Carthage Grain Co invites farmers and friends to a two day Farmers Days event at their elevator business on February 28 and 29. The celebration marks the companys 25th anniversary with welcomes from Lee Gene Fred and Audrey.
Announcement from Washington shows the Agriculture Department will provide planning assistance for a 120000 acre Upper Big Blue River watershed in Rush and Henry counties. Approval came via telegram from Senators Hartke and Bayh. State agency approval and local sponsorship are required before technical help is granted. Hearings were held months earlier.
Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Schneider of Carthage are named to membership in the American Hereford Association based in Kansas City. In January 148 Hereford breeders were added to the roster. The association serves more than 60 000 breeders nationwide and recorded 513 076 purebred calves in the last fiscal year, with the year's total the fifth highest on record.
The Carthage Band Boosters announce a March meeting on Tuesday night the 3rd at 7 30 p m in the school band room. All members and supporters are urged to attend.
Clarence Henley Tubby convalesces at his Carthage home. Mr. and Mrs. David Ray remain about the same. Mrs. Chester Kennerly returns home from St. John’s Hospital Anderson after tests and x rays. Mrs Grace Gurley recovering at Rush Memorial Hospital after leg amputation surgery. Mrs. Winifred Gray remains convalescing in Carthage. Robert Moore remains at Rush Memorial Hospital for tests and treatment.
Charles W. McMichael 80 a retired well driller died at Rush Memorial Hospital after a year of ill health. He lived at 524 West Ninth Rushville and spent most of his life in Henderson community before moving to Rushville four years ago. Surviving are his widow Mae B. Haywood McMichael four children two brothers a sister five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Also notes 1963 self employment tax reminder for farmers.
The Carthage Raiders beat the New Salem Eagles 60 to 57 to close their 1963-64 schedule. Kit Porter led with 27 points. Grizzell Linville and Donnie Jarman added strong totals as Carthage overcame a 39-22 halftime deficit and a star absence. The B team won 44-43 in overtime.
George D. Edington 72 a retired sawmill worker and World War I veteran died at Indianapolis Veterans Hospital. He moved from Carthage to Laurel about 30 years ago and is survived by six daughters four sons a brother and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Services were held at Hampton Mortuary Carthage with burial in Town Cemetery.
The Carthage High School announces 4th Six Weeks honor roll with AB and BB grades across grades 8 to 12 noting some absences may affect final marks. Majorettes and drum major tryouts set for March 3 with bands, color guard, and drill team plans. National Merit Test details and two Carthage students winning regional speech contests are reported along with tuberculosis education and school cafeteria menus for March.
Approximately ninety guests gathered at the Carthage Community Center for a Band Boosters Awards Night honoring band members and seniors. Four teen seniors received awards as Rev. Robert Kendall gave thanks for the supper and Mrs. Dale May announced results.
The annual Lincoln Day banquet gathered a large crowd Tuesday at 6 30 p m in the Durbin Hotel Rushville. Former senator Homer Capehart delivered the address and Twelve Girls of Rushville High School provided vocal entertainment. Attendees from the Carthage area included Mr and Mrs John White Mr and Mrs Richard Harrold Mr and Mrs Robert McKain Mary Joseph and Bill Gatewood Mr and Mrs Howard Linville Mr and Mrs Edgar Ellis Jr Bever Donald Stoten Jr Donald Stoten Sr Foster Wilson and Wayne Draper. Mrs Esta Fenner visited Indianapolis guests Monday.

Bids were opened Tuesday afternoon at the Carthage town hall for a new sewer system and a disposal plant. Five firms bid on the sewer work and three on the disposal plant. Government funding will cover half the contract price if bids are accepted. Final tabulation may take weeks as engineers evaluate alternates and prepare recommendations for town officials. Kenneth Earnest, attorney for the town, noted preliminary steps tie to revenue bonds and matching federal funds.

New Salem Eagles defeated Arlington 77 60 to reach the next round as they led 31 30 at halftime and pulled away in the second half. Doug Linville scored 28 points after an early foul trouble, Al Kramer added 27, and Arlington top scorer 21.
The Indiana State Department announced the Rush County two unit reorganization plan was approved and will go to voters in the May primary. The eastern unit will be Rushville Consolidated Schools serving Rushville City and Townships plus Washington Union Noble and Richland. The western district forms West Rush County Schools.
