Hospital Visits and Recoveries Across Knightstown Area

On the Beat reports several local medical updates. Wilbur Jackson underwent major surgery December 17 at Henry County Hospital. Mrs. Floyd Reddick and Mrs. Jesse Pitts are at Rush Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Eugene Reddick convalesces at Larue Carter in Indianapolis. A. J. Carr has returned home from Rush Memorial Hospital. James Geise is convalescing from a heart attack. John Porter is seriously ill at Rush Memorial Hospital.

Post Office To Close Christmas Day 1964

The local post office will be closed all day on Friday December 25 1964 for Christmas. On Saturday December 26 1964 regular service is suspended with no window service or general delivery. Incoming mail will be distributed to lock boxes and rural routes will deliver as usual. Outgoing mail will be postmarked and dispatched as usual.

Former Walnut Ridge Neighbor Visits California for Great-Grandson

Mrs. Florence Parker now of West Chester Pennsylvania traveled to California to visit her son John and grandson George Parker. George Parker recently became a great grandfather with a son born on November 28. The George Parkers spent months in the Peace Corps in Lima Peru and other South American countries. John and Betty Parker returned from a six week European trip covering thirteen countries.

Christmas Music Department Program At Local School

A large crowd attended the annual program held in the school gym last Friday night. All grades from junior high to high school performed with the pageant of the birth of Jesus, the high school chorus candlelight singing, and the high school concert band. In charge were instructors Mrs Sue Ann Land and Mr Robert Edwards.

Couple visits Ludlow Falls Christmas light display

Mr and Mrs Russell Nigh and Miss Ruth White traveled to Ludlow Falls Ohio to view the 8000 light display on the falls with nativity scenes recorded music and decorated trees. They also called on Rev and Mrs Gene Lewis and family who serve as pastor at Ludlow Falls formerly at Walnut Ridge Friends Church.

Anniversary Celebrations Highlight Carthage Residents

A surprise party honored the 25th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Davis of Carthage R.2, with gifts and a reception at the West home. Also, Mr. and Mrs. Quinton Petry marked 23 years since December 20, 1941. A separate dinner party in Carthage brought together Carthage Post Office staff and spouses at the Durbin Hotel with euchre afterward.

Maynors return home as new station is planned

Mr and Mrs Harry Maynor return to Anderson for residence. Mr Maynor has run the Sinclair Station at Carthage for twenty two months and will manage a large filling station at aoeean starting January 5.

Addie Sattler Dies Tuesday

Mrs. Addie C. Sattler, 85, died at home north of Carthage after two years of ill health and a July fall that broke her hip. Born August 13, 1879 in Center township, she married Phillip Sattler in 1909 and is survived by his presence, a brother Floyd Reddick, three nieces, and a nephew. Funeral at St. Rose of Lima Knightstown at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial in Riverside Cemetery Carthage.

Funeral services for Mrs. C. H. Gobert in Indianapolis

Funeral services for Mrs. C. H. Gobert, 81, of Indianapolis, were held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Funeral Home in Indianapolis. She is survived by a daughter, one grandson, a brother Forrest Beck of Carthage, and a half-brother and half-sister. Burial followed at Coatsville.

Helen Magruder and Ben Magruder from Mississippi plan Christmas with Overman family. Wingate residents Stuart McKnight to visit Overman parents. Jessie McGeorge hosted dinner with Gilbert Dickson and family and James Hill and son from Rushville.

Members of the Carthage Lions Club distributed many potted poinsettias to the shut ins of Ripley Monday evening as an annual club project.

Rites Held For Phoebe Draper

Mrs. Phoebe Ann Smith Draper 79 former Manilla and Arlington resident died in the McGraw Nursing Home fire at Fountaintown. She had lived in Arlington 30 years and Manilla seven before moving to nursing care six years ago. Born June 4 1885 in Kennard she married Waldo Draper in 1926. he died in 1962. Survivors include four sons Joseph Chapman Harry Chapman Herbert Chapman Harold Draper a daughter Eva Tweedy fourteen grandchildren twenty eight great grandchildren one great great grandchild a brother Harry Smith four stepchildren and three step grandchildren. Services were conducted by Rev Norman Peer at Hampton Mortuary Carthage with burial in Arlington East Hill Cemetery.

Nine Liberty players scored with Cummings netting 20 to top the list while Grizzell and Porter each had 15 for the Raiders. Liberty outrebounded 47 to 31 and held Carthage to 22 percent shooting.
