Cliff Aker 18 of Carthage escaped injury when his 1054 model car struck a utility pole on a county road near the Jackson school at 11 p.m. Aker said his basketball jacket fell from the seat and he reached for it. Pole damage valued at $175, pole owner R E M C.
The Carthage Radio Shop and Joyce's Fashion Shop sponsor a paint demonstration with a color film and a style show featuring the latest fashions. The event is next Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Community Center and includes music entertainment and door prizes.
Carthage youth Dale May travels to Cincinnati Ohio this week for training at the Williamson Furnace Company facility to gain skills.
Verle Foster, longtime basketball coach at Morton Memorial since 1960, today announced he will re sign as coach and remain at Morton as a teacher and in other coaching duties.
Amos Rogers remains in serious condition at Jackson Nursing Home Rushville. Fred McManus convalesces at his Carthage home. Grace Gurley moved from Rush Memorial Hospital to Jackson Nursing Home on Wednesday. Glenn Magee convalesces at Maine Magee's home in Carthage after leg amputation. Robert Moore remains stable at Rush Memorial Hospital. He returned from Robert Long Hospital last Thursday.
The sixth annual Flower and Patio Show begins Saturday in the Manufacturers Building at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. The event runs 10 days through March 15 and features 19 gardens, 200 booths, spring fashions, prize trips, and expert guidance from The Star and local associations.
Rushville defeats New Salem 72 to 54 to win the sectional title as Linville leads New Salem with a tournament record of 101 points. Rushville led 16 9 at the first break, 32 29 at half, and 55 42 after three, with Mosley and Mohr scoring 22 and 21 for the champions.
The Carthage Raiders fell 77 to 69 to New Salem in the Rushville sectional semi final. New Salem sprinted out with a 20 point first quarter as Linville sparked a record breaking second period with six field goals while Donnie Jarman and Al Kramer added three apiece to push a 42 33 halftime lead.
Carthage Better Business Association held its monthly luncheon at the J and E Cafe. Joyce Harrold led the meeting with minutes and treasurer Bob Winters reporting. Dues are due. An Easter drawing offers three hams and three picnic hams on March 28, plus an egg hunt at member business places for children under ten with prizes for marked eggs. Time to be announced.
Carthage High School star Larry Jordan, four year forward and center for the Carthage Raiders, set the Rush County scoring mark with 1,512 points in 87 games from 195? to 19?. He led the team in rebounds at times and averaged 17.6 points per game. The Raiders edged New Salem in the sectional as Jordan played sparingly due to bursitis forces. He plans to attend Ball State in September.
Mr and Mrs Richard A Gorman of Flemingsburg Kentucky welcomed a son Robert Allen born February 15 1964 at St Clair Hospital Morehead Kentucky Mrs Gorman is the former Rose Whitfield of Carthage
The Carthage Grain Company marked its 25th anniversary and retirement of owner Lee Silver who spent most of the 25 years as the firm's helm. The business began in 1939 as a Hogle Ronan partnership and endured a 1946 fire before rebuilding. Silver joined in 1941 and purchased the half-interest in 1958.
The Wo man’s Literary Circle of Carthage marked its 70th anniversary with a March luncheon at the Durbin Hotel in Rushville. Thirty-nine attendees, including honorary members, heard a program tracing the group’s history from its 1894 founding by 33 women.
Ripley Township Farm Bureau hosts a members only fish fry on Monday March 16 at 6 30 p m in the Community Center with fish by the Carthage Lions Club. Rush County REMC will present the program after the meal. Reservations due by March 12 to Kenneth Land or Roy Stanley 565 3975 565 4101.
