wins 9 Acre Rush County Corn Contest

Clarence Dyer of Center Township topped the Rush County 5 Acre Corn Yield Contest with 173.3 bushels per acre among 135 contestants. Edward Meyer of Noble Township was runner up at 162.9 bu/acre. Mark Kinder led the Junior Contest with 154.2 bu/acre. The average yield among contestants was 126.6 bu, down from 1963. Township-by-township results show Union, Jackson, Noble, Center, Washington, Ripley, Richland, Walker, Rushville, and Glennie Mann among top producers with rainfall data noted. Five Rush County students named to IU Student Foundation

Indiana University selects 531 collegians for the 1964 65 Student Foundation to promote Little 500 Weekend.
